I like anime, but I'm not willing to jump into a series without first reading the synopsis. I try to avoid anime with a big hype behind it because I don't want to be forced to like it (shunned if end up hating it). Recently, it's been hard for me to get into a new series mainly because the first episode is always not captivating enough for me. My tastes tend to change from time to time and is usually dictated by the previous anime I've watched.
I like anime that are really colorful. I also like anime that capture nature very well.
I don't really like anime that are always dark and full of dead stuff, but only sometimes.
I don't rate specials or extras because...I don't really have any criteria to rate them on. My opinion is that scores are meant for things that are presented in heavy detail. I still need to update this to reflect my list, though.
About my lists: I have yet to rescore the Manga I have read so it may look really biased and whatnot. As for the anime list, I rate mostly on the positive side because I drop anime that doesn't interest me very early on. I can't really use the whole scale if I end up liking the anime.
Summary of how I rate anime (beta)
10: Very enjoyable: kept me at the edge of my seat, intricate plot; suitable ending: open ending allows watcher to analyze the anime with confidence, and conclusive ending tying up loose ends; animation, art, music worked very well together:detailed art but not too flashy, meaningful music; concise. So good that it leaves lasting impressions.
9: Also very enjoyable plot-wise; animation, art, music done excellently; ending could have been a bit more conclusive; not leaving as deep of an impression as a 10
8: Enjoyable; animation, art, music pretty nice, plot does not develop as much as a 10 or a 9 but nevertheless interesting; ending not done that well but overall better than a 7; may or may not leave an impression.
7: Something I would enjoy but would not prioritize watching; art less refined; not a large variety of sound; no noticeable outstanding quality in animation; interesting plot but more on the average side; ending that fails to answer lingering questions or prompt you to read the manga; does not leave an impression.
6: Something I picked up but mostly the plot could have been better/less predictable; generic art and animation, mostly repetitive sound effects; abrupt ending, if any.
5: Average, tries too hard to attract attention; uses too much time on summaries, leaving maybe only 15 minutes of what matters out of 22 minutes of allotted time; plot predictable; anything accompanying animation not very impressive; abrupt ending, if any.
4: Below average. Anime with generic plot but maybe good art or something. Nevertheless, lacks an attention grabber and significance.
3 - 1: Usually dropped because it did not grab my attention, or just poor execution. I don't really add these because maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea.
