> Are there any genres you generally don't like?

I guess gory stuff, horror stuff and things that get too grim are not my forte, although I have no problem with Higurashi. Also, my interest wanes if the art is not my taste and if the animation is bad I may even give up watching it.

> Did you buy all those BDs because they were on sale or what?

Not really. I buy BDs of shows that I really really love and reckon I can rewatch it multiple times without getting tired of it. I bought them when I went to Japan, and so I saved shipping cost and retailers like Amazon also offers some discount.

I have a few figurines from Eva to Nanoha but once I realized I had no place to display them I stopped buying. Other merchandise like stationery or art books are easier to store so I still buy them (also when I go to Japan).

The situation is more complicated than that. You can say a lot of differences over policy, style, priorities and management approach are also involved. But that is the biggest issue that is the deal-breaker so to speak.

I don't put a list because the list could get too big after watching anime for decades (no exaggeration here) and my list (and taste) also shifts over time. For example Evangelion had a big impact to me (it still does though to a much lesser degree) and my view/taste of anime but I would hesitate to put it in a favourite list if I have to compile one now. In fact I guess I won't even put anime older than 10 years in a list because otherwise I may need to put Candy Candy, Doraemon, MS Gundam, SDF Macross, Touch, Maison Ikkoku, Kimagure Orange Road, Mononoke Hime, Whisper of the Heart (mimi wo sumaseba), Akira and a bunch of others in it, crowding out the titles I enjoyed since Evangelion (Eva will always be a dividing range for me).

You can say that for a veteran anime fan I take in the moe boom quite positively (and believe it or not, many, including myself, credit it to Evangelion). At the end I find myself entertained and partly because of it (and partly because of better consistent quality of sakuga/animation) I am watching more anime than ever before, which I think counts as something positive. I even started to buy anime BDs - though I must say that what I love may not be the same as what I buy (it is entirely possible that I like something but yet not buying it - K-On is one example, Girls und Panzer is another, or Index/Railgun or Aria or Saki). For titles that I actually bought, there are Bakemonogatari, Madoka, Haruhi, Strike Witches, ToLoveRu, Love Live, YuruYuri. Nanoha, Highschool DxD and a bunch of others.

I do have all my old ones. I'm slowly, slowly re-releasing them.

You know, it's kind of refreshing in a way although I did lose a lot of readers. Now I have to re-build but I'm working, trying.

I'll still be around in MAL, just not doing news mod stuff like starting a new news thread.

I wrote a bit more in this thread in case you have not seen it:
