I am what's known as a 'hardcore anime/manga fan', with no particular preference towards any genre. But I guess I enjoy the romance stories with a little something extra to them. Like mechs.
Hey! Your Full Metal Panic light novel review got me interested in reading the novels since I've seen the show. I was wondering where did you read the books? I live in the states and I've only seen the first three books in used book stores, I was wondering where did you get the others?
Heh, So, I've finally come back to this site after nearly a year of hiatus due to my final year of college being busy as hell (well, technically its not the final year, but its my last year of classes, as my entire next year will be work training through medical site rotations).
My life has pretty much been occupied by studies, so I'm no longer a huge animation buff like I used to be, however yes, I do still watch anime in my spare time. I've been WAY behind on any modern series, though. The most "recent" anime that I watched were Madoka Magica and Kids on the Slope, which are each well over a year old already, so as you can see, I haven't had much time on my hands. That'll change in less than 2 weeks, though, after I make it through my finals.
PS: To clarify about my preference for Gundam SEED, the other ones I've watched so far were Gundam Wing and Gundam 00 (both seasons). I've also started watching Mobile Fighter G Gundam, but did not finish it. I don't know how it compares against the other ones, but among these it was my favorite by far, and the only one I would recommend.
In return, here are my recommendations from the list of anime that I have watched and that you haven't (since you've already watched pretty much all of my favorites):
- Space Brothers - Probably my biggest surprise of 2012 and the show I'm enjoying the most from all ongoing ones.
- Crest of the Stars (and sequels) - A really interesting mix of space and fantasy. Has a lot of romance too. Don't know what to compare it to, but kinda makes me think of LotGH combined with fantasy elements.
- Major (and sequels) - I've watched most sport anime out there, and Major is pretty much the only one that can stand side by side with Hajime no Ippo (excluding most Adachi series such as Cross Game or Touch because they are a lot more about the characters and the drama than the sports).
- Fantastic Children - Starts a bit slow, but the story is really good and worth seeing.
- Gundam SEED - Was the first in the series that I watched, and is still my favorite. Has a lot of drama and romance. Also I'm recommending it to you based on your profile quote: " But I guess I enjoy the romance stories with a little something extra to them. Like mechs."
- Hikaru no Go / Chihayafuru - I've also watched several board game/sports animes, such as Shion no Ou, Saki and several Mahjong ones, and these two stand out. Hikaru no Go is more of a shounen, centered almost entirely on the game, while Chihayafuru is 50% Honey and Clover. Both are quite good. :)
I watched FMP and FMPF back when they first came out and loved them, but when TSR came out, too much time had passed and I had already forgotten the story. Will need to do a review of the original before I watch TSR. Will be a joy now since so many years have passed. :P
Same thing with the Haruhi movie. I've watched the first series when it came out, but now to watch the movie I'll pretty much have to review the first series, watch the second series which I haven't, before getting to it.
Many of the other shows you recommended I have actually watched partially but forgot to finish them (either because they were ongoing, or because sometimes I let too much time pass between episodes and lose the flow). For instance, I have partially watched Terra e, Mai Hime, Stand Alone Complex, Seto no Hanayome, Grave of the Fireflies and 5cm before, and was enjoying all of them! I really need to stop picking up new series and start focusing on the ones I haven't finished xD
As for the rest, I've been meaning to watch Tokyo Godfathers for a while already. Same with the new Evangelion movies. Shiki I knew by name but have never watched, so I will add to my queue. And finally, Towa no Quon, is the only one that I knew nothing about, looks interesting!
Hello! Looking at your profile it seems that we enjoy pretty much the same types of anime (i.e. a bit of everything :P). Could you take a look at the list of anime that are unique to you (on the link below) and recommend me some of them? The ones that you think are less obvious but that stood out from the rest. Thanks!
