Man, why didn't I watch Futakoi Alt. earlier?

I still remember when you showed me the first ep like a decade ago and I had no idea what went on.

Well, finally got around to watching Pastoral: To Die in the Country last night. Incredible film, both in terms of its production (set design in particular) and thematic nature. Easily one of the best coming of age stories, let alone films that I've seen. What other films of Terayama's would you recommend?

Also, J.A Seazer soundtracks are sexy.

Dude, you should make a Letterboxd account and list all the shitty arthouse stuff you've watched

Don_Don_Kun | Mar 11, 2014 9:28 AM
cool blog mang, sister sites are totally rad. I always did like your posts though. :3

Thanks for posting those links and recommending me a few albums. Currently, the only artist/band I know out of all of those is Shiina Ringo (whose stuff I generally like a lot) so I'll listen to the others bit by bit.

I haven't tapped into underground Japanese music enough, though that's more because of me not really getting into music until recently and having no idea where to start looking. Mind recommending me a few shitty interesting artists/bands to get me started (I'm open to most stuff)?

Yeah, the last arc and ending were definitely the strongest parts of Utena. Although I agree that a lot of the side characters could've been expanded upon more, I felt that there was enough closure given to reinforce the concepts they represented (which is more in keeping with Ikuhara-san's directing style). Also, J.A Seazer compositions are p. smexy. I really need to watch Pastoral: To Die in the Country.

I guess it has been a while since we last talked, lol. If you're back in Ontario, just give me a shout (though I'm not sure where I'll end up in a few years' time).

Utena is fabulous, YO! Definitely check out Princess Tutu if you get the chance, since it's another genre-bending mahou shoujo.

Also, we should hang out sometime if you're still around.

Happy birthday Chiisu/Sunnie/whatever the fuck you call yourself now.

Cardcaptor Sakura is pretty fabulous by the way, though Sakura > Tomoyo.

I made a few posts on the blog. Check it out. Hope you continue blogging, since it will keep me motivated to do so as well

Don_Don_Kun | Dec 26, 2011 10:19 PM
Yeah sure, I was planning on starting one up anyways. Just let me know how we are going to go about doing it.

Wednesday works great for me. Are you okay meeting up at noon at the IR rec. centre?

Don_Don_Kun | Dec 25, 2011 12:08 PM
Marathon Hidan no Aria. It's the greatest shit ever.

Also, are you free to chill sometime next week? Say Tuesday or Wednesday?

Don_Don_Kun | Dec 7, 2011 8:43 PM
Okay, so ARIA is basically my favourite slice of life series ever. The atmosphere, pacing, characters and soundtrack are really top-notch. I'm going to be really depressed when I finish Origination...

I'm done my exams on the 21st. Will you be back by then? We should meet up around then to chill and catch up

Don_Don_Kun | Nov 19, 2011 4:41 PM
yeah, Nisemonogatri is like the only good TV show airing this winter, oh well guess that means I can catch up on some shows that I missed.

Is Aria any good? From what I hear its a really beautiful slice of life with awesome music.

Don_Don_Kun | Nov 18, 2011 2:37 PM
yo, I finally finished Bakemonogatari. I have to say it was a really creative show. The animation style just blew me away, and the conversations between the characters were great. Just wish Senjougahara was in the second half more and that there was less fanservice, but w/e.
