I'm just a simple guy who enjoys manga.
Also, I tweet
here.
Okay, I'll do better than that. Well, I'm an old/new manga reader. When I say old, I mean that I read a little here in there in the early 2000s. When I say new, I'm referring to the fact that I just started reading, buying, and collecting manga in July of 2012. I'm obviously new to MAL.
Now, I'll go ahead and say it: I read scans. Honestly, I think more people here read scans than actually buy. What makes me different is that I buy what is available in English. I strive to support the manga industry. However, if something hasn't been published in North America, or if it is completely OOP, I will read the scans.
I'm currently reading and collecting everything I can get by
Tezuka.
Lastly, I'm a huge supporter of
JManga.

But since my birthday is close to Xmas, and my mom never thought it fair to gyp me on gifts when my sister, born in March, never gets that treatment. So family members don't, but I do let friends do that. But as a result, I usually do a lot of bulk spending around that time. But my favorite comic shop, last year on Black Friday, one of their door busters was 60% off manga from midnight to 9am! Needless to say, I scrapped my plans to go later in the day and went at Midnight. And it was epic! I do like going to their events, they have so much cool stuff there!
I do a mix of both anime and manga. Sometimes I'll favor one over the other for several months at a time, right now it's anime, which is the rarer one. Which is good because I have a few series on my shelf to watch and plan to watch Haibane and Nadesico shortly after I get those. But I usually find that I can read manga faster and that I prefer to re-read a manga more than re-watch an anime. Probably because I feel like I can fit more story in less time? Or that most of the manga in my collection either don't have an anime, don't have a licensed anime, don't have one easy to find cheap, or don't have a complete anime. I usually only buy anime that don't have manga adaptations unless the anime adaptation is very different but still good, or potentially better than the manga (it's why I'm considering buying Natsume's Book of Friends, somehow the mangaka doesn't impress me, but the anime versions of her work do (I'm thinking of the 45 minute movie Hotarubi no Mori e, I read the short manga afterwards and went "meh" after I really enjoyed the movie). It helps cut down redundancy, I've found in the past that I felt rather foolish having both the Ranma 1/2 anime and manga. I mean, I used to adore that series when I first started out, and then I finished the Maison Ikkoku manga and couldn't look at the inferior romcom of Ranma anymore. Where the same jokes are repeated and the plot and relationships go nowhere vs actually clever humor and a slow moving (albeit moving) plot and relationships. It's what every good romcom should be.
But you got Twin Spica, so being broke until the end of September should be much more bearable with a manga that awesome on your shelves. If you ever need suggestions on manga to buy, ask away! Actually, when Brand and I went shopping in the dealer's room at Otakon, most of the time we end up suggesting stuff to each other and spending way too much. Or going "eh, what the hell, you're getting that, I'll get it too!" It's kinda a vicious cycle, but it's still fun!
Have you read Historie? By the guy that did Parasyte? Even the mains look the same! I really hope Kodansha decides to bring it over, nice enough that they're reprinting Parasyte for the time being though. Waiting 9 freakin' months between vol 2 and 3 back when Del Rey was publishing it was downright painful
I think that with Haibane Renmei, Nadesico, and Digimon, I won't want any anime for xmas/bday, so it'll mostly be manga once again! Hopefully I will be able to finish some series soon....
I can't stand ear buds. The little ones that slip over the outside of your ear, I can use those if I have to, but full on earbuds? No. I prefer the headphones that cover over your whole ear. This new set, bit smaller than usual, but very nice. Doesn't quite cover the ear as in goes over it, but sits kinda on it? Hard to describe. For these, you can adjust the earpieces rather than the head piece like normal. But these have the "goes into one side" thing, I really do like that.
Now if only kitty would stop licking my neck with her tongue. It's like she's gonna cut through my neck with a tongue that rough. She likes to spend almost all her time with me, she cuddles under the blankets too. She likes me the best, I'm her human. I'm a bit of a cat person.
Man, I traded someone on MAL for pre-orders, I bet TRSI will get them in sometime next week and I will have my Nadesico and Haibane! Both blind buys. Oh and the trade included Barbara! That comes out a week after those (but DVDs tend to come in earlier). I always try to get the Tezuka stuff asap, and it'll be a year of Tezuka, there's the two Adolf books (I highly recommend the series, also one of his most depressing series though), Unico, Astrocat, and two Triton of the Sea, and that's not counting if Vertical decides to grab something else. Oh and I have Heart of Thomas on pre-order, and a Kaoru Mori (Emma, Bride's Story) has an anthology or something coming out, big year for single volumes of epic.
Man, I need a new pair of headphones, the ones I have now, the right side is acting all funny, like rabbit ears, it'll only work at just the right angles. So I went out and got some others, but they're too big, even on the smallest setting, and they're a bit heavy, so the end result is they hurt my ears. I don't like earbuds, I don't like things in my ears (maybe because I had ear tubes as a child). And the headphones from my mom's room are crap. I'll have to go back later, might have to just shell out and get the $60 ones. They had those on display, I thought they were funny shaped, but they felt very nice, I think they fit my head too.
