Lately, there has been a sudden interest in zombies and multiple TV shows, movies, and novels have been made on this topic. The well-known “High school of the Dead” tells a story of a group of high schoolers surviving a zombie outbreak. Because there have been multiple successes with this type of show (ie. The Walking Dead), it grabbed a lot of attention fast. Even though the concept promised success, the result was poor. Outrageous characters, random story development, nonsense back stories, and poorly timed fan service all made the show worse than it should have been.
But before I criticize it, I’ll start with some
...
of the positive things. Throughout the show, there are small side stories told about the people outside of this high school group. They tend to be more realistic and believable. Because they are realistic, probable situations, they are more interesting to watch than the main story itself. They also manage to evoke emotions and set the mood the show was meant to present. In addition, the animation runs quite smoothly. The fight scenes are exciting and not at all choppy (with the exception of few). Another interesting part of the show is the unique method they chose to present humans. The writers chose to show both light and dark side of humans. Unlike most characters in shows, everyone in HOTD acted like a human. They weren’t always good, and they weren’t always evil. It was able to portray what people would actually do during a crisis.
Now that the positives are out, I will talk about the negatives of the show. I’ll start off with the characters. It seems that characters were created in a way to allow writers to have an easier time explaining situations. This made for characteristics that are ridiculous and over-the-top. This may sound all right, but as the show progresses, their characteristics seem to amplify and become more and more ridiculous. In addition, the backstories that come with the characters are far too unbelievable. From being a daughter of an insanely rich family to being trained by a soldier in the US, they come out of nowhere and expect the viewers to comprehend them. The overall story is not much better. Every time they are stuck in a sticky situation, something miraculous occurs to help them out. Every solution is too convenient, ending up making the whole scene anticlimactic. The final, most obvious, mistake of the show is the timing of fan service. Fan service can be found in most anime so it is expected. But intentionally showing them in the middle of an intense scene takes away the seriousness of the situation. I am not necessarily saying that fan service ruined the show and there shouldn’t be any, but the timing producers chose to put them in is just stupid.
Do I recommend it?
I do not recommend this anime to anyone. There are some interesting side stories, but that one factor cannot redeem other failing parts of the show. HOTD is simply not worth the time.
(When I talk about this with my friends, they all say it is an anime and it is expected to be ridiculous. I do not have a problem with ridiculous shows, but I believe when a show starts out with the intention of being realistic, they should stick with it.)

Before I go into the specifics I would like to say one thing. All of these are my own beliefs and I do not expect anyone to completely agree with them or agree with them at all. But as a person who have watched almost all genre of anime, and countless number of shows (I do not really feel like adding all to my profile), I believe my opinion may help someone who has trouble deciding "Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga nai!" is worth their time or not.
Enjoyment:
Unlike other reviews, I will tell you this. I predict that 90% of the
...
viewers will enjoy the show and never no why. There is not much in the show, but it manages to hook its viewers with its mysterious aura. It presents itself as another generic anime with small twists. That's it. Nothing out of the ordinary. Some twists are even predictable. And yet every time I ask have you enjoyed the show, they reply with a solid yes.
Story / Various aspects of the story:
Story is nothing spectacular. Small stories that lead to a predictable ending is all i can really say. The basis of the show however, talks a lot about the anime culture and can be relate-able to viewers. It is nice to see another anime that talks about why criticism against people with different hobbies is wrong. This particular message was nice but the other message wasn't. I wouldn't say it was necessarily promoting incest, but it was indirectly doing it. If I understood it correctly, it would say "Love has no barrier" or "Love can beat everything". The only problem with this is that society has such a negative perspective on incest, that the first time watching the show, it felt wrong. Of course the producers weren't going for this completely, but every time you snap out an realize the show is about incest, you will think to yourself why you are watching it.
*Another genre that I did not expect from the show was comedy. Every episode there was at least one scene that made me laugh.
Characters:
Characters are quite bland in the beginning, but begins to develop towards the end of the season getting prepared for the second season. Though they are bland, they are believable than most anime characters. The way they act is human and less of a fictional character.
Do I recommend it?
I would definitely recommend the show. If you ask me, I would have a hard time answering. But if you want a show that will lift you up and make you laugh, this is the show for you.

*This review is spoiler free.
Story:
First lets talk about the story on the surface. It is quite simple. Kill, survive, go home.
...
Sadly, the over arcing story is far to simple to be interesting. However, character's back stories have been done very nicely. The underlying message is much heavier. It talks mainly about evil acts humans are capable of. When placed in a desperate situation, people are willing to go as far as murdering another human being. There are multiple situations where characters have the choice to kill or flee. Most choose to kill. Of course the show is set in an extreme situation, but the message saying that everyone is capable of evil is prominent and realistic. With a nice mix of these, the story line is enticing due to its complex yet simple nature.
*Show ends off making you want to kill yourself though.
Characters:
The first episode would make anyone want to punch the main character in the face for being so stupid. But other than that, the character developments were done quite phenomenally. Interesting back stories and significant changes in their personalities throughout the show makes every single character likable in some way.
Enjoyment:
It just like Steins;gate. It starts off incredibly slow. But once it hits the climax, you will not be able to stop watching the show. It was one of the most addicting shows I have watched in 2013.
Do I recommend it?
I highly recommend it! Even though the ending will make you want to

*The review is spoiler free.
Story:
The story is absolute nonsense. It is weak, hard to believe, and shoved down the
...
viewer's throat. It is not appealing due to its lack of depth, and is hard to even follow at times. The story seems like it is going one way, but takes a turn for something completely different.
Characters:
Being generic is fine, but when a show crosses over the line from generic to completely predictable, it becomes a pain to watch the show. Before even understanding what is happening, the viewers can easily tell what the character will do. In contrast, a little later in the show, some character progression can be seen. As if they got a lobotomy, very few characters change their personality completely. It adds some interesting things, but it is not enough to redeem other unchanging characters.
Biggest problem of the show:
Fan service. It was completely unnecessary, but the producers included it anyways. Instead of intense violence, fan service managed to disturb me more. All the scenes with fan service is completely unfitting and borderline weird. The show is expected to be gory and bloody, but fan service is not.
Do I recommend it?
I am personally fond of the horror genre and enjoyed it.If you are looking for a show with insane amounts of blood, go ahead. Plot should not be expected.

But as a person who have watched almost all genre of anime, and countless number of shows (I do not really feel like adding all to my profile), I believe my opinion may help someone who has trouble deciding Hataraku Maou-snama! is worth their time or not.
Story:
The show does not try to stay comical or try to stay serious the whole time.It tries to maintain the
...
balance of comedy and drama but it doesn't work out. By not focusing on either one, it dilutes the drama and the comedy when it happens. Because of this factor, it was not able to create a solid story line, but gave general ideas each time something happened. In the end, the story line was not satisfactory, and the viewers are left with feeling as if something is missing. But this does NOT necessarily mean that the show is bad. There are other shows that doesn't have an overarching story that ends up good. Even though the end product was dis satisfactory, I do not believe the producers went for a show too serious, which makes the lack of story a little understandable.
Character:
Characters are absolutely confusing at times.
(There will be some spoilers for this part. But the most if not all of them are revealed in the first two or three episodes.)
There are quite a few main characters that just blows my mind. The Overlord, a.k.a. Satan, is projected as the evil being that slaughtered and destroyed anything that lay before him if it got in his way. Well he is for the first one minute anyways. As soon as he enters the human realm, he becomes the ultimate good guy. THERE IS NO LOGIC. Even his ruthless right wing general turns into a good guy. The show tries to pin this on the fact that they have lost their powers, but i'll go out on a limb and say SATAN, who was responsible for the death of millions, will just bow down and serve the humans he despised. Not only serving them, but going out of his way to save them. The show does occasionally reminds the viewers that he is Satan, but it doesn't matter because he is still acting like the HERO of the show. But lets say I can accept the fact that Satan turned into a good guy. How about the fact that servants of Gods (Priests, believers, and ANGELS) suddenly decided to commit sin for glory and profit? Some might argue it shows the corruption behind modern religion. But the general image of God and his followers are GOOD. The show throws that concept right out the window and makes them the bad guys. Honestly, the weird character personalities would have been acceptable if they didn't start out with Satan's army killing everything.
(end of spoiler)
The problems do not end here. The characters are flat. There is little to no character development making some situations far too predictable. Most characters feel like copies from other shows. One positive thing I have to say is the fact that their lack of depth made it easier to fit in with random episodes.
Enjoyment:
The review makes it sound like you cannot enjoy the show. But in reality, it can be. Someone who only enjoys heavy story lines might not, but for someone who want entertainment by watching only one or two episodes, its great.
Do I recommend it?
Personally, I would. Though it lacks in story and character, it can be easily accessible to any type of viewers. Hardcore or not, you will get some kind of a kick out of it. But looking at the show with hard, cold facts, I wouldn't recommend it if you want something serious.

This is my first ever review.
Before I go into the specifics I would like to say one thing. All of these are my own beliefs and I do not expect anyone to completely agree with them or agree with them at all. But as a person who have watched almost all genre of anime, and countless number of shows (I do not really feel like adding all to my profile), I believe my opinion may help someone who has trouble deciding Baccano is worth their time or not.
Storytelling style:
Unlike most 12 to 16 episode shows, it tells multiple stories. You might be thinking
...
that it would be rushed and confusing to fuse multiple stories in one short anime. In a way it is true. Most characters are not able to develop and sticks with the personality the show started with. If you are not paying attention the story can easily confuse you. The transition between story arcs are very brief, making it somewhat unsettling when it switches over.
The actual story line:
As I mentioned before, there are multiple separate story lines. It amazed me when they all fit in so perfectly like a puzzle. Instead of multiple stories that were completely irrelevant to each other (eg. Darker than Black), they all came together and finished as one story. The conclusion however, was somewhat disappointing due to the lack of closure with certain characters.
Characters:
Every character has their own unique personality(obviously). But the huge problem I had was the lack of character development. Off course all the characters are lovable, but it does get old after the first few episodes. I would say 90% of the characters will stay the same throughout the show. Their beliefs and actions are already set on the first episode and doesn't change. I understand the difficulty of cramming in character development on top of multiple stories in a short anime. But because it lacks character development, you can easily predict what the he/she will do ahead of time.
Sound:
The soundtrack is simply marvelous. I don't think I have ever been this addicted to an opening in my life.
Do i recommend it?
I would recommend Baccano if they ask for my opinion. I have been very critical, but the overall experience of the show is very good. The complex yet simple story lines will hook you instantly. The characters are lovable and the soundtrack makes you want to dance.Yes, the show definitely has flaws. But every show has flaws.
