About ConcreteBadger
I'm an over-enthusiastic, cynical, elitist, open-minded apologist who is a compulsive writer and guitar/music geek. I watch more anime than is healthy nor socially acceptable and have maintained(?) my blog, the End of the World, since April 2006. I also write reviews and editorials for Anime UK News.net.

My MAL blog is not intended to be a replacement or companion to my main blog, but rather a digital equivalent to post-it notes for reference purposes when writing proper blog posts. I spill out my first thoughts as I watch the episodes and refer back to them later; you're not expected to understand nor even care about them since they're written pretty much for my own benefit.

My new blog is now online proper. Hope everyone had a great christmas and best wishes for the new year.

Cheers, Martin. Duly noted and literally added to my list of things to watch.

Ah, another person whose birthday I missed. Happy belated!

Sasa | 04-09-09, 9:29 PM
It's that time of the year again... Happy birthday!

Yeah, I thought it captured the voice and texture of Nasu very well. Glad to hear you liked it. :)

Yes, I am indeed. I see we have high compatibility.

Thanks! Mushishi has been a real gem so far, it's just that I've had to drag myself to watch it due to the lack of urgency (as would be befitting a show of such nature) involved in its ongoing plot and whatnot.

Let me know how Tsukihime turns out--I suspect you'll have a harder time with it than you did with F/sn, both reading and UI-wise, but it's not like that's an iron-cast fact.

Thanks man! Having friends from different time zones made me feel like my birthday is 3 days long ^_^

Cheers to you too! Hope you're enjoying BECK; It's my favorite series and I'm currently reading the manga (The anime is only 26 episodes long, so it only goes up to volume 12 of the manga, but there are 33(iirc) volumes of the manga) and it's just as great as the anime, except it goes on for longer; So I get to see what happens ;). The character styles (Ryuusuke's style being my favorite), the music (I often listen to the soundtrack, especially 'Like a foojin' and their cover of 'I've got a feeling'), the character relationships and romance (Yukio and Maho) are all excellent... I could be here for a while!

I've also noticed in your profile - "guitar/music geek" - Do you happen to play the guitar?

bateszi | 01-05-09, 1:03 PM
Planetes is a really great series, and a really great love story to boot-- with one of the most beautiful conclusions I've seen in anime. I find it's rare that the last episode of an anime series is its highlight, but, for me, that's definitely the case with Planetes.

As for Natsume Yuujinchou, I'm loving it. It captures a feeling I quite admire. A kind of elegant-- wonder-struck-- mysterious-- beauty. Episodes 4 and 8 were so pretty, and so emotional. I'll have to blog about it.

Sasa | 12-16-08, 7:02 AM
Really, I totally understand. I saw it a bit in your newest Eve no Jikan post, in which I wished you would have written more about your rather tangential thoughts about it...
And now, "Mono no aware" looks great! I especially noticed the "powered by Evlend" hehe, that's very cute, tehe.

I think that this is quite a great solution to blog about a wider range of topics but still blog about anime if you feel like it. And I think you should give it a try to write about Xamdou 18, which I have yet to see. :)

I know what you mean about taking a break - just recently I've begun to have new ideas again, so I'm playing with the idea of restarting fairly soon. We'll see how that goes.

Glad to hear you're finding Tytania worthwhile. I thought the recent episode focused on Lydia worked particularly well, partly becuase I feel space opera ought to be about things like a princess creating havoc by wandering off on her own to give an immensely powerful rulers a piece of her mind, but also because it brought out the relationship between Jouslain and Bal'ami. It was also amusing to see the 'Lydia Problem' being passed down from Ajman to Jouslain, and then from Jouslain to Bal'ami, just as happens in a lot of real hierarchies.

I hope you won't hate me for this, and perhaps this is all due to the fact that I'm horribly tired, but it took me awhile to figure out why the hell you started a new blog, ahaha.

Now, the question is: Which blogroll should I add your new blog to? Heterochromia or my 'general blog'? Hmm...

bateszi | 11-29-08, 3:54 AM
I urge you to go back and try Casshern Sins again, at least up to episode 4 (the first 2 episodes are harsh, but the mood changes). It's proving to be an absolutely wonderful experience, much akin to Mushishi and Kino's Journey, and, at this point, it's probably my favourite anime of 2008 -- even more so than Xam'd, which I adore nearly as much.

Owen | 11-20-08, 1:33 AM
Yeah, I saw your reply to my comment. Apparently Monster's licensees only plan to start publishing 20th Century Boys when they're done with that, so you'd be right on track, I guess. Something about not wanting sales to conflict, although it seems pretty misguided to me.

Enjoy Solanin, will see if I can beat you to the punch before that (although I highly doubt it--Unlimited Blade Works, the second route of F/sn, has 400 words in a post so far, and that's just my rough draft notes!). :P It's nice to be the truant of Autumn.

Owen | 11-01-08, 10:39 AM
Solanin is Beck meets Murakami. Heady mix.
