About Mylene
Anime is one of my top three hobbies, tennis and reading being the other two. I'll generally try just about any anime (unless it's 300 episodes long and the premise doesn't interest me), but I prefer those that are targeted at girls and women, as I can generally relate better to the characters.

Roots really isn't as good as SIGN so far. It may get better, and I'm hoping it does, but right now I'm just watching it for the sake of watching a .hack series.

Events are really dragged out, even more so than in SIGN, but mostly I just can't get into the characters. Except Tabby -- she's kinda like Mimiru in a cutesy catgirl way. She's simple, but there's too much conspiracy surrounding the others. And the lead it too... "emo." I guess that's the right word for him, though I don't really like using it.

Well so far I personally haven't really seen all that many problems with it, but then again I've still got a whole 6 episodes left so I guess we'll see whether or not I still like it as much by then, I don't know. ^_^' I know I had similar problems with Evangelion you seemed to have with Lain, but I don't know, Lain just seems to pull it of much better. So I guess if anything, it's at least better then Eva. :P

Yeah, that's definitely the way I'm taking it right now, I'd much rather spend what time I do have on series I haven't seen than ones I have. Though I've kind of lessened the amount of stuff I'm watching right now. Of course some of the spring season shows are already over but I've pretty much put everything else from the season on hold except for Kaiba and Chiko, naturally those being my top 2 favorites from the season and all. ;) So following those 2 plus Lain and Kino's Journey, and somewhat trying to follow Niea_7 at my own pace are pretty much all I'm watching right now, anime wise anyways (well, not counting what's on TV and what JG is sending me via mail anyways ^_^' )

As for Lain, actually, to be quite honest a few years ago I would have agreed with you, but over the last few years I swear I've really grown to love series like this. I think it's kind of an acquired taste though. I remember when I first saw the first 2 episodes of Paranoia Agent and I hadn't ever seen anything like it before. I don't think I was ready for a series like that. ^_^'

Oh yeah, I'm just eating this series up. I have a feeling I may very well replace Ghost Hound with this in my top 25. In fact Ghost Hound is looking very inferior at this point.... ^_^'

I'm really glad we're taking it as slowly as we are though, because there's a lot to take in and think about, and to discuss as well. In fact I think if we were to watch this all at once I think I'd be totally lost right now..... I actually think I kind of learned this lesson the hard way though, because our latest batch of 3 episodes I decided to watch all in one night and I swear my head was just throbbing afterwords.

But yeah, if you ever find the time it'd be great to have you with us in that thread. :D

Ah, hey, good to see another familiar face from over on ANN. ;) Thanks for friending me. :)

Hi, thanks for the friend request. Caught me off guard there, I wasn't expecting anybody to send a request.

I think that the humour in SuperS is probably the best achieved in the franchise thus far. The villains are especially amusing, I love how they interact, bicker and even question the Big Boss.
I wish I had seen this when I was a kid, I had an absurd My Little Pony obsession and I would have loved a pretty pegasus with a unicorn in the Sailor Moon universe. Oh and I read at ANN that you're getting the remastered SKU release, I can hardly wait to get it myself.

Nocturnal | 06-18-08, 6:18 PM
I'm watching SuperS for the first time, it's very fun despite the Chibiusa focus. Speaking of which, whenever she uses that Twinkle thing of hers I am reminded of Nanami's Cowbell. I keep expecting Chibiusa to morph into a cow right before my eyes, a pink cow of all things. I am finally done with a massive essay so I can relax with some Sailor Moon fluff. Also, I am truly looking forward to Stars. From what I've heard it might be one of the best seasons in the franchise.

Ha, ha, thanks ^^ Hope you find something good on my list!

Heh, always great to find people who actually care. <3

maarika | 03-18-08, 8:15 AM
Episode two was great, I wasn't expecting that at all when I had seen the first one. Oh, then does it mean you could watch the episodes in any order? Also, what about the movies (the prequel and another on)? Have you see those yet?

maarika | 03-17-08, 11:01 PM
I watched the first episode, I don't really know what it's going to be about (besides travelling) but it looks quite promising. Plus, it seems cute in a Haibane Renmei way which is always a good thing!

ANN-abunai | 02-21-08, 6:39 AM
You've probably come across some of the discussions on ANN about the trust heuristics that are applied to weight the rankings there.
Dan has never been exactly clear about how they work (keeping his cards close to his body), but I would imagine that higher trust is the result of a more normal-distribution-type set of rankings, instead of the "newbie" tendency to mark everyhting either "Masterpiece" or "Worst Ever".
If your rankings on ANN are lower than here, then you've probably got a fairly high trustworthiness index.

(About not being easily impressed, and rating anime statistically lower than average)
Hmm. I agree, you're even more jaded and negative than me. :-)

I would say that perhaps the tendency to rate everything highly is not necessarily a trait of beginning anime viewers. That may be an incorrect stereotype, fostered by the more trained viewers' need for superiority.

More probably, anime fans fall into the same spectrum of mental maturity that the rest of society does, and (keeping, for a moment, to stereotypes) many of them are seriously immature. The more mature you are, the more balanced your evaluations would be.

Thinking of it this way, your lower scores may be a sign that you are more mature than me; or a sign that you have seen some real stinkers that I have avoided; or even a sign that you have fallen into a sort of negative-immature pattern, where you rate everything too negatively.

I'd bet on the maturity thing, though. I'm having a hard time getting past a mental age of five. :-)
