Sorry for the super late reply, damn it's already been almost a year now. I've been pretty busy with college and now it looks like summer vacation's back again lol. Probably could've replied sooner but I kept figuring "Oh no, there's anime I still have to catch up to, I'll try and spend this time getting to those and then get back to the comments!" Kinda didn't work out since I'm just now replying and there's still a ton from the fall season I never got to finish. Aside from a few from winter and spring that I watched in anime club I haven't even started those seasons either....ah well.

I kept up with the Naruto manga too and I was sad to see it go, it's a strange thing seeing the end of a series that was effectively my childhood and my big intro to the anime world and even though I wasn't totally pleased with everything that happened later on, it was still emotional seeing how it all turned out and watching Naruto grow up after everything. Yeah part 1 was really good and even now I have a lot of love for it, but that filler onslaught at the end of the anime isn't super pleasant. I think there were a few arcs that were pretty good and gave some spotlight to characters that weren't as relevant to the manga but there was just way too much of the filler when I think about how a good half or so of that anime was filler. Land of Waves was brilliant, it was a great intro to the series and I found Haku and Zabuza very compelling villains even though they weren't around for very long. I'd say the Chunin Exams were my favorite part of the series but almost anything from part 1 was really enjoyable for me. Part 2 was definitely a mixed bag, but I'd say I still like the series overall even if I don't necessarily adore it like I did a while ago.

It looks like you got around to finishing Gurren Lagann, what'd you think of the rest? I'm one of the few who liked part 2 even more than part 1 (though part 1 is still amazing of course) and I just loved watching Simon grow as a character throughout. Seeing Simon develop was the highlight for me even though a lot of people have the most love for Kamina and even watching important scenes from the series now gets me hyped and emotional. Gurren's definitely one of those series that will stay with me forever and even after all this time it remains one of my favorites because it still resonates within me so much, I'd love to see another series like it.

Clannad's definitely an amazing series in my eyes, it's been quite a while since I've seen it but it was one of the most heartwarming (sometimes heartbreaking) and emotional experiences I've had from anime. It's a powerful story with lovely characters and a really beautiful story, one of my first drama feels stories and it's definitely what got me interested in Key overall. As for White Album 2, it's largely unrelated to the original in fact. As far as I'm aware, it takes place in the same setting as the original and makes a few references to it (I'm aware that some of the songs performed in WA2 were originally from the first WA) but other than that, WA2 isn't all too connected to the original. I can say this for sure since watching through WA2 myself, there was never any big confusion on major plot elements since the most important things you'd get out of seeing the original in relation to WA2 would probably be "Oh so that's who that singer they mentioned was" and I assume that's all. But it's an amazing watch and it's one a lot of my friends know I love since I always make it a point to emphasize how great it is since it's relatively under the radar. At least with Gurren Lagann or Clannad, for example, both have well established fanbases and with a certain degree of familiarity with anime people at least know what they are even if they have yet to watch them. With WA2 though, it's hardly a big series (especially in the west) so I always try to convince people to try it out when I can since I think it's a series with a lot of value and extremely well done for being a one cour. To this day I haven't seen another one cour impress me so much, and what interests me in particular is that it's essentially the introduction to the main story (since the VN is much longer and has 3 parts, with the anime only covering the first) so I really want to see what happens with the rest. This summer I'm hoping to learn Japanese to a decent extent to prepare myself before I take classes during the year, I'm not sure if I could get myself to WA2 reading level by then but having a start is better than nothing I guess.

Well it looks like you watched through both seasons of Kaiji and clearly you enjoyed them both but I'd definitely like to hear more about what you thought of the series overall. Which season did you like better? Any favorite game in the bunch? Kaiji was a really nice watch for me since in general I just love psychological battle of wits series. And how was One Outs? I wanna watch the anime too since the translators skipped over some of the stuff that the anime adapted to get to the later parts so I didn't get to see everything yet. I started Samurai Champloo in anime club but we only got through about a quarter of it or so and I never got around to finishing it on my own. What'd you think of it?

I get what you mean, there's something really nice about reading the actual books for a series and sometimes scanlation quality isn't super great. If you ever do get a chance though I do hope you get around to buying all of 20th CB, in my opinion it's well worth it and it's one of the few manga along with FMA (which had a box set, so that wasn't really too hard) and Berserk (which isn't actually complete yet, I just own all that is released right now) that I own in its entirety. One Piece and Deadman were both really enjoyable for me but I never got around to the others you mentioned. Vagabond in particular seems really promising and I'm sure I'd like Bakuman and Shokugeki as well but there are some things I want to get to before those. Shokugeki's definitely gotten more attention with the anime adaptation this season though, what do you think of it compared to the manga?

It feels like it's been so long since I've been active on the ongoing seasonal anime lol. As far as summer since that's when you asked, Tokyo Ghoul and Ao Haru Ride were the ones I enjoyed most. Tokyo Ghoul is one of those stories that's totally up my alley with the whole gray morality and conflict between ghouls and humans and I found the characters likable and the story very engaging. Season 2 was enjoyable to an extent but I feel like it was a weaker installment than the first season and pretty much took away Kaneki's personality so that was a bummer for me. This became even more apparent reading through the manga afterward, as the part of the manga that season 2 adapted is actually really good (arguably better than the first half) and Kaneki's character was what drove the manga for me, I had a pretty good opinion of the characters overall (Touka, Amon, and Nishiki were my favorites in the anime) but Kaneki was really the highlight of the manga for me and it amazes me how colorful and developed he was in the manga in comparison to how season 2 presented him. I still have to start reading the sequel though since even in the manga a lot remains unanswered and the ending was a strange cliffhanger of sorts. As for Ao Haru Ride, it feels a lot like a typical shoujo (it might even be typical, I have very little knowledge about shoujo anime at the moment) but something about the execution was really refreshing and I was fond of all the characters, especially the two leads. I found them both pretty solid characters and enjoyed seeing them interact and watch how they grew closer to each other as the story progressed.

As for fall, I started a bunch of the two-cours but finished very few of them (I did complete Your Lie in April, which I found to be pretty enjoyable even if it didn't totally live up to my expectations). Parasyte looked promising and I had high hopes for Gundam Build Fighters Try since I adored the first season, though I've heard both of those might not be as great as I expected but I still hope I'll enjoy them and I plan to get to them sooner or later. I did manage to finish most of the one-cours and Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works was without a doubt my favorite of that bunch. As a fan of the visual novel I loved seeing how they adapted it and really enjoyed seeing some of the changes they made to give some characters more attention and add more flair to the battles and I found it really good as an adaptation. I have yet to see the second season since schoolwork got me really busy during spring quarter but I've heard mixed things about how the second season adapts the VN so I'm a bit worried. Has the second season been enjoyable for you?

Winter and spring things really dropped off and I've watched very little from those. From the winter anime, I've seen the first episode of Assassination Classroom and Rolling Girls, both of which seemed pretty enjoyable but it was still far too early to make any conclusions about them. I saw the first 2 of Death Parade and really enjoyed it, it seems like my type of series and I intend to get back to it sometime soon. For spring, I've seen 5 episodes of Kekkai Sensen and really like the style (kinda reminds me of stuff like Baccano and Durarara) but worry that it doesn't have enough time to live up to its potential and I'm still not especially fond of the characters so I hope the later episodes find a way to amaze me. I've also seen the first episode of Arslan Senki, Hibike Euphonium, and Ore Monogatari, all of which look pretty promising. Still too early to make solid conclusions about them but it seems like people are fond of all three so I think I have a lot to look forward to.

Well, that ended up being longer than it needed to be considering I really haven't watched a whole lot of the ongoings as of late but now that I have time I hope I can get through them. And sure thing, I love having a good chat about worthwhile anime and I'm really glad that you ended up enjoying Kaiji. If there are any amazing series you think I need to give a try then definitely let me know and I'll try to get around to them since I'm in dire need of another masterpiece to amaze me lol.

Anywho, since it's been a really long time, how have you been? Has anything especially interesting happened? Any great seasonal anime or other series that happened to impress you?

Oh dear, it's already been almost 3 months since you replied to me. I took way longer than expected so I'm really sorry about that.

I'm not sure if you still have summer vacation since it seems like a lot of people I know are going back to school now, but how was your summer? Did you get around to a lot of great anime during the months off? And how was Naruto for you? I remember Naruto being one of the main gateway anime/manga for me and I loved it a few years ago. I still enjoy it now though I'm not as big a fan as I used to be. I haven't kept up with the anime for a long time though (I only read the manga these days) so chances are one day I'll just start from the beginning and see what I think about it now compared to when I was younger.

As for my favorite anime, well one of them is most definitely Code Geass as I'm sure you could tell. Geass was incredibly thrilling and Lelouch was an utterly amazing protagonist, it was great seeing how the plot progressed and how Lelouch developed with each new difficulty. Seems like you also loved Geass so that's a good thing. Another favorite of mine you've seen is Steins;Gate, which is one of the most well-written stories I've encountered. It definitely started slow but it developed into a really intelligent, gripping story that kept getting better until the very end. As for my other favorites, those would be Gurren Lagann, Clannad, and White Album 2. Gurren Lagann is my #1 favorite and it's a mecha action series with a lot of energy and heart. It's a really inspirational story that means a lot to me personally and is just incredibly enjoyable and over the top. It looks like you've actually watched a good portion of that already, what do you think of what you've seen? Unlike most of the fanbase, I actually prefer the second half and the last few episodes are easily among my favorite in the anime so hopefully you get the chance to finish it sometime. Clannad is a romance drama that revolves largely around its characters and focuses on family as a theme, it's incredibly emotional and one of the most powerful stories I've seen. It starts out goofy and relaxing but it has some tearjerker moments and I'd say it's nothing short of beautiful. White Album 2 is also a romance drama, but it focuses on music and love triangle drama. WA2's music is brilliant and some of my favorite anime songs come from it, and the soundtrack really does set the mood for the story. The second half is when the drama really kicks in and the darker and more complex aspects of the characters start to come out, and I'd say it has some of the best characterization I've seen in a one-cour anime. Technically it's still incomplete since the anime only covered the Introductory Chapter segment of the visual novel it adapts, but it's amazing on its own and I very much hope the rest gets animated one day.

As far as recommendations go, I'd definitely recommend any of my favorites that you haven't gotten around to yet (as well as finishing up Gurren). I have a few ideas for other recommendations though. Since you seem to like psychological thrillers (Death Note and Steins;Gate in particular) I'd say Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is a good one to try. Higurashi's more mystery oriented and has some horror elements but it's a very well-written story and has a lot of similarities to Steins;Gate (Kai, the second season, in particular). Another one you could try is Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. Largely because I saw that you enjoyed Gen Urobuchi stories like Fate/Zero and Psycho-Pass, and Urobuchi also wrote Madoka. It seems lighthearted and bubbly but it's actually a pretty dark story with some powerful themes, I'd say it's definitely worth a try if you want a series of that nature.

You seem to enjoy psychological Madhouse adaptations so I think it'd also be worth trying out both seasons of Kaiji, which revolves around gambling and battles of intellect while also focusing on greed and ambiguous morality. Along with Kaiji I'd like to recommend any other series by Nobuyuki Fukumoto, I think the only other animated one is Akagi (which I have yet to read) but he's written quite a lot of psychological manga and I just started another one of his series (Tobaku Haouden Zero) which is proving to be incredibly engaging. Similarly I'd recommend series by Shinobu Kaitani, there's One Outs which seems like a baseball anime but is actually more about the psychological battle of wits aspect and the pitcher trying to outsmart the opponents he faces, along with Liar Game (which has no anime at the moment but is one of my favorite manga), which revolves around an honest, naive girl and an ex-con artist who work together in a competition called the Liar Game, in which contestants attempt to deceive and outwit others in an attempt to win large sums of money. Lastly, since you also enjoyed Monster, I'd recommend other manga by the same author, Naoki Urasawa, particularly 20th Century Boys (my favorite manga and favorite series in general) and Pluto. 20th Century Boys focuses on a group of boys who dreamed that they would be heroes and save the world and later grow up to see that someone is plotting to cause disasters in the exact same way that they planned when they were children. It's a mystery-oriented series that focuses on identifying the mysteries of the past and discovering the identity of the one behind all of the destruction. As for Pluto, it's a psychological thriller take on one of the Astro Boy arcs, though sadly I have not read the original to compare.

It looks like I wrote a lot there so hopefully something in there will prove to be enjoyable for you. You've seen quite a bit so a lot of series I thought of are ones you've already gotten around to and I still haven't seen some of your favorite series so I can't give reliable recommendations for those, but hopefully I'll get a chance sometime soon.
Beabaedoobee Jun 21, 2014 9:29 AM
Oh, thats cool. Tennis definitely seems really fun, I would like to play it sometime! Anyhow, enjoy!

And, the ending of Ping Pong was awesome!!

No problem, hopefully you will enjoy Golden Boy!

Oh, you should rate it what you think it should be, but do try not to get influened with ratings, but again it happens to most of us.

Thanks, I also enjoyed talking to you 'bout anime, yeah sure, ask away anytime when you have any question, and I will try to answer it.

Thanks! I hope you will also have a awesome summer!
Beabaedoobee Jun 17, 2014 3:51 PM
I will be playing mostly Basketball, as I a fan of that, but I do at times play Football.

Yeah, the latest episode of Fairy Tail nicely set the stage bringing the competition to it's climax. Now, we know that its going down next episode. Exactly, Peco was a true hero, let's see how the last episode plays out.

Great to hear that.

Oh, that is very good question indeed. First of all, don't let my ratings discourage you to watch a series. Before I state my reason, I will just that anything that I gave 5 or over is something I enjoyed, as it says in my profile. So, to answer this question, I will have to talk 'bout my rating system. I rate anime by taking the average from story, character, and entertainment. So, a series have to be great in those category to go to my top list. Now, Golden Boy is something entertaining, in the level of comedy, it is better than many, but that is all. It is very fun to watch, but the series didn't hit the top rating for story nor character, thus my rating is 5. This doesnt mean it had horrible story, but not enough to get a high score. But, I would recommend the series to anyone, as it is extremely funny, and that's what we all seek; it was a fun series.

So, just like to mention that ratings, enjoyment, and a anime being in favourite is completely separate things. So, just going back to my list, I would recommend anything that I gave 5 or over.

Oh, that's great to hear! Well, I had Bleach at 9 all the time, but I dropped it to 8, since I had to be fair. But, its understandable that it's difficult to do that, as it holds a special place, one tend to be biased towards it. Yeah, the filler arc wasnt always great, but its as you say, Bleach have some unforgettable moments. I think it's okay to do that, as every has series they hold special. But, again rating and favourite has nothing in relation or so I believe.

So, my Summer is finally here, therefore I no longer am jealous.

Nice, I can't agree more, I mean just having it in your hand is such a great feeling. Yup, exactly, collection is always a great stuff! I see, nice! Wow, that Bakuman box set looks AWESOME!

I see, same as me. I will be playing sports during the day, while watching anime during the night, lol.

Yeah, great to see that. Definitely agree with that, Mushishi is beautiful; it's pure gold. And, Fairy Tail is getting so much better with that latest episode, now let the fight start...Especially with Erza. Since I was late with the reply, that episode 10 of Ping Pong was crazy!!! Peco for thw win! He is the real hero! Really looking forward to the latest episode, this is going down!

One Week Friends about a girl whose memory resets every 1 week. It is a sad and self-reflecting drama. The characters are lovable and the story is pure gold! I could suggest giving it a go.

Thanks for that, Yeah, I heard a lot of good stuff 'bout the ending of KHR, so I plan to read it sometime this Summer!

Thank you very much! Many hates on Bleach, but it was my first anime, so it is quiet special to me.
sanjithecook123 Jun 7, 2014 6:31 PM
Not sure when I'll get to it but when I do I'll make sure to message you so we can talk about it. And at that point I'll probably get to watching the second season cause I'm sure I'll like season 1!

Have an awesome summer as well, my friend!
sanjithecook123 Jun 7, 2014 8:09 AM
Yeah, anime's awesome!

Yeah I felt the same about Code Geass. I probably wouldn't have watched it if it wasn't for my brother who was constantly pushing me to watch it, saying it was amazing. Have fun watching it! It's an amazing show.
sanjithecook123 Jun 6, 2014 8:46 AM
Your favorites list is awesome! Love every character that I know on there!

Haha yeah, I was inspired by Killua. And some people say anime doesn't teach you anything and it's just for kids.

Gurren Lagann is definitely one of my most favorite anime (as you can see it's in my Favorites). You get attached to the characters and experience the rough times with them. I usually don't like to watch Mecha anime (never really liked it) but Gurren Lagann is the one exception as of now. Not to mention the music which is amazing and goes well with the show. I highly recommend you watch it, I'm sure you won't regret it!
Beabaedoobee Jun 6, 2014 7:40 AM
Hello, sorry for this late reply.

Oh, that's great to hear! Whoa! Looks like you have been collecting a lot! You are the real fan man, lol! So, do you often collect manga?

Oh, so your summer have started? Nice, now I am jealous. So, what is your plan for this summer?

Looks like you have been watching some great series this season! The top 3 sequels with Mushishi being at top (for me atleast). Jojo is getting better, and there is Fairy Tail with its greatness at the latest episode! From here, it's going down!

Leaving aside the sequels, my favourite would be Ping Pong the Animation followed by One Week Friends, and Haikyuu!! Oh, No game No life is also very entertaining!

Thank you very much!

By the way, just wanted ask this question: Do you know roughly around which chapters the anime stopped for Katekyo Hitman Reborn?
sanjithecook123 Jun 5, 2014 7:16 AM
Well thank you :3 Yeah I think the King is one of the best, if not the best, villains in all of anime.

Yeah I haven't had this much fun in a while talking to someone! And you don't need to be thankful, that's what friends are for! :D

I'll definitely be watching Mushishi this summer and I can't wait to talk about it!
sanjithecook123 Jun 4, 2014 7:41 PM
Maybe I should start watching Mushishi soon then. Good art is always good for an anime.

Well we didn't get to see Gon's sacrifice this episode but I hope in the next one. The King is way too strong! I feel like the only way the King'll die is if he remembers Komugi and then Pouf kills her. Then kills Pouf and commits suicide (I really don't like Pouf lol but it's good that a villain makes me hate him so much). But for me it's all speculation. Can't wait until next week!

Yeah it's always fun discussing anime with other people!!
sanjithecook123 Jun 2, 2014 2:13 PM
No problem!

Dressrosa's amazing right now! Yeah I caught up to the anime around Punk Hazard and started reading the manga. It's never bad to re-experience One Piece! I have like 6 volumes right now and I've been trying to save so I can buy the others. Warms my heart to see One Piece all the time

I was thinking of starting Kai (Saiyan, Frieza, and Cell Sagas) over the summer and once Kai 2014 gets dubbed (which I think is coming soon) I'll probably start watching it. Never really liked the Japanese voices for DBZ >.> How was the first season of Mushishi? I've heard some good things about it and it seems to be ranked pretty high.

Yeah I can't wait until tomorrow! I heard Gon sacrifices something like Kurapika did. Pretty sure it isn't his life but I'm thinking it might be his ability to use Nen. I tried reading the manga, but I don't know if it's just me but the drawings feel off (not really bad cause I can't draw any better XD) so I think I'll stick with the anime. If they have to stop the anime so the manga can get ahead, then I'll probably start reading the manga then. I heard these concluding episodes of Chimera Ant Arc have some crazy plot twists so my hopes are high!

Thanks! You're pretty awesome yourself. Can't wait for all the wonderful conversations we'll be having
