Hello!
My name is Rachel
My tastes in manga/anime pretty much include everything. (Though I'm not too big a fan of Shonen romance comedies) But of all the different genres, my favorites are any old Shojo titles (80's or earlier). Pretty much anything from the fabulous 49'ers (Keiko Takemiya, Moto Haigo, to name a few) I love.
I'm somewhat shy, so I usually don't post or leave random message a whole lot. Although I'm introverted, feel free to contact me or leave me a message, I enjoy meeting new people.
@Profile Picture: I usually update every so often with pictures from non-anime related things I become obsessed about.(They're usually somewhat or another connected to anime/manga anyway, XD) Often times they come with interested stories about how I stumbled across the series.
Um... yeah, my current profile picture...... is.... um...... Lol, all I have to say is that Iggy invaded Cosco's vital regions. (Don't worry we didn't get kicked out, but the manager asked us why we were taking pictures of her vegtables though, XDD)
Past Profile Pictures
The Little Prince - Originally I came across a video of the japanese opening to the anime on Youtube. I didn't know what it was but I was so struck by it that I told my friends about it. Turns out, they were reading the original book that it was based upon in French class. I read the original book myself and my life was forever changed.
The Dog of Flanders - The recommendation of the World Masterpiece Theatre series made me check out the original book it was based on. Turns out my library had a copy of it, so I went to go check it out. Turns out, the only copy the county had was in Reserve, and I didn't have time to read it all there. The librarian obtained a copy for me in another library on the other side of the state. When I got the book it was an interesting sight. The copy had been published in ~1954 and there was still the library card in the back of the book, before computer catalogs. The book itself was an antique.
The picture is of Gwendolyn and Oswald from Odin Sphere a ps2 game I just recently bought. (At the time of the profile pic) It's EXTREMELY fun, and one of the best games I've played in a LONG time. I highly suggest it to anyone who likes RPG's with good plots. There isn't really a story behind me finding this game, I recommended my brother getting it at christmas because I had heard good things about it, and ended up buying it myself.
The picture is of an interpretation of Han Christian Anderson's The Snow Queen. It's my favorite fairy tale of all time (next to Anderson's own the Red Shoes). It was actually written for adults, but is not graphic in nature, it's a growing up story to be exact. There was an anime made of it, but I haven't seen much of it. Rather I've seen the BBC and Hallmark movies based on the tale. (Both of which were lacking in different areas) But the best way to experience this wonderful tale is to just read the original. It's amazing.
I currently have a webcomic running called The Biological Rangers at: http://biologicalrangers.webs.com/
I don't update it regularly (about every other week) but I hope you enjoy it!
Disney always adapts the stories in a different way. Sometimes VERY different.
I read the Hunchback of Notre Dame from Victor Hugo (I'm not sure if this is the english title of the book?) and then I saw the adaptation and I was like: What's this?O.o This has nearly no connection to the real story.
And it's the same with the Pocahontas story.
Anyway it's for children so they can't let the blood flow as much as in the books.:P At least the music is really good! I soo love the Disney cartoons music!^^
Aaaah the Snow Queen!!!
I recently finished reading a book called the Fairy Tales of Hsóans Andersen!!! I read it in english and it was really good. Most of the stories I thinka re not for children but for adults even if there are lots of his works that become popular most of them are changed and is different from the original story.
My all time fav is The Little Mermaid, but I like the Brave Tin Soldier, The Little Match Seller and I don't remember the title but the story when the girl's lover was beheaded and her brother took the head into the pot and a flower bloomed from it. I know it's a bit morbid but I liked the story because the girl really loved the guy that deeply!
I would like to inform you that the reading time of Maya's Funeral Procession has started, and the discussion thread is open. You can reach it here: Discuss

hey :)
found your profile trough the Year 24 Group club! I was wondering if you could recomand me some older shoujo titles? I've only seen and read a few but they all struck me!
thanks so much for joining again :)
The club doesn't have many members right now so I really really appreciate it and I know you've read a lot of manga so if you want anyone added to the relations just leave a message on the thread k? :)
Anyways, I was wondering if you would you be interested in becoming an admin for HGM? Chichiri and I are sometimes busy (that's why there are gaps/delays with some of the updates) so we'd like to have some extra help - well as back-up anyways. Like to just keep the club organized and under control. Or to just reply to members' needs/requests, etc. It's ok if you're not interested.
And well, you don't need to have any graphics expertise (unless you're interested in that kind of stuff). soaring_wings has already been made an admin but with Chichiri having more work hours lately, I don't wanna continue to push the entire burden on her, that's why we're looking for an additional admin = )
