Oh, that makes sense. I also wasn't sure about reading it over watching it multiple time, though in the end, my mind got twisted and I read it fairly quick.
I finally managed to watch the entire series - including the second part - in Japanese, and it gave me a completely different feel for me after dozens of times I had managed to watch it on TV and computer. I knew something in the anime told me what would happen in the manga - nudity, gore, less "love" action. After that, I found out how many FILLERS there were in the anime, though they were actually worth it for me!
