I'm hoping it would air by the end of 2013, but with the author going hiatus and all, my hopes are starting to go down the drain... ;_; Guess I'll have to wait another year till my Saki days come back

I'm thinking it'll just cover the training camp and the quarters.
Then a 3rd season for the semi's, then a 4th season for the finals. Or the might combine those in a 2-cour 3rd season. Something along those lines.

I doubt the semi's would have been done before 2014 even if she hadn't gone hiatus. With only ~18-20 chapters per year.

I hope this air in 2014.. I'm huge fan of Saki and I dont think quarterfinals only will be enough.. they should animate both quarter&semi..

side B's quarterfinals are the weakest in the series imo
semifinal looks promising though

LOL. It has been like 3 years since huh? Kyoutarou is blond haired, middle school friend of Saki's who sucks at mahjong. Maybe this'll jog your memory?
Smiley face meant I was being sarcastic. He's a decent enough guy, but the most amusing thing about him is watching him be brushed aside in the few scenes he gets.

Being the buttmonkey/Kyoutarou is suffering.

Who? ;-) I still don't remember. He's been purged from my memory.

no boy appears -- perhaps you should bear this in mind)

That's not quite true. There's Kyoutarou, Hagiyoshi, the guy who does the announcements... and a few other nameless opponents of Kyoutarou's shown briefly in the individuals, and Nanpo-pro, and the guys in the cafe. And the fathers of both Saki and Nodoka. And the student congress vice president.
Compared to Achiga-hen, the main series is teeming with male characters.
Actually I should have said no guy appears much more than an extra ... But then I would admit that all the guys in the show are effectively gone in my memory. The girls and their interactions are so impressive that I can hardly remember those guys....

I guess the same will happen to me when I recall the show Girls und Panzer....

Kyoutarou's only purpose is to supply taco's to tacololi.

Besides what jmal said (which I agree fully), one thing to bear in mind is that it is not really about mahjong and most probably you won't learn much about the game in the anime. The mahjong match is like close combat fighting on the line of Dragonball or Bleach, only that it is done by an all-girl cast (no boy appears -- perhaps you should bear this in mind). This over-the-top presentation of mahjong games, combined with the intriguing interactions of the characters (which are like Strike Witches in case that can give you some hint), all done at a very good technical standard, is what I would say the main attraction of SAKI.

For me, interesting character development, a strong (and overpowered), unrefined MC since the beginning of the anime, mesmerizing gameplay.. just something for mahjong fans or people interested in eastern games.. like Chihayafuru with Karuta

You think Nodoka is big? Wait until you see Kasumi...

I don't get it, sequel or prequel? It says prequel as the relation, it says sequel in the synopsis.
It is the sequel to Saki. "Prequel: Saki" indicates that it's (Saki: Zenkoku-hen's) prequel is Saki.

If it's 12 episodes then it won't cover the semi-finals.

And Achiga-hen info is here: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=510213
