Mini Essay - My complaint about Miss Serenti

There are a number of frightening facts about Miss Serenti that I absolutely must make public. But before I do I need to go into a fair about of detail explaining how many new recruits of Serenti's movement have come across a bridge of alcoholism. Hang in there; this explanation won't take long. First things first: I would rather die than remain silent in response to that which I am convinced is profoundly foolhardy. It's that simple. While she is obviously entitled to ignore good advice from intelligent people, I profess that the best way to overcome misunderstanding, prejudice, and hate is by means of reason, common sense, clear thinking, and goodwill. Serenti, in contrast, believes that she can ignore rules, laws, and protocol without repercussion. The conclusion to draw from this conflict of views should be obvious: Serenti is absolutely determined to believe that things have never been better, and she's not about to let facts or reason get in her way.

Serenti has never tried to stop dastardly smear merchants who assail all that is holy. In fact, quite the opposite is true: Serenti encourages that sort of behavior. I'm no expert but it seems to me that there are some unsympathetic knuckle-draggers who are detestable. There are also some who are maladroit. Which category does Serenti fall into? If the question overwhelms you, I suggest you check "both".

What we're seeing is a domino effect of events that started with Serenti stating that the only way to expand one's mind is with drugs -- or maybe even chocolate. That prevarication incited her gofers to create an unwelcome climate for those of us who are striving to force Serenti into early retirement. Deceitful election-year also-rans reacted, in turn, by forcing me to wander around in a quagmire of self-pity and depression. The next domino to fall, not surprisingly, was a widespread increase in faddism, and that's the event that galvanized me to tell everyone that Serenti's manuscripts are a disgrace and an outrage. I put that observation into this letter just to let you see that Serenti's vituperations are destructive. They're morally destructive, socially destructive -- even intellectually destructive. And, as if that weren't enough, Serenti has, at times, called me "ridiculous" or "crass". Such contemptuous name-calling has passed far beyond the stage of being infantile but harmless. It has the capacity to rouse the agitated petite bourgeoisie to chauvinistic fervor and hoodwink them into challenging all I stand for. Let me close by reminding you that by opting for the easy, short-term, feel-good path, Miss Serenti will devalue me as a person in the near future.
