Ok, since there are no other reviews, I thought I'd give it a go. "FMA: Chibi Party" is really not an OVA that's all about the story, art, or sound - it's just supposed to be random and funny - a bit like a blooper reel.
It's a 6 minute animation that takes place on the studio lot right after "FMA: The Conqueror of Shambala" has supposedly finished shooting. All the characters from the film (and others from the series) show up at the after party for drinks and debauchery.
There is little to nothing in the way of a plot here. You're just enjoying watching the characters interact in a different way than you would have during the course of the film or series.
If you were a fan of the characters in the series and enjoyed "The Conqueror of Shambala" then you will probably enjoy this OVA - it's fun. And when you know all the characters like they're your friends, it's hilarious.
If you haven't watched "The Conqueror of Shambala", then there are a lot of moments which just won't make sense and you won't find funny. If you were not a fan of the characters in the series or you did not like the sillier episodes from the series, then this OVA may not be for you.
I lol'd a number of times watching this short and to me, a fan of the movie and the series, it was great. It was as close as I'll ever get to kicking back a couple of beers with my drunk stupid friends from the FMA universe. read more

This is nothing like your typical anime - so really dispose of any preconceived notions because you're not going to get what you expect.
At first the series is very similar to your standard Shoujo anime. The main character is a cannonball of humor and humanity - not a dainty wussy female heroine. She's someone a real female can relate to.
Visually, as the anime progresses, it delves deeper into an avant-garde style of presentation. It becomes less of an animated series and more an experiment in visual storytelling. I actually appreciated this aspect of the series and looked forward to seeing how the story would be told in each episode. From the popsicle stick figures, cityscapes, flashing images, sketch book drawings, etc. everything was very different and very interesting to watch.
The story itself is great - it branches off gracefully from the stories of our two main characters as they progress in high school and develop into adulthood.
The behind the scenes problems led to a number of useless recap fillers and a hanging final episode. I presume there was the intention of continuing beyond 26 episodes because the final episode does nothing to wrap up any loose ends (although it seems that most shoujo I've watched ends up with a mediocre or unsatisfying ending anyway.) The bright side is that the manga continues well beyond this final episode and any individual who desperately wants to know how all these fantastic and complex characters will end up is able to read on to a very satisfactory and complete ending.
Understanding that this is incomplete, experimental, and yet totally emotionally captivating this series is recommended. read more

I was caught off guard with this anime. I enjoy many things vampire, but for some reason the plot description didn't appeal to me. When I finally sat down and just watched it, I couldn't stop. I never read the manga, but I tend to be curious and often let down by many action based shojo anime series. I was not disappointed by Vampire Knight.
Yuuki, the heroine has her schoolgirl crush, but by no means is she a weakling and it's nice to have a female character who has romantic interests, but is not solely interested in the life of her crush. She's got her own fears, but will stand up and fight for the sake of another - be it a romantic interest or otherwise.
I loved the complex and confusing relationships between the three main characters - they can be frustrating but at the same time, realistic (well as realistic as you can get within the setting.) In that sense, Kaname is one of the stand out characters of the series - he's all at once the knight in shining armor and the solitary soul filled to the brim with suffering that we can only barely begin to comprehend. Zero is also interesting and frustrating, we watch him weave between a brotherly role and his obvious love for Yuuki because he is too blinded by his own rage and self hate to pull himself together.
The plot is interesting and the secondary characters add humor and movement, but this truly is a character driven anime that lunges into each episode based on the characters. I had no problems with the art or animation and never found it distracting either for it's beauty or lack thereof. I enjoyed the opening and closing music - very pop goth. The closing titles, music and animation were among my favorite of any anime series. Very cool.
I was very pleased that these characters were not overly coy - without being sexual or overtly graphic, there is a constant undercurrent of sensuality and physicality between all our main characters which adds to the intensity of this anime. I look forward to the next chapter that Vampire Knight holds for us. read more
