A group of little girls with big guns is not uncommon in anime. This series focuses mainly on "Girl" rather than "Gunslinger".
This short series is all about its characters. It revolves (no pun intended) around members of specialized division experimenting with cybernetic enhancements for military purposes. But these cyborgs are young girls and that means a lot of emotions. Every girl has a handler and every handler-cyborg relationship is unique. Plot takes place in Italy.
There is not really much of a story, everything is about the characters, their emotions and ways they are dealing with their problems. If you are intrigued by the title, know
...
that action just happens to be there. It serves mainly as a reason for girls and other members of division to react and think about the way their life is.
In the end I think Gunslinger Girl is typical quiet, philosophical and melancholic anime series with a hint of action and classical music.

Lovable and interesting characters, passionate martial art, great humor and cat cameos. Bamboo Blade has it all.
Kendo instructor at Muroe highschool, Ishida, has a hard time to pay his bills, when his old friend and coleague offers to pay for his sushi for one whole year. That is if his team wins at a friendly tournament. If only there were more than one loyal captain and the other that has not showed up in a while. To win, he would need a miracle. A big miracle. A miracle that, say, easily deflects dangerous stray tennis ball. And baseball... aaand a rugby ball. And principal falling
...
from the third floor back up. With a broom.
Do you like kendo? Well this anime is for you! Do you at least know, what kendo is? You might enjoy this series. Have you got absolutely no idea what that thing even is? This show may entertain you anyway. Maybe you will even grow to love this honorable yet energetic art.
I recently watched Bamboo Blade second time after not having seen it in a long time. And I enjoyed falling in love with both kendo and splendid characters. Enthusiastic and always cheerful captain Kirino is my most favourite, although I realized that her bestie, passionate but often distracted Saya is my spirit animal (or should I say anime - AHAHA... maybe I shouldn't... ahem). Even though you are bound to have favourite characters, others are not far behind. Ethereal beauty, with the fierce beast inside her Miya-Miya, bespectacled Asuna, who is clumsy until she grabs her bamboo sword, then she is worhty oponent. An of course, brave captain - tiny and quiet Tamaki, who beats teachers in one blow and then goes to get a bento lunch.
Theme of this anime is not only kendo, but love for anything that you do with passion and for the good reasons. Something that you and your friends can enjoy. It also has great character development and the action scenes, man should I even start. It those moments where there is silence between crucial blow and referees resolution that makes your breath stop.
And finaly humor has all the good anime stuff, super deform, cats and some meta jokes and fourth wall breaks.
I hope you enjoy this show as much as I did. It is one of my favourite. I even love trailer made by funimation. Watch it, have fun and never give up :D

This beautifully drawn anime will get you right in the heart. Just like Kuriyama at the very beginning. This show made me go "Whuuuuut?!" in only first two minutes, after that I was in!
The story of gifted young lady, who happens to be Spirit Warrior with unusual powers, that run in her family. She can use her blood to form a weapon or incapacitate her opponents. However, she is last of her family and is considered to be cursed. When she meets Akihito, who turns out to be kinda immortal due to his mom being a demon, things are gonna change. And we all hope
...
that for the better.
This action supernatural romantic comedy, apart from being really nicely drawn, has good comedy, impressive action scenes and interesting mythology. Suspence and plot twist will get you, and you will root for the main couple, if you are a fan of the genre... of any of the genre included.
My personal favourite, is the episode, where they are hunting the paranoid leaky spirit on the roof. It is hillarious!
Anime is mainly focused on characters, so If you expect lot of action... you might be satisfied, but it really isn't the main theme here. I have to point pout great soundtrack, too. Opening and ending song were bound to end up on my mp3 player almost from the fisrt time I heard them. Also original music for the show is beautiful.
There you go! Kyoukai no Kanata might bw one of many pieces of this specific genre so familliar to any anime enthusiast. But it is in many ways outstanding anime. I highly recommend it.

Sharper than Scottish sword and more explosive than Claymore mine! This series and its charming yet deadly protagonist knows what it's doing. Although I would be extra careful with phrases "Don't lose your head", "Give me a hand" and "Are you pulling my leg"... cause it can be taken literally.
I don't know how many swimming pools of ketchup and grape juice would be spent if this was a live action show, but I have a feeling that it would be a lot. Amazingly inaccurate but even more hilarious bloody equivalents of oil well makes you either stare at screen with half smiling opened mouth or
...
just yell "Yeeeaaah" and enjoy the adrenalin. This show doesn't screw around with its action sequences. Blood, gore and limbs fall as snow on Christmas and shocking scenes of several ends of human anatomy being chopped off sometimes resemble George R. R. Martins sudden twists.
It might seem like an overused formula at the very beginning. Monster hunter meets a boy and they travel together, learning things about themselves and growing closer with every adventure. But it's so much more than that. Episode by episode we learn more about mythology of Claymore world, silver eyed witches, rules that they need to abide, and what happens, when they don't. Claymores has a lot in common with Sapkowskis witchers and little something with Grey Wardens from Dragon Age series. The mythology is beautifully complex.
I started watching it in original Japanese and even though I enjoyed voice of Romi Paku in role of Teresa and got excited by recognizing Narutos voice in one of side characters, I switched to English dubbing. Dramatical acting of American cast is just breathtaking. Soft voices in quiet emotional scenes as well as intense heartbreaking screams of fighters being stripped of their humanity to become an Awakened beings.
Also props to making a lot of characters a lot more than you would expect. It is quite common in anime for even villains to have their reasons why they turned to the dark side. They are not evil, because they want to be. There are traumas and soul-crushing tragedies behind that evil persona.
Even though at times I had to force myself to watch it, I'm glad I had privilege to see and experience Claymore. It is an exceptional anime, with complex characters, hard-core messy infinite-blood-mod action and great emotional character interactions. William Wallace would be proud, Geralt would be jealous... and interested. And viewers satisfied.
