My Internet alias is Jyakotu Kurayami, but you can call me Jya for short. Despite the cool and very Japanese sounding name, I'm just a typical guy like any other. Oh, and I'm Black. Lol, just throwing that out there. But anyway...
I've watched anime for as long as I can remember, probably starting at the age of 5 or 6. Of course, back then, I didn't know that Pokémon was called 'anime' and was made in Japan. But as I got older and became obsessed with Toonami on Cartoon Network, I was hooked on anime such as DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho. However, the anime that I remember fondly and still have a deep love for was Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.
Mecha is my absolute favorite genre of anime and it's a genre where I will give any anime labeled as this genre a far chance before I write it off. My other anime genre favorites are Romance/Romantic Comedy, Slice of Life, Seinen, School, Mystery, and Action. As you can see from my favorite genres, I like a little bit of everything. Out of all the anime that I've seen, the character that I love most is Dark Mousy from D.N.Angel.
I joined MAL mainly to keep track of the recent anime that I've been watching. My list will seem rather small compared to most seasoned members here, but that's only because I cannot really remember all of the anime that I have watched over the years. I've seen various anime form a variety of sources, including Toonami, Adult Swim, Syfy, Starz Edge, Kids WB, Fox Kids/Fox Box, and anime streaming sites with fan subs.
I'm more of an anime watcher than a manga reader, but I've read a few manga series. I prefer to read manga that don't have an anime series or an OVA. Truth be told, if I find out a manga has some type of anime or OVA, I'll choose to watch that instead, regardless if story elements are changed. That's just one of my quirks, the other being that I do not play video games based on anime series.
My other interests include video games, technology, cars, and fitness.

Your anime history sounds almost exactly like mine wow. I remember watching all those shows on toonami, I would have been in late elementary school while watching DBZ, Ruroni Kenshin, Gundam Wing and the like. Gundam Wing and Kenshin are both still in my top 10 anime even after watching quite a few more after that time period.
Gundam Wing is the only anime I've completely re-watched, besides Code Geass. I think I rewatched it 3 years ago, which sounds like a while ago (lets say it was Winter 2011) but I was probably watching the series as a kid around 1999-2000, so it had been a good 10 years since I watched it. I was surprised to find it still so enjoyable.
I think I tried to re-watch DBZ a few yaers ago, but I only made it to the snake way/king kai training arc haha. It just felt too long winded and I lost my patience I suppose. I've still re-watched numerous specific fights though.
We also like Mecha, and we're both black lol.
I also remember kids WB (Yu-Gi-Oh! Especially) and Fox Box/Fox Kids (First exposes to One Piece through this). I fucking loved watching Jakie Chan's Adventures on Kids WB haha, among other things.
