Hitoshi Ashinano (芦奈野ひとし, Ashinano Hitoshi, born April 25, 1963) is a Japanese manga artist. He is most noted for Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō, for which he won Afternoon magazine's Four Seasons Award for debut works and the 2007 Seiun Award for Best Science Fiction Manga. Another notable work is Position. He has also been known to create dōjinshi under the name "suke". Prior to his debut, Ashinano worked as an assistant to manga artist Kōsuke Fujishima.

His work also usually has a rather laid-back, nostalgic feel with undertones of mystery; there are frequent stretches with little or no dialogue.

I could never sum up how much this man's works mean to me.

It's like God speaking to us through this man's hands, seriously. Excellent mangaka.

His eyes are positively glowing in this one. Thanks for the contribution ZinnKid.

wow, he's a lot younger looking than what his birthdate suggests. Anyway, I hope you make manga for a long time, Ashinano!

I uploaded a picture of him accepting his Seiun Award for "Best Science Fiction Manga" at Nippon 2007.

There was a thread in the old YKK Translations forums but the site's gone missing again so here's Google's cache version instead. The pics seem to be part of the official site for the OAVs.

Sidenote:
Some sources claim that Ashinano Hitoshi is actually just another pen name of his since doing a google search for "芦奈野" shows nobody else with that surname.

I have never seen a picture of Ashinano. I have attempted to find one, but it seems that the picture will remain blank.
