As always, I recommend Angel Densetsu (precedes Claymore). Also, two good series that I have read about half way through and will start again are Busou Renkin (preceded by Rurouni Kenshin) and Groove Adventure Rave (precedes Fairy Tail). I have started watching the Busou Renkin anime, but the manga is better in my opinion.

hmmm I guess there are some similarities between Terra e... and LOTGH. Both are space operas that develop characters on both sides of a conflict, both have a lot of character deaths and both have some awesome music. Although Terra e... had more of a supernatural feel to it.
