Well, that's understandable (not really, faggot).
Anyway, the first season of Clannad could be considered similar to Angel Beats, in that it could be considered a better version of a harem anime with one-dimensional character archetypes and an overused high school setting. As for why it's better, I don't know. Perhaps it's because it's rather entertaining, the plot leads into the MC actually choosing a girl, and it sets the stage up for After Story.
But of course, After Story has a lot of mixed opinions, "forced drama" aside. Based on my own observations, I would say a good number of "similarly-tasted" people (you know, good objective tastes and all) at least liked it up until the infamous ending. At that point, one could be forgiving or just say it ruins everything. Actually, the former seems to be a lot rarer for this division of taste.

And you still gave Angel Beats a 7? Anyway, I consider Clannad and After Story to be better than Angel Beats and Air, but I did watch it when I was still entry-level, so it's pretty hard for me to fault it. Clannad basically introduces and familiarizes the characters for After Story, but it's much more lighthearted in nature. I really can't say much because drama is way too subjective (I mean, you seem to have liked Grave of the Fireflies, yet that had a characterization flaw) and the two seasons are different.
If anything, I'd like to know how Angel Beats managed a 7 out of you, despite your "hate" for it.

I would agree if Boku no Pico didn't exist. It's definitely deeper than pretentious hipster shit like Evangelion, though. Also, I feel guilty doing this but:
