New Yorker by birth and inclination. My prefered genres are mecha and sci-fi, but my collection is fairly diverse. Other interests include sports (especially soccer, hockey, baseball), super-hero comics (esp. X-Men), history and politics.
A little aside on my list: I list series that I am 'converting' from fansubs to DVDs in the Plan to Watch section. These shows have been watched as you can tell by the episode tallies, at least in part, but will be re-watched when the DVDs are bought, but they are not physically 'in' my collection in any shape or form while they are in the Plan to Watch section of my list.

1. no hentai
2. fansubs for unlicensed series ONLY (one exception)
3. no tv series over 52 episodes long (one major exception)
4. no 'harem' shows
5. as few OVAs as possiable
6. for every sci-fi and mecha series added, one must be deleted (see my dropped list for the tough choices made in this area)
7. at least one representitative of each genre, except the two 'no-go' genres list in rules 1 and 4, must be in the collection at all times
8. no more than 65 series will be in the collection as DVDs at any one time.
These rules are self-imposed so that the collection doesn't get skewed towards the 'traditional' genres, quality is high, numbers of DVDs are low, and that the collection reflects how truly diverse, and yet how truly 'Japanese', anime is.

Would you mind recommending me some other anime classics to watch, that you thought were really good? As good as those two mentioned above, better, or even slightly close to their brilliance? -bows down before you in desperate hope- >.<

Hit and Miss as far as I was concerned. There are parts where I was very interested, but there were also parts where I was turned off. There is a lot of Violence and the themes of immortality are good, and the plot is good for stretches, but it never seems to put itself together.

Well the first season is the like fight.
kai is like taking it out after you've beat each other up.
some people prefer the first, some people prefer the second.
I personally had more fun watching the first, but I liked the idea and the thoughts of the second.

you should really put the animes you finished in the completed section instead of the dropped, it doesn't matter how many times you dropped it, but it wont show up in compatibility if you do.

I think you should check out the Read Or Die series.
It's epic. It's about paper masters, there isn't so much mecha, but you have good taste.
Higurashi and Red Garden too. It's amazing.

well it depends if you like anime that seems like it's meant for a younger audience. at first, i was skeptical about the plot, etc, but it turned out to be catchy. sometimes, though it seems like the story is rushed forward. give the first episode a shot and see for yourself. it all depends on your opinion.
