Hey, my name is Matt. I am twenty-two years old and currently attending college. I spent my first two years majoring in Mechanical Engineering, but it was too much work and I wasn't enjoying it at all. So I gave that up and switched my major to Accounting. I am very happy with the switch so far, but I assume at some point I will get sick of this too.
Outside of anime my biggest interest is sports. It is a very rare day when I don’t watch SportsCenter at least once. I absolutely love the NFL (Giants), MLB (Mets), and PGA Tour (Mike Weir). I love to play golf as well. There is no place I would rather be than out on a golf course.
Like many others, I assume, I got my first taste of anime back in elementary school from playing Pokemon. The second I found out it was a TV show I just had to check it out. Well, I absolutely loved it and then made my way through Digimon, Monster Rancher and finally ended up on DBZ. After it ended, I spent the next few years re-watching my old tapes thinking it didn’t get any better than that. Then on June 21, 2008 (yes, sadly I remember the day) my friend introduced me to FMA. After finishing the series in a few days I was very intrigued by anime and wanted to see more. So I took a few more suggestions from him, which led me to Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, and FMP. By the time I finished FMP I was hooked for good. Since then I have been watching basically anything I can get my hands on.
I am not a big fan of reading, so it took me a while to get into manga. The first one I read was Gantz. I loved the show but hated the ending, so I took some advice I read in a review and decided to give the manga a shot. Well it didn’t take long for me to realize that it was superior to the show. I found the same thing when I read GTO, which made me realize that manga actually was enjoyable to read. A lot of the manga I read are due to similar circumstance, loved the show but disliked the ending. I have begun to branch out a bit, but I still prefer manga as a continuation to an anime rather than reading it before.
I figured I would throw some non-anime favorites down too, so you can see if our anime compatibility transcends to non-anime tastes as well.
