Hi! I started watching anime in spring 2014 with Kill la Kill and I started watching seasonals in summer 2015. My tastes are broad so I watch a bit of everything except overtly sexual content. I'm also picky with what isekais I watch given the repetitiveness of the genre.
I watch anime for the characters so even if the story is good, if I don't care about the cast it won't be as impactful to me.
Friend requests are welcome as long as you talk to me afterwards!
I can also speak French since it's my native language.

Extended Character Favorites

There are so many characters that I love that they don't all fit in my favorites list! Here are some that barely missed the cut, most of the time because I have a one-per-franchise restriction.

Anime that deserve a better rating!

I watch a lot and sometimes I stumble upon series that I think deserve more love. Here are some of them! I only picked series rated less than 7.2 and avoided franchises as much as possible.

Extended Anime Favorites

Given how many anime I've watched, 10 spots isn't enough to cover all my favorites so these are some of the ones that didn't fit.

Oh didn't know you watched OreGairu. Anyway, happy new years. Seems we're out of common topics for the time being.

Tastes vary and just like you said you don't watch ecchi shows just for the ecchi aspect, I've done the inverse of it as well. Akira essentially isn't remembered for its story but for a watershed moment where japanese animation industry came into global spotlight and I personally didn't enjoy the story either. The visuals and designs were superb though. I would try to defend shinsekai yori but it's been a long time I've seen it and I don't recall plot specifics. If I had read the manga as well, I might've remembered more stuff especially the last arc I guess. Then again, I don't bother with fighting over anime especially after I took part in defending OreGairu and watching its fandom turn into toxic waifu wars. So I've left that, I watch my things and enjoy silently. If I come across people who've watched something niche and enjoyed it, I'll talk to them.

What's this licence thingy? And nah, it wasn't sarcasm. There was a time when I racked 23 seasonal anime in my watching list. Every day it felt like doing a homework and so I stopped doing that. I tend to pick up moe and slice of life more favourably than some title that's critically acclaimed. For example, hourou musuko or shinsekai yori, I had these two on my mind for so long and even downloaded them but I never felt the need to watch them over relaxing moe shit. I did watch them in the end and they live up to their reputation.

Living the chill work life and demanding more? wow, I can't wrap my head around that. No worries, people forget to bother with their third language anyway. I had a regional one and I only learnt it to get my grades up. The better and expensive schools here offer french, german and other european languages too but my school was a small community centric one so we didn't have too many choices to pick from. Are you going to do masters as well?

yeah your list does scream of quality over quantity.

Ahh I see but isn't having big working hours bad anyway? Like, people doing white collar jobs in india always want less working hours. So your university is mostly arts and commerce related. Are there lots of french people who speak spanish or it's your own personal choice? Whenever I think about phonetics, I always remember videos from Dogen who makes stuff about japanese phonetics and correct pronunciation.

If it's a public university I guess it's to be expected? All public universities that are govt. sponsored in here are old buildings especially arts related ones. Some of them are magnificent especially IITs. Anyway, doesn't matter. Is your course lengthy? I love how flexible course selection is in european countries.

I'll get to Kill la Kill someday. I just wait for seasonals to end and then start watching them, while I'm done with seasonals new ones or something college related work comes along and I can't finish titles that I really want to watch.

A university student would have proper english however his accent obviously would be indian since he's from here. But as long as he's speaking proper english I don't mind it. The problem starts when they butcher the language. Oh well you can find lots of hilarious stuff on subreddits like /r/indianpeoplefacebook or similar pages. My college is mostly indians studying the same old engineering crap (including me) so I wonder how a huge university with different students from various countries feels like. What do you study? I read that you got into anime after watching kill la kill, didn't the nudity shun you away from anime instead?

Wow that's interesting to know. France is similar to Japan in that aspect then I guess. Probably better than japan but yeah people in there are pretty bad with english in general. You're aware of bad "indian english" memes and accent I suppose? While being taught english as their first language, no one really uses it in their daily life. Local languages always take a priority and english goes in the backseat. So yeah, if one/one's parents didn't bother to provide a strong base for learning it, they remain bad at it. I picked english mostly from games and books, technological advancement in my family was pretty slow. I remember getting a PC when I was higher middle school. Kids nowadays are acquainted with technology around them. At least the european education system is better than most places. People from india always pining to do their masters in Germany. Oh we also had dubbed kids anime back in the days, I always wondered where these came from before knowing about "anime"

I only know about Viz media who licenses manga and translates it into english. Didn't know there were french licensed versions too, I guess it depends on popularity. I doubt there's a demand for hindi at all since most indians are taught english as their first language. I bought few stuff in japanese to support the mangaka directly.
Iizy Dec 27, 2019 5:22 AM
yep I get what you're saying, you have to bear import taxes and costs to buy manga in here as well. On the plus side european currencies are way stronger than japanese yen so it kind of balances out?
Iizy Dec 26, 2019 12:46 PM
Oh you're in the legal watcher and reader category? I'll be more careful treading on those lines. Reddit isn't even the correct place to gauge the popularity of a series. The scanlations for Oofuri are pretty slow, it had an update after 3 years so yeah I don't have much hope for it.
Iizy Dec 26, 2019 10:13 AM
Merry christmas to you as well. I like how meticulously everything is graded, I always look at my list and feel how unorderly it is. I don't bother to read the "rating scale" on any profiles I go upon. I noticed that you even have a descriptive anime list. In any case, I don't think oofuri will get a third season. Such niche series always go unnoticed, I mean people will always call it shounen ai and stay away from it. Frankly, there might be some undertones but the story is so good and gripping that I remember I watched 5 episodes back to back.
Iizy Dec 25, 2019 11:50 AM
You have Mihashi and Abe from Oofuri in your favs. That's pretty cool.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
