Story:8 School comedy/romance focusing upon 7 elite students who are form Special A. Main focus of the series is on the rivalry and developing relationship between Kei and Hikari although mostly the relationship bit is from Kei and the rivalry from Hikari. Well written episodes, with a progressive story and time for character development. A bit slow in the beginning but by about halfway through the pace of the story really begins to pick up. I like how each of the students get some episode time to themselves, I never felt like I was watching a "filler" episode.

Art:8 Character designs are a bit odd at first (long limbs) but the good animation throughout. Kei reminds me of Lelouch from Code Geass in terms of look. One noteable part of the anime is during the romantic, happy scenes, the art style changes to more of a artbook, manga style drawing, works well.

Sound:7The OP/ED are ok but tbh I mainly skipped them. However the voice acting is very good throughout and make certain scenes even more funny.

Character:9The best thing about Special A is the characters and there relationships with each other. Using a mix of childhood memories and experiences at certain times, I'm sure you will be rooting for each of the potential couples.

Enjoyment:8Plenty of laughs and smiles from watching each episode and later on you will get touched and moved by the romance and drama. Its a feel good sort of anime.

Overall: 8 A excellent addition to the romance/school drama series. Great characters, plenty of funny moments, a steady but progressive story. It ain't very realistic in regards to abilities of human beings but hey this anime, its ok to over the top and for the most part it works.

This is of course speaking from a non mange perspective, so I understand if the anime was disappointing (its like reading a novel and watching it as a tv/film adapation) However thanks to Special A I'm reading the manga now, although I skipped like a load of chapters (to 53) read more

Story: 5 Don't be fooled by the description, the story changes every 8 episodes, the intro movie should be your first warning the moment you see some genetically engineered animals with people riding on top ... this show at least the prequel (March) focused on mechs and one crew. I was turned off by episode 16. Only the first "story" is of any interest as it sort of a poor group to success kinda story. The animals part was lame especially the ending for that story and by the time it got to boats I gave up. Also the mecha team seems to completely ignore the nuclear type weapon employed by the original team.

Art:6 Some art is good, specifically the action but by the 3rd story the animation quality drops significantly.

Sound:6 nothing too noticeable, the only good thing I remember was Faze to Love which is just some techno jpop.

Character:5 Disappointing because you will hate the first crew until the end and when you see a potential romance its suddenly switches to another group which uses animal rides ..

Enjoyment:5 Action scenes, the romance in 1st story arc, then afterwards downhill.

Overall: Disappointing and tbh plain irriatating by 3rd story arc. Only noticeable elements was occasional action scene and the opening theme song. read more

Hmm how do I sum up how much I enjoy this anime? I'm getting a key chain for it after watching the series in a day. It really is a good series to watch.

Good animation throughout, a haunting soundtrack, sounds used throughout and an pretty different story (its hard to explain it, its part murder mystery, part conspiracy, part science fiction, part romance, part socialogical)

Engaging throughout and I love how the credits ask you to save before continuing (at the audience)

Engaging to watch because plenty of plot twists and turns throughout, the characters seem to follow sterotypes but then suddenly change, I think as a viewer you will feel emphathy with each character. It tries hard to ask some smart questions to the viewer as well.

Ending was good although kinda warrants a OVA (a bit obscure I guess) but overall I really enjoyed this series. read more
