This movie is truly one of, if not the, best war films ever made. It shows the true results of war, and it's pointlessness. I didn't want to see this movie when I first saw the preview, because it looked very depressing. Luckily, something compelled me to watch it, and it was indeed depressing, but beautiful at the same time. Even I, one of the least emotional people ever, was moved to tears by the end. This is the only movie that succeeded in making me bawl my eyes out. As for Seita's character, I had sympathy for him, but anger at the same time. If he had not been so stubborn and bull-headed, things might not have turned out as they did. But as far as the story that is my only complaint. If you are considering watching this movie, may I kindly reccomend the original Japanese. The English dub isn't horrible, but Setsuko's voice may ruin it for you, seeing that she sounds like an old lady suffering from constipation. This movie touched me on so many levels, it made me truly question what can posess people to go to war. It makes you realize that you are only affecting the innocent people of the world. read more
