About Morphious_XXX4
I first got into anime the summer after 5th grade when I was at my cousin's. He had VHSes of the first season of Pokemon & the first VHS of Gundam Wing. I then found the awesomeness of Toonami, and began to watch Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, & Inu Yasha. In 6th grade, a friend brought an Animerica magazine to school and I learned about the .Hack//Sign series and manga. Shortly afterwards, I began reading Tokyo Mew Mew published by TOKYOPOP and soon learned about the magazine Shonen Jump from a 7th grader. Through him, I started to read Naruto.

Ironically, I learned about BL (boys love) manga from a 6th grader when I was in 7th grade. I was introduced to Gravitation and greatly disliked it lol. I couldn't stand the art style as it seemed sloppy to me or the sub par storyline. Strangely enough, I decided to give BL another try and was enchanted by Only the Ring Finger Knows. The following summer, my next door neighbor helped me get more acclimated to the BL scene. Although, I really didn't start to dive into the genre until high school. This was mostly because I only had the limited resources of my local library at hand.

During the last two years of high school I went to a boarding academy that had internet, something I was sorely lacking at home. Through my Vietnamese friend, I quickly discovered the genius of scanalation websites. It was like an endless library of manga had opened before me. I devoured tons of manga, two of the most memorable being Death Note and Skip Beat. Then, I made another friend my senior year who was into BL too. It was the beginning of a beautiful partnership of recommendation and info swapping. By the time my first year of college began, I was in the thick of BL territory.

Adventuring more into the realm of fanfiction, I soon had a hankering for slash too, and started to build a base of favorite pairings. The higher speeds of internet at college, also helped me to start exploring more subbed anime sites. Within a short amount of time I had ventured into some of the darker sections of the BL world. It didn't take me much longer to begin having very specific standards for my reading and/or watching material. However, I was still curious enough to try a seemingly wild recommendation or two, since I liked to stay on top of what was new in J-pop culture.

Going to Sakura-con every year since 2005, helped me to stay abreast of most J-pop news, as well as, making it to a couple of Kumori-cons & Aki-cons. And, finding this site through some college buddies was serendipitous. Now days, anime & manga make it so quickly online, that I just go with the flow of recommendations from similarly interested friends or whatever piques my interest at conventions. It seems like my to watch & read lists get a bit longer every time I turn around. Additionally, it probably doesn't help that I'm more preoccupied by fanfiction and the movie theater these days.

I've developed quite the love for reading people's various interpretations of characters, relationships, and events. AUs and time-travel fics often turn out the most interesting. It's also, so very easy to get lost in all the wonderful slash pairings out there as original fiction tends to be very narrow-minded in the sexual preferences of characters and their chosen relationships. Indeed, I find reading about straight universes just as frustrating as gay universes. Variety is the spice of life and creativity. Thus, it'd be nice to see a wider variation of sexuality in published fiction.

In closing, I hope you find my favorite lists useful, as well as, my anime & manga track lists. As for updates, I'll probably only be seen on here sporadically, and shortly after conventions conclude. I tend to use other sites more for networking, mostly Facebook. Even on, I use the site more for reading other author's work than anything else. Although, in future, I may expand my internet presence as bit. If/when I do, I'll update this section. Until then, happy J-pop culture hunting. Our sub-culture is slowly, but surely becoming more mainstream one friend at a time.
