Hello there~ I enjoyed your review of Haikyuu (which is one of my all-time favorite anime <3) and was desperately searching for another great sports anime when I came across your recommendation for Baby Steps. I'm looking forward to checking out that series. :)
Haha there was actually an episode crossover of Gintama and Sket dance, pretty good. Anime is episodic, but characters are fun to watch and get emotional in each different character back story as well. The tease of romance is something I like in the show as well.
David Production is currently adapting the fourth part of the original manga (Diamond is Unbreakable) so they still have a long way to go. And I think that the fourth part is the best one to understand why JoJo is great. Another thing to say is JoJo is, besides being innovative for the shounen genre, also being innovative between the parts : even though several characters appear in several parts, the series still changes its own tropes regularly. It means that the seventh part (Steel Ball Run) is actually really different from the rest, and actually corrects the flaws of the previous parts. I can only advice you the manga, but if you aren't a manga reader, I guess I can't force you at all: and I think David Production does a great work in adapting the original material, so it's not that much of a problem.
First of all, if you actually want to do a good review of JJBA, I strongly advice you to read all the parts beforehand, to actually understand how JJBA works. It means that nobody actually cares about the JJBA's plot, at least during parts I & II. They're introduction parts, and JoJo actually gets really great when DiU (part IV) begins. I know it doesn't excuse the fact that JJBA's part I & II do have weaknesses, but the fact that they're not to be taken individually really matters here.
And I actually don't understand, you used several times the word 'generic', and I felt like you used it as a synonym of 'bad' whereas it's actually not. 'Generic' is not something bad, it just means that the first parts of JJBA are shounen, and use tropes frequently used in the action/shounen genre. Besides, if you think about the fact that PB and BT have been published in manga between 1986 and 1989, you'll actually state that they were actually innovative when they aired.
One must also admit that the animation is not bad at all for a small studio like David Production: they actually found enough tricks to hide that lack of budget and those tricks actually work, as I don't think you've been bored while watching it. It doesn't have many sakugas, but I don't think judging JJBA's animation based on the number of sakugas is a good way to proceed. It means that JJBA is not greatly animated, but is dynamic. They kept kind of a "motion comic" factor, which is really enjoyable.
I thought Fall was surprisingly good. Sure, OPM overshadowed everything else, but generally the season had some good surprises and Noragami is always a plus.
I was SO FUCKING HYPE for the Working!!! OVA! I could barely contain myself when it finally came up!
