According to the Twitter Japan official account, the "Balus!" tweet frenzy by audience members in Japan watching the rerun of the Ghibli anime film "Castle in the Sky" on NTV again set the new Twitter world record of the highest number of tweets per second (TPS). At a gasping 143,199 TPS, the record was made at 11:21:50pm JST on August 2nd when the anime reached the scene where the two lead characters, Sheeta and Pazu, chanted the spell "Balse" to destroy the flying castle Laputa. The practice has been going on for every rerun of the film since 2009. It set a world record back on December 9, 2011 with 25,088 TPS, though later it was superseded by other occasions. Before the film rerun on August 2nd, the record, at 33,388 TPS, was held by the tweeting of the new year congratulation message "AkeOme" in Japan as midnight struck on January 1st this year.

Interestingly enough, Twitter has buffed up their servers since the previous Laputa world record in 2011. The Japanese were really trying to down the servers again from the sheer amount of "バルス" tweets this year... but 143k+ TPS wasn't enough this time, haha.

Can we have the link to that tweet?
It is in my first post in this thread. Check the link I provided as "Source". If you mean the actual "Balus" tweet then there are hundreds of thousands of them. You should just search for バルス in Twitter to find some of those tweets made at that night.

Dang, that's impressive. I wish America would have reruns like this all the time.

And twitter recorded and updated 143,199 TPS + Many Many more. Now that what you call servers. Here we're sitting in the line for groceries, i mean stats updates.
