If there’s one thing that can be said about anime, it’s that it can get quite controversial at times. From the Ecchi genre, to the Horror genre, to the Psychological genre, anime is often presented with scenes of intense language, violence, gore, nudity, sex, and highly questionable themes. Mardock Scramble is one such anime.

main antagonist of this anime, who gets her out, gives her shelter, offers her his love and support… and then proceeds to blow her up.
Severely injured and on the verge of death, she is then rescued by Dr.Easter , who effectively turns her into a sexy Japanese version of Robocop. She is then given the ability to hack electronics, kick ass, and take names. To bring the crimes of Shell to light, she partners up with Oeufcoque, a highly intelligent electronical mouse that can transform, doubling as; her wardrobe, voice collar, gun, knife, shield, radar, emotional support, and love interest. Effectively putting batman’s utility belt to shame.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, yes this anime is rated R-18+, with themes of rape, incest, prostitution, murder, and impending bestiality. To put into perspective how fucked up this anime gets. One of the villains, is a giant tit sack. . . No really. While his boss, Mr. Pussyhands, gives quite a new meaning to the term “pussyslap”, and takes the act of “masturbation” to a whole new level.
One of the things I can say about this anime, is that it is very dark, and takes itself very seriously. You get a feel for Balot’s fear & mistrust of strangers, her loneliness & desperation, and her pain & anguish. As you begin to comprehend the tormented soul of Rune Balot, you start to get an understanding of what this anime is trying to convey.
A ‘balot’ , or ‘balut’, is an underdeveloped duck embryo. It is a representation of the fragility of Rune’s character as well as her torqued innocence. While Oeufcoque (French for egg shell), serves to protect Rune, both physically and mentally.
This dark and gritty concept, question of morals, and beautiful use of symbolism, makes this an anime I would definitely recommend checking out. The animation is a mix of 3d cg, brilliant slow mo, and fast paced action. While the anime takes very serious tones and displays them in a very serious manner. Which is a nice break from all the mindless violence, gore, sex, and nudity often found in other anime.

Takashi is skipping class when he notices someone in the courtyard getting bitten. Sensing something bad is about to happen, he then proceeds to go slap a couple bitches, grab a couple weapons, and kick some undead ass. From there boobs fly, tits jiggle and you have yourself “High School of the Dead” in a nutshell.
The core of the anime however tackles some more serious tones. It shows the desperation and development of the cast as they are forced to adapt to the changing world, where anarchy takes the streets, and comfort is but a fleeting dream. It shows the concerns for their families, friends,

and cohorts while challenging the very morals they grew up with. Having said that, it is quite hard to take this anime seriously when the amount of fan service presented throughout is enough to freeze over Egypt (get it? Fan?).
If you want to get a feel for what this anime is like. Just imagine high school, but with guns… and tits, and zombies. Actually, despite being an anime with the word “High School” in its title, the majority of the anime takes place elsewhere, where they seek shelter in various locations and settlements while searching for their family members and a safe haven.
One of my gripes with watching this show is, the main villain teacher guy… douchefag. Who happens to be a condescending, arrogant, and manipulative twat… who also happens wears a dick on his head. Guess what happens to him in the end? *spoiler* They let him go… Oh For Fucks Sake. “Come on! Shoot his ass Lee! If you ain’t gonna shoot him, kung fu his ass or something!”
There were a couple things in this anime that didn’t register with me; like how Hirano conveniently took shooting lessons in America, how Shizuka’s friend happened to be a special forces operative, how Takagi’s parents happened to be Batman and Wonder woman, why all the breasts seemed to be shaped like NFL footballs, and how Saeko’s breasts seemed to be two completely separate entities (heh titties) that seemed to defy the very laws of physics.
However because this anime was so over the top, you could just enjoy it for its entertainment value and level of ridiculousness. The action scenes were extremely over the top as was the amount of fan service . Meanwhile there‘s a decent amount of humor, ideology, and character development spread throughout. The first season however, doesn’t resolve everything and leaves it up for a second season.
The only problem is, the manga has been put on indefinite hiatus for just over a year now, and plans for a second season are nowhere in sight. Apparently, despite the overwhelming popularity of the anime (currently #27), it was so controversial that they had to put it on pause.

If you are a fan of; fan service, zombies, footballs, panties, over the top action, and boob physics, then this is an anime I would recommend. Who knows, if you like it, tell your friends, sign a petition or something in hopes that Shoji Sato will take a break from drawing hentai and get back to this series. (Then again with the current rating system, his hentai might even be more “safe” than this series.)

Welcome to an anime about guns, girls with guns, guns with guns, girl on girl action, and guns that are girls. Yes, that’s right. This anime is about guns that are anthropomorphized into girls… which are then armed with guns. (GUNCEPTION). How does this make any sense? I have no fucking clue. However, once you get pass this ridiculous setting, you can enjoy the rest of this anime without any problem. Since logic went fuck all over the place.

Yes, this anime is well deserving of an ‘AR-18’ rating (pun intended), as there is a good amount of fan service, thongs, sexual innuendos, implied yuri, and just straight up yuri. Where every gun in the district apparently wants to ‘bang’ the main character (lol puns). Sorry, couldn't resist.
However, that is what you should expect while watching this anime. There are a lot of gun puns spread throughout that attribute to the anime. Even the title itself is a play on the Japanese word for “Gun”. And the great thing about puns, is that they’re so god damn awful, you can’t help but laugh.
If you want to get a feel for what this anime is like. Just imagine high school, but with guns. As far as the story goes, there isn’t one. At least, there’s no main storyline that it really follows. The episodes can be about, snow days, firefights, field trips, or school festivals. This lack of overall plot aids in the pacing of this anime. As a result, you lose track of “what episode you were on” and just enjoy the anime for what it is, pure retardedness.
The final arc felt a little off however, as they tried to set a slightly more serious tone, and the final villain coming out of seemingly nowhere. The anime really isn’t given a proper ending. However, seeing as the manga is still publishing and the episodes are completely random as fuck, there is a potential for a second season. Or at least, more OVA’s.
In the end, if you’re a fan of guns, girls, yuri, or god awful puns. Then this anime is worth checking out. It is filled with trivia on guns ranging from information on; ammunition sizes, classifications, weapon parts, weapon maintenance, fragmentation, what were to happen if you fire a subsonic round through water, and whether or not M-16 can grow a dick on her head. If this genre of anime appeals to you, then go ahead, check it out, you’ll have a ‘blast’. (ok I’ll stop now)

I had always wondered what would happen when I die. Would I just fade to nothingness, burn in a pit of eternal fire, be reborn as a pigeon and get to crap all over people’s cars, or simply be sent back to high school. Right..
Our main character wakes up with no memories and soon finds out that he has died, and that he is doomed to live out his afterlife in high school... Great. Because in this afterlife, if you study your little butt off and survive the onslaught of midterms, finals and placement tests, you get to be reborn as a seaslug, yay! (sarcasm).

He soon joins a group of students called the SOS brigade, I mean, the SSS brigade, where together they rebel against the absolute god for having dealt them a short and unjust life. How exactly do they rebel against this god? By not going to class. Apparently God is the principal and the Devil is played by my 10th grade history teacher.
If you want to get a feel for what this anime is like. Just imagine high school, but with guns; where you skip class, steal people's lunches, and butt heads with the student body president. . . so just high school in general.
This premise sounds pretty ridiculous yeah, but that is the tone set by the anime. Being set in the afterlife, no one actually dies because they are all already dead, and anything else is simply overkill. They can get halved, impaled, drowned, wasted, plastered, and hammered, only to wake up the next hour with nothing more than a bad hangover.
Their methods of rebelling against god range from; trying to get miss student body president to fail all her placement tests, trying to win in a game of baseball, or just running around like a bunch of hyperactive retards.
All in all this anime is a good laugh. If you’re looking for an anime that doesn’t take itself too seriously then give it a go. There is good humor spread throughout, a nice handful of actions scenes, and devious plots to ‘stick it to the man’. That is.. for the first half of the show.
The second half takes a more serious undertone which brings back to perspective that, high school is a load of B.S., and that they are all stuck in the afterlife. From there things start to progress in the show and you get to realizing that, “Shit Just Got Serious”. Soon you'll find what "had you laughing aloud earlier" now leaving you in tears.
Here comes the gripes I had watching this show. First off, high school was NEVER that friendly for me. In here, enemies become friends and frienemies become BFF‘s. I got dropkicked for trying to shake hands with a senior. >.>‘
The latter half of the anime felt a little rushed to me, with the mood of the anime doing a 180, and the final villain coming out of seemingly nowhere. It’s like the producers randomly pulled a character out of their asses and threw it at us. I don’t even think they bothered to give him a proper name.
I do think the anime ended a little too early. It had the possibility to go on for quite a bit, with the SSS brigade constantly sprouting half baked idiotic ideas on how to dick around, and the student body president coming to the realization that, she was dealing with a bunch of retards.
I’m not saying I was dissatisfied with the ending, I just thought it was a bit abrupt.
Would I recommend this anime? Yes.
I had a great time watching it. And the ending, albeit a bit abrupt, was very well done. The animation is beautiful, as is the music. So go on, check it out, if you haven‘t already, and tell me what you think.

For my second review, I thought I should review an anime that I enjoyed, one that everyone has probably heard of. “Puella Magi Madoka Magica”, or alternatively “Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica”, or “Mahou Shoujo Philosophical Nonsensica”, or just “Rape”.
I went into this anime pretty much how I imagine everyone else did, as an innocent child… right. But this anime took that "innocence" and beat it to a bloody pulp.
When I first saw the art and description, I thought it was going to be one of those animes that would warm my heart and stuff, with cute little magical girls doing cute things, where hilarity
...
would ensue and I would puke out rainbows so on and so forth. Right... (apparently I missed the “Horror and Psychological” tags)
After the first episode I was left confused, wondering “When do I get to see Madoka fly into a pole?”. I was thinking, that would maybe kick in the next episode. But so came the next episode, where aforementioned scene was nowhere to be found, and I was left even more confused. Which led to the infamous 3rd episode.
I was starting to enjoy this anime, sure it wasn’t all what I had expected, but the character of Mami was total badass, and Madoka was finally going to join ranks with her, and my hopes of 'Madoka flying into a pole' were looking up. But then they took all that away from me and the anime proceeded on to become one of the darkest animes I have ever watched. From there on, with each episode spiraling me deeper and deeper into despair, the only thing keeping me going was a box of tissues and some Viagra… I mean… Zoloft.
And then it brought me episode 10 which finally brought hope back into my world, only to be shot down again almost instantaneously *sigh*. At this point I could only wonder how the ending could ever give me any closure. Well..
As for the ending, I’m not quite sure how to felt about it. It had me more confused than you probably are now reading this review. It seemed like an ending written by Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, and the director of Inception, trying to mindfuck you so hard, you end up getting an aneurysm, giving up on all reason, and just accepting what they throw at you. At least that’s what happened to me.
Time isn‘t a constant? Okay. The universe started as an infinitesimally small point? Seems legit. The universal laws of physics don‘t apply to black holes? Sure. The moon is made of cheese? Why not. At some point I gave up trying to think too hard and just accepted it.
Despite being violated in body mind and spirit, I quite liked this anime. It was interesting and original. I did think that the middle episodes were a tad bit slow. However it kept me looking for that light at the end of the tunnel… which happened to be a train -_-’ . . . a train of philosophical bullshit and theoretical nonsense, yeah thanks ‘Shaft’. I do wish I got some warning beforehand, although I suppose if the pedobear were walking around town carrying a sign saying “Warning: Rapist” it would raise a couple flags… then again any bear walking around town carrying anything would raise a couple flags. Where was I? Oh right.
All in all I 'would' recommend this anime. It is definitely something different and is worth a try. The music is absolutely amazing with the soundtrack from Yuki Kajiura still giving goosebumps every time I listen to it. The opening song by ClariS was nice and catchy, even if the opening animation was just a pack of lies. Might as well play “Friendship is Magic” as an introduction to “Grave of the Fireflies”. The animation was a mix between square moe blobs, to magazine cut outs, to cotton balls with mustaches... um... ‘Shaft’? What the hell were you smoking?
(This review is a reflection of what I thought of the anime, would I recommend it, so on and so forth. I didn't want to risk spoiling the anime, or write a boring regurgitation of plot and character. You can find one of those on wiki :p. I wanted to keep this short and entertaining. With that said, I do hope you enjoyed reading this review.)

I figured for my first speed review I'd try to do my best not to completely berate an anime or worship it as a deity (Edit: I failed). What better to do it on than Hyakka Ryouran?
Possibly the worst anime I've ever watched. However, it DID manage to get on my watched(completed) list, instead of the pile of crap I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, the (dropped) list. Which makes me ponder how I ever finished it.
I can't really be unbiased, because I honestly hate almost every single aspect of this show. The story is border line retarded, there is little character development,

and none of the characters are all that likable. (save maybe the sadistic side of Yagyu Jubei, but then again, I seem have an affinity for crazy psycho bitches)
The main character was as interesting as a pile of dog crap, and that's as far as I'll go into. None of the girls had any depth. The main heroine (the mya~ side of Yagyu Jubei) had the personality and intelligence of a 5 month old kitten. Don't get me wrong, I quite like kittens, I just wouldn't want one for a girlfriend nor a main heroine.
One of my biggest gripes with this show is, the main villain general guy... douchefag. This is one of the most hated characters on my hated characters list.
One of the biggest pet peeves I have, are guys who treat girls like shit, and guys that wear dicks on their heads. This guy is both.
Often times villains fall into four categories. Ones which you can hate with all your heart, ones you can fear and admire, ones you can connect with, and the random bunches of monsters demons and angels that want humans dead. The only downfall with the first type of villian, is for some reason, more than 50% the time, they get forgiven, have a change of heart and do a 180.
Bullshit! These villains spend the majority of the anime fueling my hate, keeping me watching and hoping for the satisfying moment when they get their heads torn off and necks shatted down à la Duke Nukem style. But no, they often give some bullshit reason for why they did what they did, in hopes of having the viewer connect with them.
Too late!! I already hate them with all my heart. They doesn't deserve retribution, they just needs to dieee.
But on to why I started the show. The animation is.. amazing. It is one of the best animation styles I have ever seen. The whole entire feel of the anime is like a 1950's samurai movie. The ink tones, outlines, and colors are beautiful. Random ink splotches filled the screen at times, making the anime feel like a beautiful work of calligraphy. Even the censors are brilliantly done (via conveniently placed inkblots). Which makes it such a shame, that the story and characters are so god damn awful.
This well done animation (and the hopes of seeing the main villain murdered brutally at the end) is the ONLY thing that kept me watching. With knowing that *SPOILER*, that asshole doesn't die in a complete satisfying bloody mess, nor the main character, nor any of the other retarded characters in this show. It's really hard to recommend this.
If you want to see mindless action and fan-service go for it. You might actually get enjoy the wonderful animation, that is if you don't blow your brains out halfway through due to the complete retardedness of all the characters.
(Alright I confess. As my first review, it was a little rushed. It's prolly been more than 3 years since I've watched it. During which I was half dazed, in awe of the animation, and half trying to blow my brains out from the god awful storyline/characters. So it's not as in depth, well put, and unbiased as I wanted. Having said that, I still hope you enjoyed reading review this as much as I did writing it.)
