Hello, welcome to the profile of a lonely Brno Otaku.
I'm a 19 year old student (of Psychology/ Informational Studies and Lybrarism), currently residing in Brno, Czech Republic.
My anime/ manga (especially manga. I'm a comic-freak) passions -
The imaginative weird shit
Ok, I don't know how to call this :P but I meant works that are imaginative to the point of incomprehenseble, quirky and interesting and even challenging sometimes.
And which demand a slight insanity at the side of the reader to truly enjoy (good examples: National quiz, Jojo's bizarre adventure, Japan Tengu Party)
The creepy wierd shit
I would say Guro, but this gets people confused. I'm interested in things that forcefully break the structure of storytelling or totally betray our expectations of what should happen in a story and make us slightly amazed and very, very scared. It's kind of the evil twin of Imaginative wierd shit (good examples: Works of Shintaro Kago and Jiro Matsumoto and Junji Ito)
Yuri
I can tolerate a lot (save for the moeblobs of doom) in this genre. I read it when its boring and formulaic. I just can't stop.
--plus, I'm always in for a good story and I try not to limit myself to certain genres. Those are just my favourites.
Rating
Rating for me is somehow subjective.
10 is reserved for titles that struck my heart. When this happens, I can overlook many shortcomings of a title, just because it's sort of my soulmate on paper <3
9 - an excellent series, I could recommend to most people
8 - very nice series, generally just a 'feeling' away from 9
7 - something in here just didn't click. Like everything was excellent, but the whole somehow just doesn't work that well as you would have guessed
6 - nothing exceptional, but still nice to watch
5 - average. And let me tell you - I hate average
1-4 - things I drop immediately
right now, I've decided to write a rewiev for at least 9/10 of manga I've rated with 10 points, that should keep me busy for a while :p

I find myself hankering after realism yet at the same time drawing back from some of the works mangaka like Miyamoto Kano come out with: I find I can't totally get rid of this niggling little bit of morality in the back of my head which insists that fetishizing gay men for my personal female libido in everyday yaoi is not absolutely okay, and that getting cathartic kicks out of the horrible real life dilemmas they go through on top of that (à la Miyamoto-sensei)? Is perhaps even worse. But then I go under again, and totally forget to care. My liberal guilt comes in waves, it seems.
I'm not saying there's no value in realistic yaoi, as there most certainly IS - I mean you're right about Miyamoto's characters, as I recognise them as human beings, and isn't that fantastic in this genre? - but what I am saying is that sometimes I get a little bit wary of some of them. And there's always something to be said, after vaguely homophobic subtext after vaguely homophobic subtext, for a yaoi mangaka letting their gay men be GAY. You know, it's not about their 'special person' or any CLAMP-ish rubbish like that, but they're actually really, truly gay or bisexual. I love that.
I'll admit to - ahem >_> - reading a couple of bara before, and let me say that trauma is a distinct possibility. While I really loved the more masculine, less noodly-limbed figures, I got a little shocked at the full-on, abrupt assaults, kinks, and forcefulness. I did not see my reaction coming! That's possibly because I'm a little bit of a secret prude underneath it all, perhaps? *g*

What I would have loved when I first began reading BL and yuri, I find I can stand less and less of nowadays. That feeling you were describing of shallowness is spot on: sometimes I read a manga and can see the human shapes wandering about, and am even given an explicit window into their inner self and motivations, and I can't recognise any sort of real human being in there. It's almost as if the hack (BL/yuri) mangaka themselves as a collective have evolved their characters to such an extent that they're different creatures; a separate species. Lord, I'm getting a little long-winded and arrogant there, but I hope you see what I mean. (Possibly? *g*) I suppose if what you want is to either emotionally involve or arouse your readership, then a kind of character shorthand is to be expected, but I've got to say it's getting harder to find the good ones now I can't switch off the 'excessively critical + high expectations' setting.
Still, that makes finding a really good BL/yuri mangaka so wonderful. I almost punched the air when I found Kunieda Saika.
Oh my god, Children of the Sea! Yes, I read about that on a manga blog, along with Ooku and Kimi ni Todoke, and I'm not ashamed to admit I squealed. I bought that 'Japan: 17 Creators' thing just for Daisuke Igarashi, as there's no mangaka that excites me more.
Partners is certainly interesting, if unrealistic in its own way. I like that it tries to get its homoeroticism in an entirely novel manner. I think? The body hair's not disturbing me as much as I thought it might - and neither is the leather, oddly enough! Dear lord, next I'll be downloading bara. (Note: this will probably happen.)
Apologies for the gargantuan comment.

What can I say, my tastes are all over the place. It's good to know that there are others out there with equally bizarre tastes. You can count me in the Kotonoha groupies clan as well, I keep checking the site and forum on a weekly basis for the tiniest of hopes that they won't stop translating such unique works.
I hope you find some interesting things in my list and if you don't mind, I think I'll inspect yours as well. : )

I didn't see the 'click' of Girl Friends coming either. Suddenly I was reading something that wasn't half bad; even if the characters were never going to exactly ring true as recognisable human girls (a recurring problem for me in yuri), there was definitely something *more* there that I hadn't expected to see. I'm just a leeeetle bit on tenterhooks for the next chapter.
Aoi Hana (<3) is the platonic ideal of seinen yuri for me. Kotonoha's ?????! status is worrying me more than a little, I'll admit, and not just for Aoi Hana: Pumpkin and Mayonnaise, Hourou Musuko and Hanashippanashi are all in my ongoing top ten as well. God, maybe it's time to learn Japanese. (<-- will never happen, haha)
God, the moe-blobs! I seriously curse the man (and it will have been a man) who kick-started the moe craze. Ick, ick.

Happy New Year to you, too!
The people at Lililicious have my undying respect for the last few days - and Mermaid Line has definitely been a surprise, even after reading about it on Okazu like you. I might have to rethink my knee-jerk hate-on for seinen yuri apart from Shimura Takako; ML is just so *pretty*, and it manages to be good quality in the storytelling/characterisation department even on top of that. The one I'm really looking forward to, though, is Gunjou, which Lililicious have just put in their Planned Projects section. I've had my fingers crossed for that one for absolutely ages!
Hee, all the New Years yaoi/yuri releases have made my week. It's certainly nice to know that whenever my family get a bit much I've got an impressively full downloads folder to retreat to for half an hour or so. :D

Hi there. Actually I didn't add that manga, just happened to be the first one to put it on my list. And yeah, it's always nice to find someone who likes both lol.
