Having recieved the following " Club messaging has been disabled for now. This will likely return in the future." every time I try to message all club members. And after spending about an hour trying to find out if they even have an ETA on the return, I decided I have to do this the old fashioned way.
Time to nominate your favorite anime!
Rules are simple, nominate a single anime or second one that someone else has nominated.
You may nominate something you have nominated before, but not a previous winner.
Any finished anime series, movie, or finished OAV is eligible. Any anime series currently airing is not.
Please include a url link to the anime that you are nominating as occasionally the name is repeated, but the series are completely different (i.e. Macross).
This thread will remain open until 3 June 2012 and is located here.

Sorry for the late reply. How have you been ^^
I just finished Ranma season 3, and I gotta admit Shampoo began to grow on me, though her occasional 'Ranma, let's run away and get married' in front of Akane still grates on my nerves. In terms of romance I'm more of a supporter of Ryoga/Akane and Female Ranma/Kuno XD I love the new opener, though the one from the first season is still my favorite, and the ED is cute. My only gripe about this season is the abundance of the Happosai episodes, he's my least favorite character in the series for obvious reason.
BTW, have you read the Ranma manga? I intend to read it once I finish the anime since I heard the anime didn't cover the last seven or so volumes of the manga.
Wow, that's pretty hardcore! But I'm glad you ended up liking the movie after all you had to go through to watch it. You may also wanna see Gauche the Cellist by Isao Takahata, unfortunately, the movie isn't licensed yet and the only way to watch it is via a fansub, but it's still a nice movie. Also, for other Ghibli stuff that you haven't watched I can't recommend Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro enough.

I have After Story here and have been meaning to watch it for two days, but started to watch shorts instead and they took over my whole life!! ^_^ I will get back to Clannad now... Just one more short... ^_^
Planetes is slow going because I am watching it with my flatmate and she just expressed interest in finishing Kino's Journey... I will hound her for Planetes as soon as I can though! ^_^
I love Emily Dickinson! I'm pretty sure I mentioned Edward Gorey and I know I mention Gaiman, I also like Ayn Rand. I actually loved her when I was about 15 or 16, but then lost some of the passion, because I did too much research on her and got a little jaded. My flatmate is also a fan of hers, but we can't speak about her because flatmate is a devout Rand lover and I have some qualms, I still like her though and will always have a soft spot for John Galt.
Do you like/read a great deal of dystopian works? If so, you might like "We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin. It was the predecessor to 1984, Animal Farm and Brave New World; not to mention every novel Ayn Rand ever wrote. Another favourite if I haven't mentioned her yet is Shirley Jackson. She is most famous for The Haunting of Hill House, but personally I prefer The Sundial and We Have Always Lived in the Castle.

I had no idea Stuart David had written a book - I will absolutely find it and read it immediately (along with the "soundtrack" Up a Tree")! ^_^ Thank you for the recommendation!
To answer your question I have far too many favourite authors, but some of the greatest are: Neil Gaiman, Shaun Tan, Peter S Beagle, Ben Loory, David Mitchell, Murakami Haruki, Jane Austen & the Brontes, Audrey Niffenegger, Kawabata Yasunari, T.S. Eliot, Shikibu Murasaki, William Shakespeare, Tim O'Brien, Cao Xueqin, Dianna Wynne Jones, Ursular K. LeGuin, Shirley Jackson, Fyodor Dostoevsky, C.S. Lewis,Madeleine L'Engle, Freidrich Nietzsche, P.G. Wodehouse, Amy Tan, Anita Diamant, Edward Gorey, Jonathan Evison, James P. Othmer, James Morrow, anything dystopian or utopian, Cheng'en Wu, Virginia Woolf, Lewis Carroll.
A-hem... And that is just a taste... What about you?
I am watching Clannad right now and I LOVE it, but it's also making me cry! I am not usually a crier, but in the last two years I have noticed that I am much more sentimental then I ever have been before, so perhaps I am becoming one of the people who cries at silly, sentimental things. *Haha* There are worse things to become, I suppose. ^_^
I tried to watch the Ranma sub long ago, but no one could match the talent of Myriam Sirois, Sarah Strange, or even Venus Terzo. And that's only our protagonist's voice actors! There are extremely few dubs I consider to be worthwhile, but Ranma will always be at the top of my list!

You know what's odd is that I could have sworn up and down that not only have I seen Maison Ikkoku, but that I used to own it! I know there are SO many anime that I've left off my list (I only added Galaxy Express 999 last month after re-watching it with a friend), but my memory is so bad about these things and some of them I just can't remember what I feel for them.
Strangely, I am also not an avid manga reader (but a HUGE bookworm when it comes to fiction) and basically only read one shots (with the exception being YKK and ARIA/AQUA manga), but I began to read it after watching the first OAV and it really stuck with me. I love the feel of it and the world Alpha lives in. I want to live there almost as much as I want to live on Aqua.
The manga IS better in that there is more given to you in terms of character developments, new characters you don't see in the OAVs and just a greater range of depth. I haven't finished the manga yet so I can't comment on the ending, but the pace is wonderful and the feelings I get from it are relaxing and carefree.
I haven't read Saturn Apartments yet, but I read some good reviews for it the other day and planned on checking it out. I also REALLY need to spend some time with Planetes as I've only heard marvelous things and have liked ever so much what I've watched so far.
Please Save My Earth is VERY confusing without reading the manga (or spoilers, such as I did). The story isn't at all complete but it is still one of my favorites because of Shion's back story.
p.s. I'm sorry you lost your first Ranma to your ex. That's hard, but it does show dedication that you've bought it twice. Do you like the sub- or dubbed version? I know that is a kind of ridiculous thing to ask most anime fans, but I know a surprising amount of people who grew up with and prefer the English dub of Ranma, so it's always interesting to see what a person's take on it will be.
Funny, I just had a good experience with a dub earlier this month as well. Must be something in the air. I am normally a sub-only kind of otaku, but I do make exceptions for particularly special cases, such as these.
Hope I haven't put you off any!

So, you're a Ranma fan, eh? That is one of my favourites too! It's also one of the most nostalgic anime for me as it was one of the first I saw as a girl. I have very fond memories of laughing with my sister during that series. It's nice to see others who love it as much as I do. It also has one of my ultimate favourite OP songs!
Please Save My Earth is also high on the list and the ending theme will stay with me forever.
That's some collection you have by the way! I just began watching Mermaid Forest with the anime group I belong to and I am really enjoying seeing this new layer of Takahashi Rumiko's work!

Oh you should! It's really wonderful! If they made a series that was longer and it had the same feeling for the manga I think it would be really great!

Hmmm I've seen some series on Crunchyroll back when the site started some years ago and also another one on its French counterpart Wakanim but I must admit I've always had some difficulties watching a streaming for some reason (well, I did watch some fantastic South Park episodes in 1080p with virtually no buffering time back when it was still possible to see them for free on the official website - now limited to North American IPs only :/).
Anyway, regarding Claymore, it sure is a great series until the last 5 or so episodes when the story totally changes compared to the original material. I don't know if you read the manga but this part was handled much, much better and is still ongoing (there's a 7-year gap right after the events depicted in the anime).
And as true as I'm a huge fan of Ghibli and Takahata, I must admit Only Yesterday is probably one of the best if not the best of his movies (along with Pompoko). I really love the feelings of nostalgia and the return to nature that goes with Taeko's journey. Beautiful. By the way I watched Kokurikozaka Kara by Goro Miyazaki (his father made the script and produced it) on the big screen last week and I think you'll like it seeing your favorites. Very sweet and heartwarming movie too.
And then coming to Persona 4, in fact after I watched the first episode of the series and couldn't resist the urge to buy the game and finish it (that's why I have yet to catch up on the series :)). So that's what I did and I truly liked the game, the characters, the music etc... and I must say the studio is doing a great job adapting it, maybe too good a job because most people that haven't played the game seem to be a bit lost at the moment. The storyline is adapted stricto sensu, the dialogues are identical to the word, the music are the same as in the game (they're re-using the OST), the OP/ED are very similar to the original songs and even the voice actors are the same (the voices could even be taken directly from the game but I don't know for sure since I played the game in English). In terms of construction, they're going on a base of 2 completed social links per episode apparently plus the main story events of course and even some dungeon action. The only downsides are the art and animation which are not that good (chara-design is a bit strange too) but for the rest you can't ask for a more faithful adaptation !

Hey, nice to meet you too !
It seems Special A wasn't that bad of a series but I had got a lot of things at the time it was released so I never really let the show a chance. Then time passed on and I totally forgot about it until you just reminded me ;) Well, if you're dropping it after the first ep I guess it's not better than what I remember.

I just finished season 2. What I like the most about the series is that there are no crappy fillers sop far, well, except maybe for the episode with Tofu's mother and the one with the bath house. I assume that they were fillers because they were the weakest episodes so far. I plan on checking the manga to make comparisons with the anime once I finish it :D Also, amusingly enough, I expected to like Shampoo and hate Akane since I heard a lot of bad things about the latter, but what happened is the opposite and Akane is becoming my favorite heroine from a Rumiko series next to Kyoko. My other favorites include Kuno (I love his interaction with female Ranma), Nabiki, Cologne, Ryoga and the parents.
LOL! The one anime soundtrack that I've been obsessed with to the point of hunting all the CDs that I could get my hands on is Revolutionary Girl Utena. I'm also a big fan of Yuki Kajiura (the one who did the music for .hack, Mai-Hime and Mai-Otome) to the point of buying all the soundtracks of animes that she worked on that I've never watched. I also love Yoko Kanno's work on Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in a Shell.
I'm enjoying the music from Ranma and it has one of the most memorable soundtracks that I came across in recent years. The first opening song is one of my favorite anime openers ever.
