When i had heard that they were planning to release movies under the Berserk name, i was very excited to say the least. i had never expected them to pick up berserk again since the anime ran quite a long time ago. i had originally thought that the movies would continue the brutal ending of the anime as the show really left you on a cliffhanger making you want a lot more, however thats not what this movie is.
this ova, as im sure the other two are going to be, are retellings of the series that had already had an anime adaptation, kinda like dragonball
...
did with the path to power movie (if you know what im talking about). i was a bit disappointed with this, but dont think in any way that this is going to effect my rating of this movie. i plan on rating this movie with a few things in mind. one way is by comparison to the original anime, and second, as someone would expect going into this movie without any previous knowledge of the berserk series.
right off the bat as i first started watching the movie, i had noticed something that would bother and distract me throughout the entire movie. the animation. the original berserk series had amazing hand drawn art to it with a gritty feel from the colors they used. within the first second of this movie i thought i was watching someone play a bad cross between diablo and the sims. i hate, hate, hate, this new idea of adding random 3d rendering to anime that would otherwise look great without it. i just dont understand the reasoning, except for laziness and cutting costs. it in no way adds to the artistic design or overall atmosphere of the movie, but instead distracts you and makes you realized how much or a drastic difference there is between the amazing hand drawn portions and the crummy 3d renders. maybe your someone who doesnt have a problem with this kind of animation, but to me its terrible, especially when comparing to the original. the only part that had 3d rendering to me that was decent was zodd, because they stylized him in a cool way at least.
for the story, what your getting is a watered down quick version of the series most important parts. the characters also have slightly different personalities, namely griffith who has been feminized to the extreme. yes, he was slightly feminine in the original, but not this much. not a terrible thing but just mentioning that he is different. alot of the scenes just dont flow well either, where in one scene you have something that is dark and should leave a lasting affect on the viewer, and then quickly cuts to something completely different leaving no time for a lasting impression. your also not going to get any deep character development in this short amount of time.
overall, i would have to say that this movie was a bit disappointing, and i know that if this is how i was introduced to berserk, i would not have liked it. the hand drawing is very nice, but the laziness of the animators using the rendering shows that they could have tried a lot harder. im hoping the next ones will be better

I must say that i enjoyed the Rozen maiden series (including traumund), however, this 2 episode special is my favorite piece of rozen maiden out of the entire series.
While the original two seasons completed the story very well, it never goes into detail into suigintou's past. This special really helps the viewer understand the tragic turmoil that suigintou went through, at the hands of shinku. once i finished this special it is worth noting that the way i viewed both shinku and suigintou changed dramatically, and thats a good thing. deep psychological problems exist between the two, and this special really points it out well,

else can i say, if you love rozen maiden then you will definately love this

Ok where to begin, first of all this is the third part of a series of OVA's and by far the furthest in terms of reality of the three. while i wrote a review for pico to chico, the second OVA, i had mentioned that it was not as realistic as the first, which was kinda a disappointment personally. after watching pico x coco x chico, i realized that this series has evolved into a completely fantasy realm, not that that is bad really, but its just far different from what i would have originally expected going into the series. now another point that i
...
had noticed was they seemed to have done a better job with the music this time around, i mean im not a fan of jpop in the first place but the opening in this one was actually pretty catchy, minor detail i know but i might as well say it now before i forget. on to the show!, or OVA...
im not going to go through the entire plot as im not a big fan of reviews that do that, but i will say that i enjoyed the idea that pico was jacking off to coco thinking she was a girl and then at the last moment right before climax realizes she has a dick. i like stuff like that dont really know why, it would have been a lot more interesting though if we didnt already know that pico is gay/bi, but it was still a nice touch. the sex scenes in this OVA are of coarse phenomenal. i really enjoy natural high in terms of just sex scenes alone, they really know what their doing when it comes to that department. the only complaint i would have about this OVA is that it is definitely the least plot oriented of the three films, which is kinda a bummer knowing that their really arnt that many hentai in general that do have well written story (from what ive seen), and to see the pico series devolve into an all out sex orgy,,, i dont know how to feel about it. i mean like i said natural highs sex scenes are really great and the final sex scene in this OVA was definitely worth a watch, but at the same time i miss the highly emotional atmosphere and dialogue that the first OVA had. Overall worth watching

While watching pico to chico, multiple points came to mind with how it stacks up against the original Boku no Pico. Firstly i would like to point out that i dont understand why this had to be a sequel to boku no pico, as the only similarity it the character pico. This shota, to me, could have stood on its own without being a sequel and i think making it a sequel screws with the points of the original way to much. firstly in the original pico falls deeply in love with tamotsu, and it ends on a note of them wanting to be together,
...
so why would he want to form a sexual relationship with this new boy chico? but i digress,
i would also like to point out that while the original had a much more story driven element to it, while this ova seemed to be more fanservice than anything. now im not saying this is bad necessarily, because the scenes in this movie are highly erotic and enjoyable as a whole, and i do enjoy raunchy hentai as well as story driven hentai. Im only bringing it up for the fact that, the original had themes in it that made it to me, probably the best shota anime in the field today. The themes of pico having gender based developmental identity disorder, and the psychological factors present in it make it much deeper than any old hentai. Even the main character tamotsu had dealt with some gender identity problems, albeit for a few seconds, once realizing that pico was indeed a boy and not a girl, BUT I DIGRESS,,,,,
This is another point why i beleive pico to chico should have been its own series, as it is still very very good. but in a different way. also i enjoyed the setting of the scenes and how things played out as a whole. so i beleive goldenboy, (the company that had made both shota), knows how to appeal to their audience, but they shouldnt put characters in situations that dont make sense for them to be in for the sake of fanservice.
overall this shota is probably the second best ive seen from goldenboy, the more i see from goldenboy the more i like what they're doing, so if your into shota you should give this a try, but the original is much better

SM kurokun is one of those hentai that is enjoyable, but does not leave any lasting effects on the viewer. once its over i just feel like i watched a slightly enjoyable, but throwaway OVA, with characters and plot that have no development. i much more enjoyed boku no pico, another anime OVA created by the same studio, but hey i guess its a matter of opinion.
