A super-'nerd' but not a 'geek', in a some ways I'm an 'otaku', and while I don't read much manga (but have read many doujinshi) I'm open to interact with anyone about anything.
@ 'Nerd' ... although I am a computer nerd by life & profession I do not like to 'discuss' computers (I have a difficult time talking about it, I'd rather 'do it' without much dialogue). However, I do enjoy intellectual and stimulating conversation ... usually about life, love, philosophy, religion, psychology, perception, relationships, sex, wine, fashion (women's fashion preferrably), photography, travelling, art in general, and technology (gadgets & news).
@ 'Geek' ... I'm not socially inept, and believe that those who are and "claim" to be intelligent usually aren't as intelligent as they delude, they merely hide behind a mask of 'intelligence' because they are afraid and insecure about life and / or love.
@ 'Otaku' ... I watch a lot of anime. A lot more than even most japanese people, the sheer volume in many people's eyes would make me an 'otaku'. However, I don't have many otaku habits. For example, I don't collect PVC figurines, posters, or anything of the like. I don't play anime video games (or any video games for that matter). Also, since I watch anime at a very high rate (26+ episodes per day), I retain very little about them. Therefore, I don't know many facts about an anime (character names, history, publisher, voice actor, etc). I couldn't tell you my emotional reaction to 'Elfen Lied' even though it's one of my favorites, nor 'Akira' although I've seen it more than ten times.
I simply, don't remember and don't find 'why' I liked it so much to be important (to me, only the fact that I liked it so much is important and if I feel like remembering 'why', I'll watch it again). So everytime I re-watch an anime, it's in ways like watching it for the first time. In the end, I'm more of an "anime watcher" not an "anime buff".
I pretty much enjoy any and all anime, and don't become critical of or pretentious about anime. Regardless, I'm open to discussing any anime. -- Unlike many otaku, or even Japanese people ... while I buy anime, I wouldn't go to the movie theatres to see an anime (unless it was someone else's idea and I'm just going, or it's something of 'Akira' proportions). It's possible that if I were in Japan where anime in theatres is more common, then I would ... but I don't, and am a New Yorker (aka it's $12 for a movie). I also don't listen to much anime-related music, I probably have less than two albums worth out of my 570+ album collection.
I also am not lonely (ever), nor desparate. I don't find most females that do cosplay remotely attractive. It's probable that my standards are too high, not because of conceit but because of habit (I deal with a lot of fashion models on a professional and personal basis). Though I will say, I do eagerly look for 'the one' that will redefine my perception of cosplay (I don't mean 'the one' in a romantic sense). Are you her? It's possible. Though until redefined, 'cosplay' is something that I'll only find to be "cute".
Despite those things, I do have some 'otaku' habits.
Like, I can pick up almost any anime and not be bothered by the content ... be it hentai, loli, or whatever. Harem anime amuse me, I like 'fan-service' and ecchi, anime males that lack action or are timid irk me, as do anime females (or guys) that can't accept situations (like the one's who prefer to be in denial about the reality of the situation or even their parents). However, those are things that irk me about people in real-life also, lol. Another 'otaku' thing is, I find many 2d anime women more appealing than 'real-life' women, in personality and appearance. It's possible that if I played anime games, then I too would prefer my 2d counter-part over a real-life one, lmfao.
I'm open to anything anime related, and don't have many strong biases and preferences (in regard to anime or most things). As a parallel, to me a "music lover" who only loves a specific genre ... isn't a general "music lover". As such, I'd call them a "rock music lover" or something similar versus a "music lover" ... so like many otaku I'm an "anime lover". However, I'm also a "lover of life & love" (and all of the things I previously mentioned that I often discuss).
There are many anime that I like, if interested check my anime ratings (or on anidb). Although my ratings don't exactly reflect my favorites (like Hoshi no Koe is a favorite but I don't think it was a 'masterpiece'), it still gives a general idea. If you'd like more info or pics, check the previous spoiler or my myspace page. Please feel free to add me as a friend on any of those sites.

I enjoyed it, but I did go in with low expectations--my friend payed for my ticket. Upon re-watching it however, I found that it had lost its initial charm. I try not to judge films based upon what studios/directors/producers/actors/etc. are involved because everyone, regardless of how brilliant they may seem, can screw up and be involved in a horrible project.
If you enjoy historically-based films, my I suggest Impromptu? It's about the composer Frederic Chopin and the author George Sand. Quite true to the actual history, and with lovely costuming (what can I say, I'm quite shallow like that!).
No problem. I would actually recommend seeing it, as the costuming is spectacular and the soundtrack is utterly stunning. I did wish there were more period music, but I think they did an amazing job using contemporary tunes.
