I LIVE IN AMERICA. EVERYONE IS SUPPOSED TO SPEAK ENGLISH. SCREW ALL OTHER LANGUAGES.
In terms of difficulty, I don't find Mandarin to be much better. Quite the contrary, rather. Mandarin features a multitude of distinct sounds, and tones are used to distinguish words that are otherwise very similar sounding to the average American. I've always found Chinese to be difficult in that regard, especially since I am used to speaking in a rather monotonous voice.
I think this is just a phase male college students go through at one point or another.

I almost regret not taking Mandarin in high school and I find it a waste to take it now since I'm not required to take foreign language courses. I took Japanese in high school and I can honestly say that it is one of the most incredibly impractical languages to learn, considering it has almost zero uses in the US. Three years and I don't even know enough to hold more than a twenty second conversation.
As for Mandarin, I'll admit I'm not particularly interested in it as a language either. I just happen to have a newly discovered fetish for fobby Chinese girls. It's the strangest thing considering that up until a few months ago, I had little to no interest in 3D women in general, and I never would have imagined I'd be attracted to Asian girls. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME.
