The % ratings in the tag section mean a score (let's say a 7 in this example) is:
weak (65-67%)
decent (68-69%)
solid (70-71%)
strong (72-74%)
10's are therefore only 95% or higher, that is intented to set them further apart.

I rate in reference to my enjoyment of a series. I like a lot of genres, but I like some more or less than others. This will influence my rating in various ways. But I do believe that within a genre you can talk about quality to some degree that is not purely subjective, and believe my ratings to reflect that in the majority of the cases. Quality is, after all, more enjoyable and as I said my ratings are based on enjoyment.

As for the rating distribution, I think neither having an average of 5 nor using only ratings of 7 or higher are very intelligent. In one case you are not making your list useful for anyone who wants to know your taste in detail, let's say for a recommendation. In the other case it just shows that you don't properly research the anime you watch if half of them are rated 5 or lower. It's not that hard to figure out which genres or tropes you want to avoid, unless you specifically watch certain shows to be able to downrate them or you are on some kind of mission to review anime like roriconfan.

I don't watch any series I don't expect to at least have a 50% chance of being at least a 6/10 for me. Depending on the genre and the information I have the expectations might be considerable higher, but that's not the point. If a show slips below the 6/10 mark within the first couple of episodes, I will most likely drop it, unless it's a 3-min/episode show. That can be because I misjudged a series, was misinformed about the genre combination or the execution is just REALLY bad. It usually happens with 1-2 series each season.

Depending on the genre I might also drop a series that holds its ground just slightly above the 6/10 mark after a longer while. But mostly I'd continue and finish them if they have less than 26 episodes. If they have more they may go On-Hold for a while. If they get worse they'll get dropped, unless I'm really close to finishing them.

In that manner everything that is rated 6 or higher is in the enjoyable side of things. They may also have annoying elements, but the enjoyable ones prevail. Of course the higher you go up the ladder the purer the enjoyment was for me. A 10 is a series that happily let's me admit I'm a fanboy of it. Except LOGH and Bebop they are all highly subjective ;)

Stuff that is rated 3-5 was overall not enjoyable. They may have been at some point, but then drastically went down the drain or I just kept watching to see the trainwreck. Also a bunch of movies and shorts have that rating, because I never drop those.

2 and 1 Ratings are mostly for hate purposes (and Mars of Destruction) and you'll only find them on my dropped list, even if they only have 1 episode.

Chihayafuru 16 - Meh, recap episode. The new bits here and there were hilarious though, so overall it felt worth it to watch ^^

Arata Kangatari 5 & 6 - Ok, 5 was a continuation of blerghness pretty much, but episode 6 was actually pretty cool! Definitely more of this please. And somehow it felt like the soundtrack made more of an impact in episode 6 as well, so who knows? This may end up being a pretty alright show after all :D

Karneval 6 - The end of this episode was also really good. Returning to its true potential, hopefully?? </probably not with another half-cour to go> I'm continuing to greatly enjoy the character designs though. Very nice.

Karneval 4 & 5 - Hmm, feels like this show's taken a slight dip after the joys of episode 3, but it's still enjoyable for sure. I'm loving Yogi being cool, but I really miss those little sheep/goat things already xD Onwards and, ahem, upwards~

Arata Kangatari 4 - I really, really don't see who they're going to pull together a satisfactory story in the remaining episodes. :s An alright episode though, so I guess we'll see how things go.

Azazel-san Z.5 - YESSSSSSSSSSSSS, I'm so happy to hear Kobayashi Yuu-san again *3* I don't quite remember what her character's powers are though - I know it's jealousy-related somehow? Errrr. Can't be bothered to look it up since it doesn't really affect the story much lol. Seems to be as though she causes people she's jealous of to reveal some kind of deep truth *le shrug* Anyway! Always looking forward to the next episode.

HxH 77 - Already this feels a lot more epic than the start of this arc in the manga. I think they actually missed a little bit out to improve pacing?? I think Gon and Killua went round with Kite discovering new species for a bit before this part happened. Good change, I think. :3

Azazel-san Z.4 - That new demon is actually kind of cute in a really weird way xD I like him a lot.

Arata Kangatari 2 - Yeah, pretty annoying is the correct phrase. Still, I actually liked this a teensy bit better than the first episode, if only because we got to see that the two Aratas can communicate. Sometimes. xD I'm still craving answers that the show isn't giving though, like are they actually physically swapped and the perceptions/history of the people in the two worlds have changed, or are they just mentally swapped and somehow see themselves as who they used to be? I find this unnecessarily confusing. Hoping they clarify it soon.

Chihayafuru 2.12 - YEP, STILL LOVING ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW.
Megumu is really interesting >3< Though, is it bad that I don't really remember her from season 1? ^^;; I feel like I should remember her better than I do. But oh well! Good to see Arata and Shinobu around recently as well~

Chihayafuru 2.8 - WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, after such a long break I'm falling in love completely all over again! <3 <3 The 'foreigner' team was ADORABLE and I loved how they were all actually Japanese XD Chihayafuru really is a cut above the rest in these little life touches.

I really hope you can keep up with some shows in Ecuador too~ ^^ Hope it's not TOO hot there as well, haha... </can't cope with heat>

Zetsuen no Tempest 23 - THIS IS A GOOD PLAN, ACTUALLY. Go Mahiro! The exchange underwater was particularly smooth/clever. Have I mentioned how much of a Tetsuma fan I am? I'm a huge Tetsuma fan. He's my favourite character even though he barely has any screen time. XD I can't fully explain it - he's a PRECIOUS SWEETIE and I love him. xD Anyway. Great episode imo - let's see how the finale is. I have no doubt that Yoshino's gonna survive - they've been insisting so heavily that this is The Tempest and not Hamlet that I can't see him dying now. IF HE DID then that would be a twist, certainly!

ZnT 24 - I feel like I missed something. Who the fuck were those ninjas and what was that giant sword XD Wut. Yeah, as you say, overall a pretty standard ending episode - I was kind of expecting just one extra little tiny twist from Aika's message, but nope.
To be brutally honest I would've given this show a 7 (a high 7 though!), but I enjoyed episode 23 so much (I know you're not a Hanemura fan but I don't mind him/even somewhat like him) and Tetsuma is so fucking precious all the time that it gains an extra 1% to push it to my lowest 8 (78%). ^w^ So yep, this really was a good show for the most part, though as you so rightly said the middle bits and the nonsense romance did it zero favours. The dialogue was good, the themes were good, the psychological battles were really good, the animation was great, the characters were good... etc etc. Glad you encouraged me to watch this at the start! :D
