I'm a 24 year old girl who loves anime =). I got my B.A. in Mathematics from CSUF in Spring 2006 and I'm currently getting just got my teaching credential there. I'm currently teaching there over the summer for a program funded by CSUF, and I'm going to be teaching high school math in the fall (^_^)b
P.S. 4 out of every 3 students don't understand ratios. <--think about that :-D
Anyways, here's a pic of me if you're curious ;-) [warning: I tend to grin like an idiot in my pictures XD]
Ever since the writer's strike, I've pretty much abandonded regular TV and pretty much only watch anime and cable tv, with Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy being the only regular shows I watch on a regular basis. I used to be pretty big on Brazilian soap operas, but they stopped getting dubbed on Telemundo and I've pretty much stopped watching telenovelas. I'd watch non-Brazilian novelas, but they tend to have bad acting and they recycle the same tired themes over and over again
(i.e. poor girl meets rich dude who hates her but is forced to marry her because she ends up inheritting his money, then he genuinely falls in love with her while she gets amnesia/gets paralyzed/realizes he is her brother...)
This clip is why Brazilian soaps rock:
"O Clone" Episode 198 - dubbed in Spanish (skip to 3:10 for the good parts)
Now tell me that that scene didn't start up the waterworks? Poor Said!
I'm a big movie buff, I used to go to the movies a lot until tickets prices got to be $10 each, which is way too expensive in my opinion. Nowadays, I usually wait until the movie is on DVD and buy it or I wait a couple of months before it hits the discount cinema and I only have to pay $2 to watch it on the big screen ;-)
I like pretty much all types of movies, but I have to say that my preference is comedy. I love spoofs, the best one being Space Balls in my opinion (may the Schwartz be with you!). Here's a list of some of my favorite movies, in no particular order:
La Misma Luna (Under the Same Moon)
The Negotiator
Kill Bill
Meet the Parents
Shrek (Spanish version > English, trust me ^_^)
The Joy Luck Club
Austin Powers
Pulp Fiction
The Sixth Sense
The Green Mile
American Pie
Stardust
Fight Club
There's Something About Mary
Ocean's Eleven
The Fifth Element
50 First Dates
The Departed
The Prestige
What Dreams May Come
Silence of the Lambs
The Notebook
The Village
Hotel Rwanda
Robin Hood: Men in Tights
The Princess Bride
Office Space
Goodfellas
Se7en
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
La Ley de Herodes (Herod's Law)
Volver (To Return)
Amores Perros (Love's a B*tch)
Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (Amélie)
La Vita è Bella (Life is Beautiful)
As far as music goes, I fail as an anime enthusiast because the only time I hear j-pop is when it's included in the anime I'm watching. Don't know why I haven't gotten into j-pop, considering I'm fairly open to listening to music in other languages, such as Portuguese, Turkish, and Swedish. I'm mostly into rock (60's - present), alternative, punk, new wave, hip hop, and R&B in English, while I listen to pop, rock, cumbias, boleros, and reggaeton in Spanish. My iTunes library is too eclectic to put into words, any random selection of songs will definitely not match up, hehe ;-)
Considering the span of music and television that I watch, I have become fairly good at picking up languages. I grew up speaking Spanish, but forgot most of it as soon as I started school in English, and relearned it during high school. It was around this time that I started watching telenovelas to pique my interest in learning Spanish.
As an unintended consequence, I realized my love for Brazilian soap operas and started hunting down clips and episode summaries in Portuguese on the internet. As a result, I can understand about 90% of written Portuguese, but only about 50% of spoken Portuguese. (I'd probably understand more if I was used to the accent.) Surprisingly, I used to understand a lot more Portuguese when I was younger, since I had Portuguese neighbors from the Azores who didn't speak English.
Since it is so similar to Spanish, I can also understand Italian pretty well if it's written, only so-so if it's spoken slowly. Other languages I can pick out words here and there are Tagalog, Romanian, and French, but not nearly enough to understand what is going on. I can get the gist of about 1/3 of a raw anime in Japanese if it has simple vocabulary since I've picked up a lot of key words in the 2 years I've been watching anime, but I can't read hiragana, katakana, or kanji at all.

Leave me anything you want to post on my fridge in my comments and I'll see if I can add it ^_^
Oh yea, and this would soooooo go on my fridge if it weren't for the fact that the details would get lost, so it gets it's own special spot ^_~
much love goes to ABM for making my banner ^_^
I never thought I'd say this, but I don't accept (completely) random friend invites. Make sure you leave me a comment or that I've seen you frequently on a thread I lurk on before inviting me, or YOU WILL BE DENIED.
I've been busy with some things I had to take care of. But its nice to know that you missed me such much. Going home every night crying into your pillow becuase I'm not around XD... Just kidding :P
First reaction: Attention whore.
Second reaction: I am a winner.
Afterthought: Lol @ her calling me a bitch this one time.
Final word: Sup everyone reading this comment now.
Orbi-san!!!!! You still haven't given me a list of stuff to grab. There's so much to watch and listen to. Oh and ummmmm it's freezing here, zac is a yeti! But It's great for sleeping.
Get yo mature 24 year old sexy Mexican ass up and apologize to me for my point like I humbly apologized for your point.
& If you're going to tell me that there was no point to apologize for, maybe I should take out that "mature" part. The first part of being mature is putting yourself in the other person's shoes, sexybitchio.
Now, lets change the subject and talk about how sexy we are.
All Im saying is I feel like Im being discriminated against or shunned when you say you are undecided, you're accepted whey can't I be accepted? It hurts and you can't tell me it's our fault for loving people,Im not trying to force you to choose, sorry for making my comments forceful, I just find this all a bit of ignorance. I could add more about what I think of your "middle" stance, but it's none of my business, it's a waste of time, I luv you, and I realize what your saying is partially true. (Not that you're not doing anything wrong either or anything..)
But whatever, it sucks more when you're on the fence than if you were to oppose it.. imo. Anyway, I respect your opinion either way.. Once you fucking make one.
You can't fucking not do either.. It's black and white, you either support it or you don't. If you don't know whether to support it or not, that's fine. I'll redirect you to my last comment, there is no reason not to support it, and you, I KNOW, have common sense to know this. If you don't support homosexuals then why support yourself (heterosexuals)? They are THE SAME, Im not sure if you realize this or not.
Ever heard "love is love"? Hero, I demand you stop being "on the fence" or give me one reason not to support it. like.what.the.fuck. Por favor y gracias.
Hey, did you know you can be straight and support homosexuals? Wow, someone can be rational and moral enough to be straight and still support? Who knew.
I mean, it's not like it's any different from heterosexuals, so who could be stupid enough to be against it then? Yeah, I know, crazy, right?
I think your 24 year old self is smart enough to know all this, but Im just reminding you.
