This may be an unusual way to approach a review, but I hate reading reviews from people who watched 2 episodes out of 24 for example so this is something you can enjoy afterwards.
I thought alot about the story of this anime and wanted to share it with the community so here is my review:
I think it was pretty brave of Jonah to oppose Coco when she revealed her real intentions, but just like Coco said: killing her could not stop Jormungand and of course it is not about killing her, but her idea.
As you may know; the most resilient parasite is an idea planted in the unconscious mind. Just think about it, Coco believes she can come up with a solution to a problem that mankind could never solve up to this day. Her solution is made out of despair, she can’t accept the world as is.
She’s naive and arrogant to think she is superior to the rest of the world because she holds the power of some piece of technology that may give her the edge over her opponents, but in the end it is nothing more than an act born out of despair, making her a real villain.
She’s as powerless as everyone else but she believes she can achieve peace in her own way. It seems like her mind is corrupted by Jormungand's power.
Don’t get me wrong, I just don’t think it is the right way to use Jormungand; not that I presume I could do better – this is nothing a single person should ever be able to decide.
She can't bring peace with her approach – as her brother said, people like him will always find ways to sell weapons and as long as such people walk the earth there will never be peace.
It may be true that you can’t achieve great things without a sacrifice, but it should be clear at last after talking with her brother that she won’t make the earth a better place by doing this…
Even if the people can’t fly because of Jormungand – they would just wage war with ships like in the past – there is no need for computers on a vessel, it is able to transport simple weapons and soldiers. She can't stop the power of nations, even if she may have the edge with superior technology for the moment.
I’m just sad that Jonah gave in at the end and seems to accept the fate of the mentioned ~700.000 innocent people. It is like he didn’t even try to think about it, trying to occupy his mind with what he can do.
Of course he was to young to understand but within his heart he knew that Coco was terrible mistaken when he pointed his gun against her.
Coco would never get away with this and she would have to hide in a hole for the rest of her life if she wanted to survive long enough to see the results of her mistake; doesn't it just sound like another terrorist?
The only thing that could be stopped by Jormungand may be a nuclear holocaust, but that won’t stop millions of people from dying anyway.
As mentioned by Coco - I think it is nothing new that in the near future the cause for war will be water…
Well I’m looking forward to see how this is turning out.
I'm sure there will be a third season and at last this anime kept me thinking and entertained about it's plot the whole time, really enjoyable.
Compared to other animes the story was very serious and of course the artwork, music, action and characters are outstanding too.
