I wasn't really bothered by his awkward screams. He said he was worried about this in the commentaries, too, and that he was practicing screams at home (Kikuchi laughed about what his neighbours must've thought)... This only made him more moe in my eyes.
I can't imagine Ao with any other voice. I'm waiting for more roles for Yutaro. Unfortunately, the roles he got before AO are all before his voice broke, and his voice wasn't that moe then. Gotta see "Nerawareta Gakuen", I guess.

So this is our Ao! I think he is doing a great job as Ao, way to go! But I also agree with people who said he need to improve the way he scream/yell. Somehow I think he can do better than that.
Also surprised @Spicynoodle to mention Shinji O.o, I also thinking about him when hearing Ao screaming, lol!

Now listenning to his Yango's voice, I realize that his voice really changed! Well, it was 4 years ago.... Aww, his voice was so cute! And it's still cute!
But yeah, his scream as Ao is a bit too forced, don't mind, don't mind, he'll improve! :D

Every time he yells in Eureka Seven AO, it throws me off the show. Unless he improves, I don't think I'll be glad that BONES casted him as Ao...
Otherwise, he did well in Bounen no Xamdou
