My anime origin... it all started in my pre-teens, I found out the shows I used to and was currently watching on TV, at the time, (shows such as Pokemon, DBZ, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Escaflowne to name a few) were not American made but were Japanese made and was called ANIME! At that time, I was really against sub-anime because I had to read while watching a show so I stuck to dub. In the next couple of years as I “matured” I discovered that Japan launched new anime 4 times a year. My thought then was, I didn't want to wait for these shows to get dubbed plus I'll just get used to it, so I sucked it up and switched over to sub and never looked back.
My manga origin... I started reading manga because of 5 reasons
1 It was similar to comics, had great story, characters, different drawing styles, came out on a monthly basis except for a few, like Berserk RIP Kentaro Miura, and so much material to read and catch up on.
2 Shonens I’m interested in but could never catch up, I could by reading.
3 Some anime are made when a manga is still ongoing and I just know that next season is never coming so I pick it up.
4 Adaptations sometimes butcher the source material, I’d go to forums and see what the fanbase's thoughts are and see where it messed up. If the genre was changed from what the manga was originally, the plot getting rushed or "key" components were taken out, that’s when I’ll decide whether to pick it up or not.
5 I just like reading in general. :)
