Well, the great thing about Lucky Star is that it bases most of its jokes on relate-able topics like popular culture, food, family lifestyle and anime references.
The anime references alot of anime titles, like Code Geass, Gurren Lagann, Keroro Gunsou, Gundam, Dragon Ball, Neon Genesis, Macross, etc. so maybe a generalized idea of these titles would be a good start.
If you're looking for an anime similar to Lucky Star, I'd have to reccomend Azumanga Daioh, Pani Poni Dash, Ghost Stories (eng dub), or Gintama.
But if you're not really into the sitcom format anime im sure you won't find it as enjoying as some of us have.
Yeah, I know. Eventually will have more t.v. series under my belt, just spent a lot of time catching up on anime I missed in the 90s. Got a crap load of recent 2000-2008 titles that I am going to be watching over this year.

Ecchi: aki sora, kiss x sis, to love ru (don't forget the ovas), girls bravo, seikerei, qwasar, dragonaut: the resonance, kanokon, queen's blade, fight ippatsu juuden-chan, kampfer
Don't watch lucky star will you've seen about 150-200 anime, you won't catch half the jokes.
