She debuted in 2008 with the Mana-produced single "Still Doll" which is the ED for an anime; Vampire Knight

Wakeshima has played the cello since she was three years old and began playing in string ensembles in middle school. By the age of fifteen she had participated in a number of joint concerts and classical music performances. She began to write her own music towards the end of middle school and performed as a vocalist for the first time in senior high school.

She attended an audition at Sony Music Entertainment and passed, signing a deal with Sony's DefSTAR Records.

Wakeshima has cited musical artists such as Jacqueline du Pré, Emilie Simon, Claude Debussy and Erik Satie as musical influences and favourite artists. Her producer Mana described "Still Doll" as "ambient, French and electronica" in his blog.

She originally played the cello in classical ensembles, beginning in the baroque section of a classical concert at fifteen, and began to perform as a singer-cellist at the age of sixteen.

Wakeshima has stated that she had not originally planned to use the cello as an accompaniment but decided to when she recorded her demo tape, after experimenting with the piano. She originally recorded vocal and cello parts separately and layered them, but later learned to play and sing simultaneously.

I like all the songs of Kanon Wakeshima that I downloaded. I love her voice and everything about her. Hope she become a voice actress in the future as well because I like it when she voiced the maid in VK anime ^^

I was lucky enough to be at her concert at Otakon. I had to wait in line for two and a half hours, but I managed to be only 6 rows from the front and it was so worth it. She gave a truly beautiful performance. I consider myself lucky and blessed. I just wish I could have met her and got her autograph. People were getting up before her last song was over to get in line to see her which I thought was rude so I didn't get up on principle. By the time she had actually finished, the line was so long that it would have taken forever to get through.
But she is an adorably sweet person. It was a pleasure to see her.
