I am writing this so that those watching this expecting it to be a prequel will NOT BE MISLED. This is definitely not a prequel, but more rather a side-story spin-off type. Viewers who haven't watched Guilty Crown and for those who have,(I have) will be just as confused.
The purpose of a prequel is usually to explain what was unexplained in the sequel or tie up loose ends and such. However this OVA did not accomplish that, the only thing it does is leave the viewers in more confusion. WAIT! let me rephrase that, the ONE thing it DID explain was how Makoto Walkt Segai ( http://myanimelist.net/character/50709/Makoto_Waltz_Segai) got his left eye ****ed up. THAT is the ONLY thing that was explained, and the ONE tiny thread that connects it to Guilty Crown. There is pretty much no correlation between THIS and Guilty Crown. NONE of the events of the "Lost Christmas" that happened 10 years prior is Guilty Crown are explained. Shu isn't there, Gai (or Triton =_=) isn't there AND MANA is NOT there. You could call this OVA contradictory to Guilty Crown because some girl called Carol is masquerading as Mana.
When watching your thrown right into a weird atmosphere with characters you don't know and have no clue what their names are. The short MAL summary explains more than the anime BY FAR.
Mmm to get down more to the tiny details. The art, I felt was actually worse than guilty crown. Sound, yeah jeez they used the same soundtrack with egoist. Story, confusing the most dramatic thing that probably happened for me was the dog dying. T_T read more

During the Japanese Sengoku period. The Ming (Chinese) emperor nears his death. He looks for eternal life in an old Taoist belief that a "child born once every one-hundred years" has to be sacrificed (his blood used) to make the Elixir of Immortality.
I'll begin by saying personally I think the anime is a bit overrated and I myself found it around a 7.5. But gave it an 8 to be generous and I will explain why below. I will split my review into the pros and cons to explain why.
Pros
Art (9)- The art is pretty mind blowing. It even kept up in the fight scenes. They even gave meticulous attention to the background. At times the background did fall off though and were simply blurry blobs. (However this could've been intentionally done, as their "style" of drawing)
Sound -(10) The background music was always spot on. Especially for the fight scenes with the low drums or the dramatic scenes with the woodwinds.
Enjoyment-9- This is where sword of the stranger really shines. The fight scenes are remarkable. And gore lovers will have their eyes wide open. (however for me it was a bit unrealistic, just how do you hack off so many limbs with one swing)
Cons
Story (7)- The story is unique and hasn't really been down before. The background for the plot has been explained pretty well in the intro above. Kotarou is this boy who is going to be sacrificed so hes on the run and runs into this samurai, Nanashi. However the Ming (Chinese) elite soldiers are after them.
The story was strong, but there were parts "low points" in the anime. While they were on the run, they didn't really do much some days but eat sleep and ride the horse.
Character-6- This is one of Sword of the Stranger's weak spots. None of the characters are really developed at all except Nanashi, with his 3 second flashbacks. The anime's name is truly fitting being "Sword of the Stranger" as Nanashi really felt like a stranger the whole anime. I had no idea who this guy was or why he kept his sword sheathed.
From his flashbacks we can tell Nanashi was an ex-soldier and he probably killed a lot to earn his name "No-named red-haired demon". Since then he has kept a lock on his sword but WHY? It didn't make sense to me. Did do the classic "vow to never kill again"? It didn't make sense to me why he didn't unsheathe his sword till the end. He showed in many instances that he was PERFECTLY CAPABLE of killing someone EVEN with his sword sheathed which totally ruined the reason why it was so. Like a murderer who promises himself not to use guns but has a dozen knives in his pockets.
The other interesting characters in the anime were the Ming Elite. Who, were not developed at all. And for some reason where so strong that they could easily go through a dozen Japanese in less than 5 seconds flat. Rarou especially was interesting as he was a 6 ft. Caucasian with blond hair and blue eyes. But hey, that was never explained. They simply left him as a barbarian who desired nothing but to fight strong opponents.
1 Very tiny problem I also had was the voice acting for the Ming(Chinese). Being Chinese myself, listening to it was a bit painful and at times I couldn't even understand just what in the world they were saying. read more

What's that? Your a guy sitting at your computer, in your room alone? Suddenly you hear foot steps though, and your little sister barges in. You are caught off guard and slightly started, she didn't knock." HA! Caught you masturbating huh?", she asks. But no...you weren't...
Aaaaaand that is what this show is pretty much like. Personally I think the anime is a little bit overrated so below I will give my personal thoughts.
Hopefully you won't go into Seitokai Yakuindomo thinking it's a slice of life/comedy/ romance/school like me. And you might be disappointed.
Story-6- Tsuda, is a male student who enrolls into a previously all-girls school. (*GASP* OMG have we heard this before?). He joins the student council on the first day of school and we follow his adventures with his sempais from there.
Aaaaaaaand, that's pretty much the whole plot of the story. Because yeah, this anime...no plot. The story is your old "boy goes to previously all-girls school" type. You might think that the anime has plunged straight toward a pitfall trap, but it doesn't. LUCKILY Tsuda is not the only guy at the all girls school, otherwise it'd be a perfect harem. And the other guys (BARELY even mentioned in the anime) are the only reason keeping the story above a 5.
Art-7- I watched in 1280, the art was OK. Like I like to say a lot. It wasn't OMG MIND BLOWING. At times it was slightly lacking though. Oh! I forget to mention, the one problem I had with the art. Tsuda (the main character) has a little sister, THEY LOOK ****ING IDENTICAL *** IS THIS?
Now now, calm down all of you. You might justify it with "well they are related they will look alike". HOWEVER, if you look closely.. Tsuda's little sister has the EXACT same face and hair as Tsuda EXCEPT for 2 pigtails added on. This is not "related, so they look alike this is: copy, past, add pigtails and hope viewers don't notice.
Sound-6-The music for this anime was a big of a drag. The opening was annoying so I skipped it after the first time. The background sounds were simplistic but did their job. Voice acting at times was bland.
Character-6- For Seitokai Yakuindomo, another one of its weak-spots is its characters. The characters, are not developed....like AT ALL past episode 1 read more
