Welcome to MAL :) I'm new too, but I'm a social studies student so I pay a lot of attention to people's attitudes wherever I go, so I picked up on the "mood" of these forums pretty quickly. From what I have seen, people here generally have a pretty abrasive sense of humor, and there is very little tolerance for the "I'm new, I don't know my way around" excuse. There is a lot of sarcasm and mild verbal abuse to be had if you don't take the time to read and understand rules properly, which I know from experience lol. But I've also noticed that people who have been highly active here for a while (I'm talking people who have been here for years who have thousands of posts) tend to be able to have their way without being called out on it more often, e.g. they're able to engage in mild verbal abuse, mild trolling, derailing threads, simply because they're old timers and are usually backed up by other old timers. But don't let that stop you from having a good time, just don't take negative comments to heart, read and understand the forum rules carefully and you should be good to go. Sorry for the long ass post, in short I hope we didn't scare you off because we can always use some fresh faces around here :)
