Have you ever walked through your city in daylight and then at night? It's (literally) night and day. The nighttime can seem so fun - all of the different man-made lights, the tranquillity and the seeming freedom.
This is one feature in Call of the Night but there is a supernatural element: There are vampires. As in any other vampire story (I have actually never read/watched one), they suck on the blood of humans. But here, the humans don't immediately turn into a vampire. No, a special criterion has to be fulfilled. You have to be in love with said vampire. Indeed, the show also
...
considers such vampires offspring and the blood-sucking motion akin to sexual intercourse for vampires. And hey, almost all vampires are really cute!
Our main character Ko has one goal: He wants to become a vampire. He sees no meaning in life and doesn't feel like he has any friends, so maybe being a vampire can change his destiny. Also, being around the vampire Nazuna is pretty fun. In his journey, weird things concerning the nighttime happen but we also eventually discover that there actually are people who care about Ko. We gradually discover a little (but not much) more about vampires and kind of accompany Ko on the supernatural slice-of-life adventure.
The art style is really pretty! They did a great job portraying the night and the accompanying lights. I've actually never seen anything like it in anime. The story was actually a bit better than expected but eventually did get a little boring. When the heck does it register Ko as having fallen in love? In my books, he has done so a long time ago.
But it's definitely a different kind of slice-of-life.

Renting a girlfriend who turns out to be absolutely perfect and falling in love with her. Honestly doesn't seem too unlikely for a real-life story, as there will surely be quite desperate/lonely/depressed people among those who rent girlfriends.
This is already the second season of the story. While we still get the usual nuisance of Mami-Chan, there is also more development with Ruka and Sumi, both having fallen badly for Kazuya. The main focus of course remains on Kazuya and Chizuru where Kazuya invests a lot in understanding her acting dreams and tries to be personal in certain ways like leaving a birthday present.
It could be
...
somewhat sweet. But the fact that this guy is always absurdly horny just doesn't sit well with me, it's rather quite cringy. I wish we got a more bearable male MC. I understand that this is supposed to be one of these desperate guys but it's really hard to watch him.
Oh well, I wonder when Chizuru will open up a bit more with him - she is so distant after all. And we all know that they will become closer at some point. At least I would be extremely surprised otherwise.

Aincrad was and always will be by far the best part of SAO - and with it a legendary part of anime overall.
Yes, I said it and I mean it. I know that there are many people not happy with the first seasons of SAO but it's definitely part of my heart. The epic battles with solo player Kirito going on adventures with his eventual companions. The sweet and heartwarming scenes with Asuna, Kirito and Yui - how my heart flutters from thinking back to the scene at the cabin or the rabbit meat. The badass moments of Asuna. Kayaba Akihito as the end boss.
OK.
...
But why did Aincrad have to end so early on? That was such a pity! What would I give to see more scenes with Kirito and Asuna in Aincrad.
Hey. That's what SAO Progressive is about. It gives a lot more details about the Aincrad storyline and tells it from Asuna's point of view. This girl who is not a gamer and only accidentally entered the game needed to adapt to it and become the Flash that she will be. There is an interesting backstory with her and her real life friend Misumi, near-death experiences and her first encounters with Kirito.
Some parts seem not quite faithful with the way Asuna and Kirito got to see each other in the original series. They seem a lot closer a lot earlier on in the movie than they are portrayed in the series.
But nonetheless, more with Asuna and Kirito in Aincrad? I'm so thankful that they're finally adapting SAO Progressive!

Exaggeration is comedic. As is the case here. We're following a seemingly ordinary family which is far from ordinary. The father is the world's most renowned spy on a mission to protect world peace, the mother is an assassin killing people daily and the adopted daughter is a psychic who can read minds.
We're on this quest of getting the daughter Anya into this highly prestigious school and then to make her succeed in school all so that Loid Forger may fulfill his mission. This is coupled with ridiculous scenes from mother Yor beating up random people to protect Anya, to a totally overexaggerated entrance exam,
...
to a dodgeball tourney being a pun on your usual Shounen anime.
All of these ridiculous scenes just make it incredibly funny and the icing on the cake is the facial expressions by Anya which are just pure perfection. Her eyes are definitely too funny and she has a fitting expression for every situation.
On the other hand, storywise really not too much is happening and I would love to see more interaction from Yor. The last episode also felt a little lackluster with nothing special really happening.
I'm looking forward to the reveal (which will surely happen, right?) when Loid and Yor learn that Anya can read minds!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels scammed. They have the audacity of calling it the final season and then pumping out two parts - AND PART TWO IS NOT EVEN THE LAST ONE.
Who the heck are you trying to upset? That there will be a third part is absolutely ridiculous.
Anyhow, this season revealed some new stuff again and is setting up for the rumbling. That's what it mostly is: a set-up. Of course, it is still AoT and so the episodes are still all very beautiful and well-thought-out, though it was mostly quite slow because it is setting up for part
...
3. Eren's character development is definitely interesting and will probably remain so in the last (hopefully really the last) part.
If part 3 is not the last part, then...

This anime was funny, entertaining, heartwarming and heartbreaking. It is also actually one of the few anime I prefer English dubbed over subbed.
Kotaru is only 4 but speaks more eloquently than any ordinary adult. He moves into a building on his own because of a complicated relationship with his parents and absolutely comical events start happening from there. Kotaru is an understanding, clever and peculiar child acting more like an adult and immediately becomes great friends with all of his neighbours. We follow his life and certain hardships he goes through, the way he helps his adult friends and more.
I started watching this with a
...
friend and we were both surprised by how quickly the episodes seemed to go by even though each episode was 27 minutes long! It is really funny to look at the absurdity of some of these scenes or e.g. the iconic "hahaha" from the mangaka's boss. Some other scenes like those concerning Kotaru's past are also quite touching.
Absolutely recommended.

The main message of this anime is simple: You get so far with your passions and you should be proud of them no matter how obscure.
Underneath this point, we watch the beautiful relationship of Gojou and Marin which is at first as cliche as it may come. Gojou is this introverted shy guy without friends and loves making Hina dolls while Marin is basically a beautiful goddess who is outgoing and has numerous friends. Her passion, that nobody else in her friend circle gets, is cosplaying. By coincidence, she and Gojou meet and get close with Gojou making cosplay for Marin.
They become friends very quickly
...
and both their lives - especially Gojou's - change drastically. The extroverted Marin shows Gojou what it feels like to have a close (female) friend and also doesn't shy away from sexual jokes, as she is very confident in her skin (ok, who wouldn't be with these looks?).
This anime is not great because of its story but because of its characters. Marin is just the sweetest waifu out there, always being cheerful, up for jokes and fun and immediately providing a happy ambience. On the other hand, Gojou is your typical overcommitting main male character who would do anything for Marin and goes out of his way, sacrificing his sleep, to get everything done to make Marin happy. Without question, they slowly develop feelings for each other.
The art style takes a lot of attention to detail and e.g. explicitly draws out Marin's make-up and manicure which I have not seen anywhere else in anime. The animation is very smooth and you would sometimes feel like you were watching a movie.
Whenever you watch an anime like this, there is just one question in your head: Where is Marin in real life? And indeed. Where is she? Everyone needs a person like her in their lives.

I really never liked Demon Slayers - I found season 1 grotesque, the only thing decent being its animation. People were talking about the famous episode 19 - the episode that destroyed the internet. I racked myself through all these boring and illogical episodes up to episode 19. It was good but plot-wise quite underwhelming. The show didn't get better but screaming crybabies were added time and time after.
This season, however, pleasantly surprised me. It convinced even me, someone, who disliked the show. I was really looking forward to the next episode every week.
Well, the beginning was kind of lackluster but around the middle of
...
the season, the action starts coming and it becomes really enjoyable. Granted, Zenitsu being asleep helped.
Indeed, the design of the main enemy was freaking cool and diverse. As always, the Hashira was chill and even characters like Zenitsu were shining, but yeah, mainly because he was asleep. Nezuko was a star in this show, there is no question and the animation was just amazing.
On the other hand, I think the setting itself is not that interesting and really the only good thing is the action. I also absolutely dislike the power scaling - our three rookies are doing way too much for their inexperience, especially Tanjirou. Was Naruto able to take on Itachi in the first season? Of course, not. But in Demon Slayers, the scaling just seems off.
But the fights and demons were awesome and really makes us wonder: What will the stronger demons be like?

No Game No Life: Zero. No wonder this movie was kinda devoid of life. There were no games. Zero stands for the number of games.
This movie tells us the story of far in the past when the great wars reigned. It tells us how the humans, the least impressive species, managed to survive and how the world as we know it from the anime came to be.
The main characters are reminiscent of Sora and Shiro but there is not much depth to their characters. Maybe Sora and Shiro are supposed to be reincarnations of those two? I guess we'll see sometime in the future.
But
...
the movie itself was quite boring. It got a little better when Schwi was introduced but not much better. This movie just didn't have the appeal of the show: all those games were what made it fun! At least it kept the vibrant colors of the anime which was quite beautiful indeed.
The release of the movie is at least a good sign: Maybe there is hope for season 2 of the anime?

I suppose one can mainly view this as fanservice.
I welcome that, as I am a fan of the Seven Deadly Sins.
(There will be spoilers in this review.)
So indeed, the movie started way too slowly to give the viewers a scene with each of the main characters from the anime (minus Escanor :( ). They were cute moments but nothing more than that. It took about 20 minutes before anything really happened. And even then, not really something happens. Besides, we get to see an Attack on Titan scene - giants (titans) destroy tall wall, enter and cause destruction.
The power levels of the characters are
...
completely distorted for convenience. For example, there is no way that Meliodas and Zeldris should have lost the first fight. And how in the world is Mael struggling versus common goddess clan members?!
I wish Elizabeth would have done more, at least a little bit. This was the fight against the Supreme Deity after all. But that was not to be.
Also, where did the second fairy king and the giant craftsman dude come from? Admittingly, I don't remember all details from the anime but the world-building also seems changed. I don't think there were these demons in the demon realm before and where the hell do the goddesses come from?
The animation - while undoubtedly better than the last few anime seasons (that's not so difficult though...) - seems off. I mean the attack from Zeldris binding the Supreme Deity and turning the tide of the battle was a powerpoint slide.
Family is one theme in the story. It's mostly about the relationship of Meliodas and Zeldris and their brotherhood but it's also about the abymal relationship of Meliodas and Elizabeth with the Demon King and the Supreme Deity. All this is quite sweet.
It was a short movie and didn't really feel like a movie. But it was a fanservice nonetheless and again: I welcome that.
