Holy shit what a massive wall of essays you've got here. Also RIP.

Err, my reply is really late, so the show has progressed quite a bit.

But the recent episode was really amazing. I was happy to finally see that Hinata was thinking for himself during spiking, instead of just relying on Kageyama completely for accuracy. It was a great development, and I loved the comparisons to the Little Giant too. :) Nekoma is so cool! I find it funny how I can't hate any characters in this anime. xD They're all so likable, even Tsukishima and Nekoma's setter. It's a great feeling. :D
The animation is also glorious as usual, as well as the music. As you said, it's made me think of volleyball in a new way. :)

And yesh, you must watch Spice and Wolf. :D
Also, I love meeting another Shinsekai Yori fan :) Such an amazing show, although it was super weird at times.

Haha, it has a noticeable red text when you look at the friends tab. I shall take great pride in it.
Well then, happy birthday in some hour time.

I find it a little awkward to be well-wishing relative strangers over the internet, but this huge red notification does stand out.

That given, have as Happy a Birthday as you can.

Finals are happening next month (my school does things so much later than most other schools :/) but it's pretty much coasting at this point since I took a massive course load last year in order to have a lighter one this year. All my final classes are electives.

I agree, Taichi is the best character in the show. And it's for that reason that I think he should not be with Chihaya. He needs someone on his level, someone who's as developed as he is, someone who he doesn't want to be better for, but wants to be better with. I can't say if I think Chihaya and Arata should be a couple since we still know so little about him, but Chihaya needs to grow as a person before deciding on either at this point.

On the one-hand, it gets moving after the first 2 eps. On the other, it starts revealing even more of the asinine/cliche simplistic 'discrimination' and amusing world-setting. Still might improve depending on where the next arc goes, I suppose.
But yeah, not an 'awful' show.

It's quite fun wathcing a large amount of the season, but it loses its appeal at times when you feel like you're picking up oh so much trash. Just gotta be discerning with what you start up, I suppose.
Luckily (or perhaps unfortunately), there's some 40+ years of anime backlog to peruse through - and then there's manga, too. So much to pursue.

Ah, first gundam grows on me all the time. Eventually, you should pick up its compilation films, which do a very good job of consolidating the core story, and updating a few elements (like having Guncannons in space rather than Guntanks.)
The manga, (currently being translated/localised), Gundam: The Origin, is an amazing readapation of 007. Fleshes things out, adds background and better political grounding, etc.
I'd highly recommend it once you're in the mood for revisiting the beginning.

Zeta is an interesting fella. It doesn't have the quiet campy charm of '79, but it has a bucketful more action and mecha. Many who prefer Zeta don't like 79 as much, and those who like 79 might not like Zeta as much.
I'll be interested to see what you think, as I'm obviously a Gundamfanatic.

Haha, it seems you've got the lingo well-down. There is nothing more for you to learn from anime now.

NGNL is quite enjoyable - it's fast paced, so it'll be fairly easy to get through, I think. (Unless you hate NEET jokes and otaku-themed stuff. It's not too bad on those fronts. It may be leaning on the ecchi button, but you seem to have good tolerance for that).

Mahouka is (relatively) slow - mostly because of infodumping, so I'd definitely recommend starting it up if you're worried about getting through it all. The MC... is very 'perfect stu', so it's hit-or-miss.

And sometimes, bad is good. Too good is bad. I find being in the right mood helps things along nicely.

Well, that's very reasonable of you. Generally, if you select a few premier representatives, you get a good idea of the 'average' anime genres. Of course, there's also variety with time-period, and such, but most people don't delve past the 90s except for a few iconic anime.
It can definitely be hard to get a rounded judgement on anime overall if you stick with the 'unusually good' and 'different' anime that can be easy to reccomend - the acclaimed and critic-favoured, but you don't seem to be doing that, so I'm sure you have a far better grasp of the medium's trends than you admit.

I've been working on my flattery and sophistry. Beware my lies and deceit. (No, really, you seem like a rounded (internet) person; so rare in these parts.)
Ckan May 13, 2014 10:16 PM
It's definitely harder to diss people's favourite crummy seasonal anime if you haven't seen it. If you're looking for maximum population, you should probably pick up No Game No Life, as it's slightly ahead of Mahouka in numbers (at least on MAL). Both are relatively enjoyable if you can get over the flaws, but they're not much to gawp at.

It's definitely a weird range from 'bad', to watchably 'bad', and 'disappointingly mediocre'. Funny how the terrible can be sometimes easier to watch, perhaps because there was never any hope for it in the first place.

Haha, 'anime veteran expert' is an illusion. One just has to have a thoughtful mind and a small familiarity with animation - everything else is just excess knowledge gathered over time.

The OP/EDs of the show are fabulous. Good to see you're of discerning taste, as expected.
Ckan May 13, 2014 9:42 PM
That's quite wise. It's definitely easier to down a series that you hate if you take it in weekly doses, on the other-hand, it does bring into question why you'd watch it at all (I need to stop doing it.)
Ping Pong sort of feels like the sort of show that goes down well in doses - each episode is just that full of feeling/change that the down time is quite helpful. But marathoning is all good.

Hmm, well Jojo's new anime (2012 and the current) have been lauded by the manga readers, so it's well worth watching. Going through the manga will of course, be the original form - and it goes far beyond the anime (we're at Part 3, manga is currently going at like Part 8 or so). Tell me the OP doesn't get the blood going.
Ckan May 13, 2014 9:10 PM
I see, I see.

I suppose I'll reconsider Shogun then. I'd heard about the same on Matsutarou, so I'll probably enjoy that.

I'd like to counter-recommend you Ping Pong (I see it's on your PTW), as it's very good storytelling (if you can get past the artstyle/animation).
Apart from that, I'd also point out Mushishi and Jojo, but they're both sequels (which you should definitely try). Mushishi being a premier slice-of-life with amazing atmosphere/ambience, and Jojo being a flashy, over-the-top, and ridiulously good battle-anime.
Yup May 13, 2014 8:52 PM
Yup.
Ckan May 13, 2014 8:41 PM
Ah! I've been stocking it up, but obviously haven't quite gotten round to starting it. I'll definitely get to it eventually (hopefully while it's still ongoing).
Somehow, it looked really 'clean', so I'm looking forward to seeing what it's like.

How's Matsutarou and DaiShogun? I've been intending to pick those up as I've a soft sport for sports and mecha.
ghosts May 8, 2014 3:47 PM
I actually finished my thesis!

Shinsekai yori is on my list to watch at some point, but I need to finish the animes I've started first. I'm in the mood to complete things.
ghosts Apr 29, 2014 4:01 PM
When the Class A player comes forward in the beginning, he says an Arata line, "I wouldn't show mercy even if my opponent was a 5 year old", in a Fukui accent lol. He lost by 1 card when it was 4 to 1 and he had 8 cards on his side while they had 4 on theirs so I mean, it was a massive handicap.

Yoshimasa made some faults, which Mamoru teased him for, but he got the last card for their side.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
