I've reviewed this years back shortly it after it aired and praised it for what it is. And having rewatched it just yesterday and viewing it from a more "matured" set of eyes, the anime still holds up extremely well despite being 7 years old.
This is a chaotic show full of random, illogical humour. You cannot go in and expect a serious show. If you do, you'll definitely fail to see why many praise this show and appreciate its weird, unique humour. Imagine a galge/dating sim where your choices influences the story, the idea is put into

motion and is the main driving force of the series, except the choices makes no sense.
The story premise is pretty generic, a high schooler with potential love interests and is a bit "dense" to notice their feelings. But he's not the sort that will annoy the viewer since he is self aware of his situation and understands his own worth. And more often than not, he's too preoccupied about his own mental choices so he neglects the love interests feelings. But is this the correct choice/approach to curing himself of his mental choices?
The story does tick all the boxes to being a anime romcom, with a a childhood friend, a tsundere (I'd argue a kuu-tsundere), the "exchange student" and obligatory pool episode.
The ost is not bad, it's not underwhelming but not outstanding either. Not too many memorable ones, but there is definitely effort being put in, especially the Shirobuta-kun song as well as Kanade's "alternate future breast song". Not to mention one of the upbeat opening sang by Afilia Saga, S・M・L☆.
The characters can be viewed as generic and you'll immediately notice their character trope if you've watched a lot of anime. But it utilises their traits well especially with their dialogue execution. The interaction between the characters is what makes the series shine in comparison with a lot of other series out there. It never feels like there's a dull moment when the love interests are together with the protagonist. They all have their roles to play to drive the narrative forward. A boke-tsukkomi routine if you will.
It's still a worthwhile series to go back to, now that the anime scene is flooded with a lot of issekai animes and other generic light novel series. This is a rom-COM series that I will always hold in a high regard cause it is arguably the epitome of Japanese light novel humour with its puns (that sadly almost never works when translated), occasional slapstick and perverted humour.
It's a real shame this series didn't really take off since it had a lot of potential. I'm sure a lot of re-reviewers or rewatchers are begging for a season 2 since the light novel is finished, I'm on the same boat for sure. And sadly, there is no official translations for this series either.

hates youth and those who enjoys it. As he submits his hateful essay upon reflecting this thing called "youth" to his language teacher, he gets immediately rejected and is about to be punished by becoming a member of a club that requires ....... optimism????!!!!! Caught up, good. The story, admittedly seems cliche, especially if you've read the synopsis of the anime. But it's a deep story, with meaningful topics and the occasional, casual comedy.
Unlike the anime, this manga captures each characters' personal emotion and facial expression better than the anime.
I guess it's because the faces isn't constantly trying to catch up to the next scene or to react to the other character's words. And has a very refined style of drawing I must say. My personal favourite for a manga.
The characters are the selling point of this series, and this medium does not let it down in terms of perfecting the mood or the even the comedy between each character. Especially Zamokuza and Yuigahama's funny moments. Their faces and just body gestures really shine much much more than the anime personally. Not only is the art more refined, but also contribute to the story-telling element evident in manga.
Having finished the anime, and the light novel, the manga lives up to both forms, and perhaps exceed the anime dare I say. And for any die-hard Oregairu fans or first timer readers, this manga is definitely worth giving a shot.
Overall, I have nothing but praises for this series in the form of manga. The artist has wonderfully captured the mood of each character perfectly and was simply a joy to read. Can't wait for the next volume to come out.

When dealing with the genre of horror, one must be very careful, because fear comes in 2 main forms.
Terror, the form where you are scared because you don't know what will happen. Horror, where you are scared when placed in / experiencing a scary situation. And personally, terror is the better one when watching any text / medium.
So Another, the show that can be deemed as one of the best horror animes, and it does live up to the name.

The rest of the students, devastated by the unexpected loss, decided to carry on as if their classmate were still alive, going so far as to keep the desk in place and bringing it to the graduation ceremony. Yet no one could explain why their classmate, already dead and buried, was present on the graduation photo.Then, in the spring of 1998, a boy named Kouichi Sakakibara transfers to the class, and begins to grow suspicious of the fearful atmosphere permeating the class. In particular, he becomes fascinated with a mysterious, aloof girl with an eye patch who always sits alone, drawing pictures. A girl the rest of the class refuses to acknowledge. A girl named Misaki. With horror, there needs to be suspense built, the reason for all the phenomenons occurring, and most of all, being able to get you jump from your seat. And to satisfy all these conditions can be considered difficult, especially within 12 episodes. But it has proven itself to be successful.
Story. As far as I'm concerned, it was very well written. In some horrors, all you get is a plethora of violent deaths, or some menacing scenes. But Another builds its suspense. Like breaking each individual bone in your body, then prick you till you die. In other words, it progresses slowly, and builds up its suspense before it all comes together in the grand finale.
All in all, it is a terrifying ghost story.
Art. The backgrounds feel real, yet the characters are fictional. And it works in a surreal way. Similar to a classic Victorian house, with cool gadgets and modern technology inside. And it does not stop there, but pushes its limits further as the show progresses.
In some circumstances, the setting/ stage is of crucial importance in many horrors. Another definitely gets 10/10 for this. That is how well the artwork was.
Sound. Just listening to the osts alone is capable of sending chills down one's spine. In some circumstances, each ost has its own little story to tell. But it can only sing silently, so it requires the emotions and dialogue of each character to create a "terrible beauty". To top it off, you get a story that is terrifying in its own peculiar ways.
Characters. I felt the characters were a bit 2 dimension for this, but they have contributed to the story immensely. So I can't flaw them too much. They are very memorable characters as they all have a strong sense of personality, their roles in this to fulfil and their secrets to keep. (we all have secrets let's be honest) It's like talking to NPCs in a game. They won't tell you much unless a certain task or achievement is completed.
Enjoyment. Honestly, this was one of the shows I would not go out of my way just to watch it. I happen to come across by accident and was curious how an anime horror would manage to terrify people. Mainly, we are scared because they seem / are real. So how can anime, a full on fiction medium, terrify people? Let's just say, Another is a very ghostly story. And ghosts aren't exactly real, so this is perhaps, one of the reasons why it was so "delicious".
Overall. I recommend watching it around autumn, where the days gets a little shorter, a bit darker, and a bit colder. Watch it before you sleep, with a bedside lamp by your side. And be prepared for an incredible journey with Sakakibara-kun as you discover more and more about the class 3-3, this mysterious Misaki, and how well the story unfolds like a wrapped up carcass, showing you all the stained bones, rotted organs and bits of flesh.

I'm kinda nice in telling people about it.
So Hachiman. The protagonist who acts like an antagonist. The vilian that no one asked for, but the one we need in our perfect little lives. (Not my words btw)
And I'm sure many who enjoyed this show could relate to Hachiman in some twisted way or another. But if you really think about it, isn't it just a show about a high school teenager with a cynical attitude towards his surroundings based on his somewhat poor 3 years in junior high? So how did he,

and the show get so intersting?
Like I said, his cynical attitude is practically the glue that holds most of the comedy, the perspective and answers to the problems in this anime. And this is what stands out from all the animes out there. It doesn't have your pretty boys (unless you count Totsuka) with a happy go lucky trait, a harem nor everything will go well for the protagonist kinda plot. And I have a feeling that is the reason why people love it. It's so different from the wild sci-fi, action anime. So different that it can relate to each individual viewers.
What's so great about the setting? It's set in Chiba!!! The prefecture well known for peanuts!!! (In reality, it's actually a residential prefecture with little tourist atteactions)
But seriously, we all know (well, the ones that are in or went to) high school. The social ladder, the loners, the stress etc. And for the first time in any medium, we see the life of being a high schooler in the eyes of a loner. (Without any gruesome twist) And we don't get that in any medium. It captures the reality so painfully true that we love it so much and can understand what it feels like. So Kudos for that Watari.
If you think about it, this show is lead by the characters and their development. It's not like a show where people are trapped in a game and get out after x episodes. No, we witness these characters almost from a day to day basis. They grow, they have a change of heart, and most of all, they all have a strong sense of personality. It's more the in-game experience we witness here. And personally, this is missing in a lot of entertainment. Just the idea of characters driving the plot, and not vice versa.
Admittedly, the art is fairly unsightly, like Hachiman's dead fish eyes, foul mouth and twisted mind. Okay, maybe not THAT bad, but you get me. But that should not have been a reason as to why anyone didn't not finish this show.
Overall, I think it captures life, questions its illogical society and how everyone just follows these unwritten rules of life. And to top it off, we have Hachiman laughing at it and openly expresses his hatred towards it. He is the "antagonist" that no one asked for, but the one we need in our perfect little lives. Some would say, he is even Batman. But no, he is 8man.
Oops, forgot to mention the subtle, but suffifient romantic scenes between Hachiman and Yukinoshita, Yuigahama, Totuska and Hayato? (In the eyes of Ebina at least).

The main reason why you've watch this show is because you've watched the first season. If not, then you've something going wrong because this is a season 2.
Story. Again, not much to say. Just a series of Slice of Life comedic events, such as visiting your friend who is ill, doing laundry(apparently), buying stationary goods and eating chocolates. All very cute. In an anime at least.
Art. Stayed the same thankfully.
Characters. THERE ARE NEW CHARACTER!!!! Not telling who cause that's actually a big enough part of this sweet sweet season 2. The rest are still there.

Overall, worth-while. For those who enjoyed season 1 at least.

If you've watched this, I recommend watching Ao no Kanata 4 rhythm as well. Both were written by Sprite. And both are fairly enjoyable.
Now, Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate, a.k.a Love, elections and chocolate. As the title suggests, all three things are involved in this show. But they all seem to conflict each other. There is no love in politics, and it's definitely not sweet. (Unless it's dark chocolate). So how can this work?
Very simply, it's an adaptation of a VN, so it will work itself out somehow. And trust me, IT works. I'm about to

watch it again, for the 4th time.
Story. THERE IS A PLOT!!! And no, not "plot". You can actually take this show seriously and still enjoy it as much as you want. It has quite an original plot despite it's insanely common setting, a high school. What do you do when something precious to you is about to be taken away from your everyday life? Naturally, you'd fight and protect it as much as you can. And following the anime tradition, this show does not hesitate. And the drama involved definitely enhances this show a lot. And there is something for everyone in this show.
Art. Fairly simple, but effective. Not like moe or Love Live like. Just simple. Kinda like SAO, but simpler.
Sound. If you've read my Ao no Kanata review, then it'll be more or less the same. This show was adapted from a VN, and naturally, it would re-use its osts from the VN itself. And there's no problem. It has heart-breaking osts, cheerful osts, calm but happy ones. The lot. (Annoyingly, they don't exist any more on Youtube)
Characters. Again, very VN tradition. The childhood friend with a scar, the one out of your reach by will some how make its way, the quiet one and the friendly one. I like them all. But they're not very memorable characters, which is a bit disappointing. Like, when you watch it, you will have your favourite, but when you finish the show, they tend to fade away. Other than that, they are very unique and well designed characters.
Enjoyment. Very enjoyable, but it's like a B-list / C-list celebrity. You know they exist, they are very good actors/ actresses, but no matter how they try, they can't jump out of that pool. That's what this show is like. Maybe it has something with the plot/characters/art. I don't know. But it will be the best show in its class.
You can compare this with, maybe Nisekoi, but ultimately, Nisekoi is the A-list celeb, so that will get noticed before this does. But if you comapre this to like, maybe Rakudai Kishi, then it stands a chance in being the superior anime. (In terms of plot, not "plot")
And again, this show can be taken seriously or light-heartedly, which is one reasons why I love this show.
Overall, it is possibly the best VN adapted anime in its class. Very cool plot, fair art, fantastic sound, great characters and very good fun. And I would recommend people to watch it. And thankfully, it does have a happy ending!
And do give Ao no Kanata 4 rhythm a go if you've watched/finished this show. They are somewhat similar to an extent.

Before I begin, the genres it contain were wrong. But other than the misleading genre titles, I personally found it quite enjoyable.
Note that this show was based on a VN (Visual Novel) by Sprite. So there will be some VN cliches.
Story. For many who takes anime seriously and always seeks a plot, then you will be disappointed. Mainly, it was non-existent. I guess the best way to put it was similar to Fee!. Not much plot, just characters doing sports. Also, it's a sport that doesn't exist in real life. So no one can remotely relate to it.

And I feel it could have done much better if they developed the story more. But, it's probably one of those VN animes for advertising.
Art. Brilliant. Not gonna say much but it does its job very well.
Sound. I'm a fan of anime osts (Original Soundtracks) in general. And let me tell you, I've been trying to find this anime's ost since like episode 7. I just love the cheery-ness and the light-heartedness of these osts. And again I've a feeling the ost were from the actual VN itself. And generally, VN have great osts.
Characters. Despite its relatively poor plot, the characters were quite memorable. The bubbly one, the sleepy-cat one, the obsessive one, and the quiet one. They're all there and it kinda deviates from your usual characters because they fulfil their role very well. They all have their little quirks and gags. Again, it follows the tradition of a typical VN.
Enjoyment. I personally enjoyed this show quite a lot. It's those shows were you watch for fun only. No thinking involved, suspension of disbelief and accept the show as it is. These are elements required to maximize enjoyment out of this show.
No thinking, well it's a comedy. Suspension of disbelief, it's a Sci-fi anime about a non-existing sport. (And you WILL be very confused most of the time, but I think it will be worth it). Accept the show as it is. Remember that it's only 12 episodes, about a non-existing sport. So it will be IMPOSSIBLE to fill everyone's image of this show, and perfect it. Even Angel Beats, deemed as Angel Feels, couldn't develop all its characters in 12 episodes (excluding the extra episodes). So don't expect that will happen in this anime.
Overall, as much as i would like to give it more than 7, it doesn't deserve more than 8. Max, 7.9 . Pacing and plot were the main downfalls of this. But I kinda expected it after the first episode. BUT, please, if you have dropped this show, I do encourage you to finish it off. Yes, there will always be that one annoying character in every anime (this is no exception), but you will be satisfied with what you've watched.
And for those who are thinking of binging this/starting this. Don't think too deep into it, and don't over-hype it like what I did.
Finally, there's NO romance involved, just so you know. Unless you count the love and passion for this sport. VNs generally are romance stories, so I guess that's why romance was thrown into the genres.

For anyone that does not seek a cliche or a proper plot, then this is an anime for you. Great for loli-cons and people who loves art work from anime.
There is no real story or plot behind this anime, but a series of scenes of slice of live situations. A wonderful anime for your "break" from another anime. This has brought me laughter and joy. Whenever I think about this, it just sparks me and longs for more. Not much over-used comedic effects to get cheap laughs from the audience.

is one of the best drawn anime ever. If you disagree, tell me. They really maximized the use of the moe effect; from the detailed hair style of Rize to the cute bow that Cocoa wears, to Tippy on Chino's head to Chiya's gleeful smile to Syaro's uniform. The background is jaw-dropping magnificent. The medieval style of the buildings is a nice touch and different from your usual Japanese buildings from shows like Initial D etc.
The real captivating feature about this show are the characters and their personality. It's what they are that makes the soul of this show. Without it would be like Fairy Tail without the Fantasy. In other words, you watch it for the sake of the characters. There must be one that you like, the apathetic(ish) Chino, the bubbly Cocoa, the prideful Syaro, the ditzy Chiya and the solider-like Rize. If not, you're going to waste your time.
Soundtrack is alright. Personally, I listen to a lot of soundtracks, but I've no compliments nor praises for it. However, the ending is something I always loom forward to after finishing an episode. It sounds so happy and bouncy. I will actually rewind and go back a minute and listen again.
It's a really good anime for people who doesn't like a long series, good sit-com like laughs, and who are innocent (No H yay :D).
To sum up, great art, good laughs, nice music, brilliant character and personality.

Despite this being H heavy, it was an enjoyable anime to watch. Hopefully I'll have as much fun when I write this. (Spoilers included)
The comedic elements are different from your normal anime, the characters are a bit cliche but they managed to pull it off. Fair play to them. The plot is similar to a manga I'm currently reading(well the idea anyway) but it's simple, yet effective. The nude scenes are relatively well drawn (I'm not a perv. I guarantee.) But what stands out the most to me are the characters' logic.
Issiei's Logic : That B*$tered made senpai

cry, I MUST KILL HIM!!!
Rias' Logic : To not marry the man of NOT my dreams, I'll sleep with one of my club members. (Yes because ALL good ideas start with sleeping with other people) With my disadvantaged chess team, I'll take part in a ludicrous rating game against a full set just so I don't have to marry him. That's IF I win of course.
Koneko's Logic : There are 3 perverts inside a locker, I think I'll punch the locker door to scare them.
Ashia's Logic : My only friend is a boy and I REALLY like him, so I'll do nothing to get his attention except wear clothes for him to strip off of me. Also, I was part of the church but now, I'm a demon, so I'll pray and repent when I do sinful things. (Despite these, she is the only one that's kind of normal)
Kiba's Logic: There's a hot knight in the opposing team. I'll fight her because I love my sword.
Akeno's Logic: Well, she's a sadist so no need to explain.
Although there are memorable action moments to pointless romantic scenes, this is a pretty good show. I love the relationships among the club members and how the plots makes so little sense. It's a good show to watch for mindless (I mean like no need to analyse)comedy, for inspiration how wild one can go in writing a story.
The only thing about this show is that it comes with a catch, Heavy H. I'm not that into it (WOW, a guy that doesn't like H. Is he even straight? (Yes I am)). There's so many pointless H scenes with spoiled the greatness of this show. Is Rias's oversized breast REALLY important in the show? Is the fact that Ashia is not happy with her normal sized ones relevant? Do we really need to see that Issei is a pervert and thinks about really lewd girl on girl porn when he sees Akeno stretchs with Ashia?
The other thing is the religion involved. I'm not too content with the whole idea of God vs Bad angels vs Demons. It's not right. I'm very sensitive with religion so that made me dislike this show.
Overall, ignoring the H and the religion, it's a pretty emotional show of a guy, taking care of all his women. (The occult research club is a pretty interesting name for a club)

Oh great, some random person ranting about this anime and how awful it is. Well, you're not wrong if you thought that, but there was something that intrigued me.
For starters, I came across this anime by accident. Just browsing through romance anime ( like a normal guy (not really) ). And the brief introduction about this show caught my attention.

girl in another class. As you do on a regular basis.
As I went on, the protagonist changes. His personality, his desire, his conscience and his reputation of himself. In the beginning, he was just a shy, caring person looking for a miracle. In the end, he lost everything, including his virginity. ( and his life I know)
The plot was fair, which could happen to some people in reality, which is completely fine, but what I dislike is the unnecessary H scenes involved. (never thought a guy would dislike this?)
What I despised most was the characters, mainly the protagonist. He was so insanely eccentric from reality and is completely nuts. I mean seriously, reading porn on a date, has he no shame? Also, getting your classmate to be your "practice sex partner" though. COME ON, that's just sick.
In my opinion, for an anime, go for full slice of life, or full insane non realistic plot. This anime was kind of a bit of both, which makes me hate this. There is not proper decision made whether this show is either or.
The ending of this show was awful. I mean, sure he may have cheated on his girlfriend. Sure he (didn't) knock up his classmate. slept with other women in this school, ignored his best friend, drove his ex mentally insane, and did nothing to improve himself to be a better person. But seriously, killing people is not right, especially at his house as well. Whose gonna clean up the mess as well?
All jokes aside though, that rooftop ending how the ex sliced up the knocked up girl's stomach, that's just uncalled for. It's gruesome. How can anyone enjoy this show in the first place. Please, if you actually enjoyed this horror, tell me why.
Overall, this is an awful anime and will definitely not recommend this to anyone ( unless they like horror).
