There is nothing quite like sitting down to a nice down-to-earth anime. Sometimes those are are hard to find, yet here we are with Rec. It is the story about a guy and girl living under the same roof. Seems kind of cliche, until it actually gives a legit reason: her house burned down (sorry I saw the title and the burning house and immediately thought of mix tapes, I'm so ashamed). I know the length of the episodes seems intimidating, but it was not bad at all. I applaud the series for actually giving us something to enjoy while putting it in half the ... time frame of most other series. Now, lets dig into this...

Story-7
Short, yet effective, those are the best words to summarize this. We have our guy, Matsumaru, waiting outside a movie theater. Why, you may ask? He got dumped. By a woman whom most viewers will probably dislike. He then meets a 20 year old girl named Ako, and will precede to find solace in getting plastered with her. They will then walk home and everything will be over. Or so they thought. Sucks when your house burns down. So that's how we come to them living together. He works for a candy company and comes up with ideas for them to use. She is a novice voice actress. Throughout this series they have to deal with success while also balancing the feelings they start to have for each other. That's it. It's a nice, simple story to unwind to after a stressful day. It is not a bad story riddled by plot holes, nor is it an absolute masterpiece. It is just a refreshing look into the real world of business.

Art- 7
The art is average. It is along the same lines as the story, refreshing, yet not stunning. It uses mildly dull colors so it's not going to vomit rainbows in your face. The leading girl looks quite cute, and this series emphasized that. The guy was pretty standard for an anime protagonist. Overall I gave the art a decent score because I thought the art was fitting to what the series was aiming for.

Sound- 6
The weakest aspect. Not much to say here. There was no op or ed. You have background music and sound effects when the title roles on screen. Although those could be humorous at times. Really there was nothing bad about any of it as far as I could tell. It did what it had to do and didn't leap over mountains to give us auditory pleasure.

Character- 9
This I thought was great. For such a short series they really managed to capture the people we really care about. The male protagonist is just a man trying to rise up in the business world. The leading heroine is just a female voice actress trying to accomplish her dream. Throughout this series we get to see them both succeed and fail, and what it does to them afterward. We have all had times where we failed at something and took it out on others, that's where our male protagonist has trouble. We have all had moments where we had to do things we didn't want to do for our benefit, and that's where our heroine had trouble. It was pleasing to see such relatable problems on anime characters, and the series did a great job at portraying them. The rest of the characters are there to act as foils for the relationship of the two. We have Ako's manager who is strict, yet understanding. We have Matsumaru's co-worker who tries to cheer him up and let us know he is not a complete loner at work. And we have the woman who stood him up, who acts as an inciter of jealousy in Ako. In the end, she helps us realize the depth to which Ako cares for Matsumaru. Only problem I have is that Ako is all touchy-feely with Matsumaru in the beginning but then flat out denies they're together for most of the series. We know better, right?

Enjoyment-9
A fantastic little series I thought. I happen to love romance anime and this is one that would be a disappointment to miss. I enjoyed the down to earth setting, story, and characters. They were a good break from witches, warlocks, super power lolies, and everything else anime sometimes throws at us.

Overall-8
A cute little series. If you are into romance with the occasional hint of comedy and drama, this is one anime you will most certainly not regret.

Alright so this is my first review guys, I'll give it my best shot. Yosuga no Sora seems to have two very different views. There are some who find the underlying themes in this series to be quite thought-provoking while others just drop it after seeing how sexual this anime can get. It has sex scenes, lots of them (the most I've seen in an anime). It is not hentai, but it is as close as you can get without having that label slapped onto it. Be prepared for this. If you can't handle it, this might not be the anime for you. The series ... is in omnibus format. For those who don't know, this means that each heroine has an "arc". This means that each one will have 2-3 episodes dedicated to them, with the others acting as supporting characters. After each arc the universe will "reset". This means that its as if the other arcs didn't happen. You're starting off with a clean slate. Now, I'll try to keep this short and sweet...

Story-7
I thought the story was good. It was nice and simple without being too cliche. Two twins cope with their new lives as they move to the country. I will consider each arc as a separate story. Each of the heroines have a problem of some sort that needs to be solved, which is resolved in 2-3 episodes by our protagonist, Haruka. It's pretty straightforward, except for the final heroine, his own sister. This was easily the most intense of the stories as it dealt with the most controversial aspect of this series: incest. There were a few moments that left me gasping. Easily bumping this score from a 6 to a 7. Its worth looking forward to.

Art-8
The art was solid. The backgrounds were colorful when they needed to be and dark when they needed to be. They seemed to be on par with some of the best animations out there. The characters were also drawn very well, possibly even more stunning then the backgrounds. It is made very clear that Haruka is the pretty boy. Only nit picking thing I have here is that the models are kind of cliche. This is not the first time I see a rich girl with long, black hair or a class president with glasses and braided twin tails. Looks good though.

Sound-7
The sound held its own. I thought overall it was very good at conveying the atmosphere. Only problems I had were repetitive tracks and the ed. The tracks were good, but they lacked variation. I started to get sick of the track that depicted a tense atmosphere when a good chunk of the latter half of this anime was tense. The ed was good but... out of place. It is very light and peppy which totally contradicted the end of a lot of the episodes (this is a pretty dreary series at times). If they had changed the ed and thrown in some extra tracks I could have given this an 8.

Character-5
The weakest part of the anime in my opinion. Was it bad for what they had to go with? Most certainly not. However, I would like to judge this series as a whole. Each character had two opportunities to stand out. The first few introductory episodes and the arcs. In one heroine's arc, we wouldn't see any characterization for anyone but Haruka and that heroine. With two episodes for each girl I didn't really get a good grasp of their character, with the exception of Sora (Haruka's sister). It's not that they did this poorly, but it's effectiveness took an extreme hit from the constraint of 12 episodes. Trying to do 4 heroines in that amount of time cuts down on each one. This could have been remedied by having a 24 episodes anime but unfortunately that is not the case. It also made the heroines feel kind of loose on their morals when they are willing to have sex with Haruka after 40 minutes of screen time. But bare in mind this was compressed quite a bit. Most likely much more happened between each of them that wasn't included.

Enjoyment-6
I'm in the middle on this. Did I enjoy the sex scenes? Not really. They were a bit too intense for my liking. Did they have a purpose? Yes. They were there to basically score the winning goal in the game that was that heroine's story. You knew they were together from that point on (in that universe). It's not there JUST for kinky pleasure (although I do believe that had some impact). The themes are quite deep in this anime. This takes incest to a level not many anime will do. It also incorporates themes of teenage romance, betrayal, and friendship. It is not at all a shallow anime. That part I picked up on and enjoyed quite a bit.

Overall-7
This anime is not for those who can't stand sexual content. It's there. But this anime is not for those who want to watch a hentai either. The story and themes are far too fleshed out to be a simple hentai (plus it's not a hentai, it's hardcore ecchi). If you can get through the sex scenes, you will find a very profound story that focuses on many deep and sometimes taboo aspects of life.
