About Archaeon

Yes, there is a club for The Geek Show here on MAL, and someday it will be used for more than just updates.

Firstly, my profile picture is of The Dude from the Coen Brother's movie "The Big Lebowski". It is not Jesus.

It's a bit dusty around here so I think it's time I did a bit of Spring cleaning.

First, I apologise for the lack of reviews. Life and work got in the way of writing for quite a while, but I should finally be more productive on that front very soon (barring any of my trademark pratfalls).

Anyway, my two year transitionary period is almost over so I'll try to be more active here on MAL. As ever I'm happy to talk about anime and manga with everyone - discussions are always welcome as long as they're rational, logical, coherent and preferably in english (I've nothing against other languages, I just don't speak them that well).

If you wish to have a go at me - either as a comment or as part of a discussion - then please be creative. You have an imagination so use it - there's no need for foul language. Creating a well-turned insult is an art that is sadly dying so please make an effort.

I do not, and will never accept a random request from anyone. If you want me to accept you as a friend then we should have had at least one meaningful conversation. This does not include one or two comments on my profile, a short discussion about the weather, a chat about nothing in particular, etc.

And remember - pizza is not a vegetable.

Before you brush this aside as a complaint from an angry fanboy, I'd like to say that I agree that Evangelion is mediocre.
However, I think that your statement about Asuka being a realistic character was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
Shinji was realistic in the fact that he was horrified of getting into a giant robot to fight huge monsters taking over the earth, as any average antisocial neglected boy would. This isn't to say that I think that he's realistic, just that he's the MOST realistic.
Asuka on the other hand, is a teenage girl whose favorite pastime is risking her life fighting the aforementioned giant monsters. I honestly don't get how you find that to be realistic in the slightest.
Finally, I don't see how you find the rebuilds to be a 7 yet the original to be a 5. In my opinion, they're both around a 6.

The thing is I've been around MAL for a while now and since beginning i remember you. I always end up reading your reviews.
Somehow your profile picture and reviews clicked together and i always hear Lebowski's voice whenever i read them. (just wanted to say that :3)

Hi! I see you're a very respected reviewer around here, and by the looks of it you have amazing writing ability, even if I disagree with some of your opinions, your reviews are so well written and analytical I mark them as "helpful" anyway.

I'm sort of new here on MAL, I only just joined this January, in hopes of making friends and writing good reviews myself. So since you have really good taste in anime, as far as I'm concerned, what did you see in Shingeki no Kyojin?

I myself loved it, but recently its hype train has crashed and it's getting tons of negative backlash, as I see people all over raging on it with pure hatred. I even wrote a blog about it. Knowing you see what you do in anime, what do you think actually made it good, and not bad like the majority now says it is? Just a question that's been on my mind is all.

I've not finished the show yet, so I'm not sure what some of that you said is, however, it'll make sense in due time, i'm sure.

Part of what makes Saber tick is her absolute adherence to her draconian moral code/ and with that, she serves as a foil to Kiritsugu, who personifies the moral opposites of her despite their singular goal. I think that dynamic is really interesting, however, after the bashing she got from Kiritsugu in episode 16, it really just makes her look silly. The whole "the battlefield is hell" along with the postmodern take on murder vs righteous slaying on the battlefield was great.

My personal favorite servant is probably the Caster, or Gilgamesh. You're right though, Lancer really got shafted, heh.

I'm in the midst of watching the second cour of Fate/Zero right now, and not really sure why I was looking at reviews for it I happened upon your piece about it, which I thought was a good critical take on how the show itself was formed and executed, but I was wondering what your thoughts on the specific motives and rather uniqueness of the cast were.
For a character that's so instantly recognizable like that, (I had seen art of and known the name of the character before I'd ever even heard of the show) I expected a lot more. Perhaps the characterization is to be found in the original series (which I heard was crap, the Deen one), or in the new UBW stuff.. I don't know. I just think that the varied cast and general maturity of the tone, along with a decent story in an action series was well handled. The fact that it could have easily devolved into a shouty, testosterone filled shonen- and didn't- was a breath of fresh air

Hello there, your reviews are pretty accurate .Have you watched Zetsuen No Tempest?I was going to write a review about it but then held myself back, thinking I can afford to have some pointers from someone experienced. So what is your general opinion about the show?

UnknownLegacy | 03-10-15, 2:05 AM
Hey man, like your reviews on FMA and FMA BH. Very detailed and quite interesting haha.

And off that topic is Aria series worth watching? If so how come?

bigblackbrotha | 03-09-15, 3:12 AM
Can I get like a few words about your opinion on Serial Experiments Lain. I personally gave it a 9, seeing as you gave it an 8 I just wanted to see your perspective.

ZephSilver | 03-08-15, 4:21 PM
that makes sense, too many people see the score and neglect the effort placed into a review. I experience that far too often, hell just earlier today.

greebo | 03-08-15, 11:57 AM
Hi Archaeon, Anytime you are free I would love some more recommendations from you. I'm quite excited really... I really don't mind what year they were made or anything like that so the world is your mollusc, or something like that. ^_^

ZephSilver | 03-07-15, 3:36 PM
on a side note what's the lowest number you've ever given a review?

IndependentSK | 03-07-15, 8:15 AM
How does this make you feel?

hylertull | 03-06-15, 9:12 AM
Hey man, just wanted to say that your review of Deadman Wonderland was on point and I felt the exact same way haha. All my friends disagree with me and think the show was so great, but it really did just try too hard to be cool.
