Picked up some pretty bad habits during my gap year. However, intense need to watch anime was not one of them. Currently at university, and it looks like this habit isn't about to wear out any time soon.
There are two things that make an anime (or any work of art) great in my opinion: strong sense of characters and a plotline that makes you think. Combine these with decent animation and a good soundtrack, and you've got a winner.
As for personal favourites, can't go without mentioning Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Hellsing Ultimate and Monster.
