You should watch "Mai-Hime" (it's related with "Mai-Otome") and "Clannad" (prequel of "Clannad ~ After Story").
There are some "Hagane no Renkijutsushi" specials which you can like.
You watched "Dragon Ball Z" but not "Dragon Ball"? That's great adventure and comedy series.

I would recommend the classics like Eva TV series. Similarly, Rahxephon is good.
Slayers, Kurozuka (awesome madhouse anime), Honey and Clover (character interaction), Canaan, Lain, Macross Plus, Black Lagoon (awesome action and drama), Ghost in the Shell TV series both seasons. Escaflowne TV (epic), Gundam original, Gundam Zeta, Gundam V, Gundam Seed (skip Destiny). Gundam 00 is suprisingly good. Those are just major ones. As for manga, Railgun is pretty good, Black Lagoon is very good, and "Until Death does us Apart" (find scanalation) is great.
