This series seemed ugly the first time I came across it, but after watching it on Sci Fi Channel, I instantly fell in love with it.
STORY: The main plot, the one involving the lunar prison, comes into effect in the first five minutes - not in the first twenty minutes like every other anime out there.
ART: Crazy style that reminds me of FLCL. Sharp colors and psychedelic designs build up the DL universe, from the simple-drawn streets of Tokyo to the "chewed-up" persona of the moon where DL is located.
SOUND: Clear sound that gets all the sound through the speakers to your noiseholes.
CHARACTER DESIGN: To go with the psychedelic art, you need hallucogenic character designs. About every design in DL is crazy, from Retro's TV head to the awkward features of the inmates. The only "normal" character designs are Pandy's, as well as the faceless pedestrians in the opening sequence, and the security of DL.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: Amnesiac first-time meeting to semi-romantic relations build across the movie.
MUSIC: Technofunk, technorock, and the occasional opera tune fill this series with the drug-induced music that will make you wonder if you're high or the movie is high itself.
FANSERVICE: Not much fanservice, save the straightjacket sex and Galactica's mild nudity.
WATCHABILITY: It'll blow your mind like FLCL. The mind blowing will force you to sit down and watch the rest.
PROMOTION: SciFi didn't actually promote it. But the trailers are good enough to pass as trailers.
OTHER:If you're watching Sci Fi October 26, 2008, stay after Gurren Lagann for the awesomeness that is this movie.
OVERALL: What anime should feel like on acid. 10/10 with extra points for colorful action galore! read more

This series seemed insane once I first came across it. But I soon got indulged in the craziness which would soon become the awesome.
STORY: The story is confusing at first, but watching it through a lot more will get you to greater understanding.
ART: Sketchy art, with colors most likely describing Naota's current feelings. Cool yellow, dark blue-grey, and dusty brown. Sounds like an amazement-devoid emotional hole to me.
SOUND: Sound effects and voice acting make the plot stand out harder.
CHARACTER DESIGN: Sketchy-looking eyes, postmodernistic noses and mouths, and eyebrows. Made of pure awesome.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: Naota's maturity stays steady, as his understanding of the world around him that is happening becomes much clearer. Mamimi's feelings towards Naota's brother decline as she realizes he may never be coming back. Other character's character may either be not changing or changing without us even knowing.
MUSIC: The pillows are the best band to ever exist in the world of punk-alternative. Their coltribution to FLCL is beyond expectations.
FANSERVICE: Known as "women" in my review of Puni Puni Poemi. Fanservice i this series is heavy, with panty shots, mild nude scenes, and the perverted character builds of Gaku and Kamon.
WATCHABILITY: Your mind will tell you to stay still once you see the crazy kind of excitement before you.
PROMOTION: Adult Swim did a good job with promotion. It got good ratings the first time around, and they instantly fell in love with it, airing it whenever they have time sometimes.
OTHER: The eyebrows, man.
OVERALL: An excellent series for anyone begging to be sucked into the awesome before them. 10/10. read more

First off, I came across the series back when I used to scout animes I watched. I finally came to watching it. It was good. Once I saw it in FULL CONTEXT, it was better than I could ever imagine. So I will rate this series by 10 points.
STORY: The series follows the pattern of a normal magical girl series: Main character has a miserable life, comes across tragedy, finds transformation device, and becomes magical girl, with identity known to not many people. This series improves on the storyline by making more people respect the main character (with the character's best friend getting an overdose on respect), but sort of declines once you get to the idea that the main character is repeatedly f*cked by the talent agency. Overall, the story is very good.
ART: The backgrounds combines city and country into how I would picture Fukuoka. The art is shiny and magnificent, while sometimes, the art just disappears, making the room disappear all of a sudden. Outstanding, no?
SOUND: Clear sound. Makes you really get an earful of the full volume treatment. I would call the sound outstanding, but I'll rate it great, since Poemi's fast-paced talking makes the sound seem a little distorted.
CHARACTER DESIGN: Varing body shapes, artistic shading, and moe eyes? The character design is awesome all the way! OUTSTANDING!
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: Simply put, character develops slow to none in this series. But screw development, the descriptions are good enough! But backgrounds are pretty bleak, like how Futaba exactly became prototype lesbian. I know it's supposed to be funny, but I just don't care.
MUSIC: A lot of the music comes from Excel Saga. Others are written by Yumiko Kobayashi. One even bacame prototype for a Naruto track. AWESOME!
WOMEN: A lot of the female characters are either cute or sexy, and that's really awesome that Ishino made the characters designed like that! But I could live my life without Shii continually groping herself.
WATCHABILITY: If you've seen Excel Saga, you'd get a lot of the jokes. But watching enough magical girl/hentai series would get you to understanding the jokes a lot clearer. But seriously. This series is watchable if you try. You might have second thoughts once hearing Poemi's voice, but the jokes will keep you glued to your seat.
PROMOTION: This got me to thinking about watching the series once I saw the English trailer. After seeing a lot of scenes cut out, I watched the original trailer. I respected the series more after that.
OTHER: Could really work on [as] if they had the right to air it. Or Excel Saga. That way, more of the jokes could be clearer. (BTW, [as] is Adult Swim).
but when I first saw images for the series, I thought the series was different, and made my own version with about most of the Aasu sisters replaced. I even went as far as to give Poemi fake parents (with KumiKumi in prison and Nabeshin the first villian, leading to a Star Wars V-esque reveal), make Futaba a magical girl herself, and imagine the series on FOX with none of the ADV VAs. I even thought Nabeshin was working for ACROSS! Good thing I scrapped thatidea before my brain overdosed on my own brew of awesome.
OVERALL: Awesome. Best magical girl series ever. 9/10. read more

The series was funny. There were some episodes I found funny (episode 10 is the winner), and some I found too cruel towards Sagara (episode 1a). But overall, I think the series is funny. Here are my only complaints:
1. Why does everybody threaten to kill Sagara? I mean they never do. They just tie him up/beat him real badly. But at the frame at the end which proclaims that the series is complete, these students aren't bared with fists. They have bats with nails, a chainsaw, a knife, a cheese grater, an ax, a spear, a wrench, a forck & knife, a scalpel, and other deadly weapons. Which leaves me with this: where do half-naked students get this kind of stuff, and does Sagara survive? I think he does (possible thanks to MITHRIL), but if this takes place AFTER Second Raid, he's as good as dead. Which makes me think that the good people at Mithril are the only good guys (Sagara, Kurz, Melissa, Tessa, Kalinin, Mardukas), and the Jindai High School students are b*tches/assh*les. Which is why I despise Kaname, no matter how kickass she is.
2. What is the deal with the police woman who goes to great lengths of PMS-style anger when the name "Sosuke Sagara" is mentioned? Someone needs to put her in a mental institution.
And finally...
3. If I was in this series, I'd kick all the Jindai High School students' asses (except Kyoko, Shinji, Ren, and the Student Council president, since they're the only ones even remotely nice to Sagara). That includes kicking the band members in the beanbags, kicking Tsubaki out a window, and locking Kaname in a cage, forcing her to swallow the key.
THAT's how much Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu! p*sses me off. I prefer original FMP!, thank you very much. read more
